people kill people..

discus.

my 2 cents is i say we have gun laws but in the end of the day i believe good law abiding people should be able to have and carry a gun.

Completely agree. Stupid people kill other people. (usually with dumb reason like oweing 200 bucks for some yay)

would you not agree that criminals would get the gun with or with out insanely strict laws?

i personally feel safer in places that dont have "this is a gun free zone" because a criminal is not going to obey this sign, whereas some law abiding American (with a gun) will.

i think those signs are the biggest joke ever, what do they think will happen, the criminal will pull up to that shop(whatever) and be, "o this is a gun free zone, i guess we cant go in here and shoot people and rob the place"

i like that you have 20 posts, and you are trying to spark intelligent discussion.

i think that guns are a constitutionally protected right. like it or not, they are secured in the constitution, so i believe they need to be legal. as far as gun control, i would love to see stricter rules.

thats the thing, having more guns will not make you safer, taking them away makes me feel safer. remember that a gun make a person's dick grow, no matter how good the person's intentions may be.

Seriously, I went to Minnisoda(sp?) and I saw the no gun zone and I was scared shittless, the thought of someone carrying a gun scared me...no matter how the people were nice. Then again, carrying handguns is illegal in canada.

I dont wanna argue this, its a never ending battle so ill end it here.

guns should be legal, it is a constitutional right. if somebody wants to kill you bad enough they'll find a way, with or without a gun. personally if somebody wanted to kill me id rather they shoot me and put me down quick then stab me 5 or 10 times

word, i feel safer knowing that when im setting in a retaraunt eating, there could be somone setting a few tables over who has a gun, (if they have gone through the proper background checks, training, ect)

plus if i was a criminal i would think twice about pulling a gun on a crowd of people knowing that someone in that crowd was carrying a gun.

mega props on that dude, studding our country's history has been one of the most rewarding subjects i have ever studied.. our founding fathers were some of the most brilliant men ever to walk the earth..

when you are in your house and someone tries to rob you and they have a gun and you have a knife you will understand why you wish guns were still legal.

"The beauty of the

second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take

it." -Thomas Jefferson

i am currently doing a report on Thomas Jefferson, like no one he was not perfect, but some of his ideas are so relevant to todays society it is amazing.

back when we drafted the "right to bear arms" it was done so as a way of pretecting the peoples from an opressive government. The people could have a gun so they could stand up against tyranny.

Today it's no longer enough for me to have just a 9mm, or a flint-lock musket, If i want protection from a tyrannical government i need a missile silo, with a nuclear missile and the capability to target and strike any target i want.

Defend my possition gun lovers.

can you define your "position" better, if i choose to take on your stance, i need to know exactly what you believe.

haha i dont want to be told, "stop putting words into my mouth"

i did not want to get into this discussion but no matter what your belief is on our constitutional right to bear arms, you have to agree that this is an extremely stupid fuckin comment.

agreed. guns are a bad thing when they get in the wrong hands. i've grown up with guns in the house but i would never DREAM of touching one. i have friends with concealed weapons licenses and i don't think its a bad thing at all.

I don't really think we should have any restrictions on gun ownership.  If you make it hard to get guns or ban assualt weapons or whatever, the only people who will have them are criminals and the government, so the criminals can take all our money and the government can take all our rights. "Gun Free Zones" are stupid too, because then if someone brings a gun onto a college campus or something, they know no one else will have one, and they can shoot a hell of a lot of people before the cops get there.

that the right to bear arms is based on protecting citizens from a military/government power that could use gun laws to prevent citizens from uprising. In otherwords the founding fathers wanted to make sure that we would always be able to have a revolutionary war against the government if it becomes too opressive.

since this is what the right to bear arms is about, i think that citizens should get with the times and invest in modern military weapons, ie. nuclear missiles, chemical gas, and all the other fun toys our military loves to play with in other peoples countries.

i understand this is quite an absurd notion, but it is an entertaining hypothetical situation.

by all means take this possition and expand on it to make it as rediculous as possible, if you accidentally put words in my mouth, i'll let you know, but really i'd just be happy to entertain this idea for a little bit, see if it gets anywhere

Have you ever thought that maybe your constitution is to blame for the situation? Have you ever looked at other countries, and wondered how come 350 people don't get shot dead every day in them, but in the US they do? Maybe if it weren't for the US constitution, the gun laws would long ago have been changed, and you would have the same situation as those other countries with more restrictive gun laws. But you just have to hold on to the constitution. Why is that? I mean, the times were different when the constitution was written. I don't think anyone is going to up against the government in arms because they feel oppressed by them. I know it's never actually going to happen, but wouldn't it be time to change the constitution already? It just isn't pragmatic or applicable to modern life anymore. Let's think about Europe for example. They are making a constant effort to become more and more peaceful and united, and their gun laws are very restricted. Let's assume that in a 100 years or so, Europe will have no guns on the streets, and others will have followed their example. Except USA, who are still running around with their guns, shooting each other like the wild wild west because their precious second amendment says so. USA will be seen as a barbarian, backward country. Of course it already is, but even more so.

I know this is just wishful thinking, but it really would be high time the second amendment be changed. I also know I'm going to get killed saying this, so let it rip...

just make guns cost 1.5 million dollars and then bullets are 2 million a pop so only a select few could buy them and why waste 2 million to kill somebody. plus it usually takes a few shots

Fuck all of you, when the Russians come down through Canada and the Cubans from Mexico Im gonna have my trusty carbine at my side ready to start pegging reds.

You can pry my gun from my cold dead fingers

NS Sarcasm: 9.5/10

If you understand grammer and comma use at the time the constitution was written, it is very very clear that

"a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed"

is clearly an individual's right, not a collective right.

The being said I am very happy with where I live. I am not sure if most of you are aware of the incredibly unconstitutional "DC gun ban" that has been appealed to the supreme court, but the attorney general of my state released a statement saying that if for some reason the court rules against the second amendment this new law will be "violating the state of Montana's agreement in entering the Union."

washington dc 1976 gun ban takes effect the prior year 135 deaths were involving handguns. 2006 gun ban still in effect 145 deaths were involving handguns, before the ban and during the amount killed by guns is about the same.

agreed, you beat me to some of these stats.... if you take the guns out of the hands of law abiding people, that is all you are doing, because a criminal is not going to hesitate to own a gun...

baahahaahahahaha.....

there is no personal responsibility in America, if you didnt already know that you will learn it soon enough, it really is sickening..

you are right, but why do we need to facilitate stupid people killing people by keeping handguns legal? You don't need a handgun to hunt, all you need yo 9 fo' is to shoot otha muthafuckas and kill they ass. You have every right to have a gun for hunting, but one to used strictly to kill others is unnecessary and makes killing very easy.

so you would have it that only criminals and cops could carry a gun?

just because a gun is illegal, doesnt mean that criminals will not have them..

Whoa there cowboy! Take it easy on the mustache!

I think guns shouldn't be allowed within city limits. There is know reason that a 22-year-old, Seattlite needs to stomp around the city strapped. If he wants to go hunting with his Dad he should be able to go to a gun depository/storage facility outside city limits to get his gun and go hunt, and bring it back when he's done.
Just a thought.

oh come on now - everyone knows that criminals wouldn't have guns if they were illegal. I mean, drugs are illegal and our country is obviously drug free....alcohol was illegal during prohibition and no one ever drank....if we take away the right to own firearms it will solve all of our problems!

People still haven't addressed this issue though. Criminals will get guns regardless. That's why there are automatic weapons on the streets. They are incredibly illegal, but people still have them. They will get them no matter what.

So what if a criminal comes after you, or breaks into your house, and you can't have a gun because of gun control? Now, saying this, my family doesn't own any guns. I probably will purchase one when I own a house though. Why am I purchasing a handgun? To kill or injure someone, damn right I am. But I'm doing it in the protection of myself and my family, which is the difference. I feel much less safe with the fact that no one has guns, and yet criminals can still get them.

why does the thought of someone carrying a gun scare you?

if you ponder the "No guns zones" they are really "free crime zones".... if i was a criminal i would think twice if i had look around at the people beside me and think, "i wonder if he is packing"

now im not saying we should all walk down main street with a 6 shooter on our hips, but gun laws have gotten way out of hand...

sorry for the post whoring, but this is a subject i feel very passionately about

The thing that the majority of you don't understand about handguns is under what circumstances you can legally use them on another human being. You can only use them if someone poses serious bodily harm to another, and you cannot fire upon the person after the fact or when they are fleeing. In some states it is legal to shot someone that has invaded your home, but you should give them full warning that you will shot them if you have to.

In principle, the Second Amendment makes many of the other amendments possible. It demonstrates that the people have not and will not surrender all control and protection to the government. Americans have the choice to defend themselves when necessary. An armed society is a polite society.

Its also absurd to think that gun bans will have any effect on crime. The majority of firearms used in gun related felonies are either illegal or stolen. This is firstly because its much harder to trace a stolen gun back to an individual, second because there is no other way to obtain a gun if you have a record of felonies.

Brilliant! Then I'll just walk around Seattle armed and rob everyone and they won't be able to defend themselves!

Have you ever gotten mugged or the shit kicked out of you by randoms? Have you ever dialed 911 and seen the response time? I've gotten jumped twice in California where it's damn near impossible to get a concealed carry permit. Felt pretty helpless.

But back home in Washington I go to work now everyday and don't have time to spend 10 hours a day in the gym getting all Vin Diesel. And coming from a military family and having grown up around firearms and having taken firearms self-defense courses.....I am prepared for when something goes bump in the night. Or if I do wander amongst Seattlites. Just a thought.

Being from Canada, I dont have an extensive knowledge of gun laws in the States.

But after reading this whole thread, I only had one thing on my mind.

I would be TERRIFIED of being at a bar and standing up to a loud-mouth/douchebag only to discover he has a concealed gun on him. Like someone said, guns make a person's dick grow and it would be pretty not cool to argue with a low self-esteem drunk guy wielding a gun.

Again, you have no idea how it works here. Most people that legaly and responcebly carry fireams never do anything illegal with them. And 99.9999999999% of the people that cary a conceled weapon are not going to brag that they have one because it defeats the perpose entirely. It is also a felony to threaten or intimidate anyone with your gun.
