When I was getting my .40 I went to a couple different gun shops. The first was a pawn shop where the owners were super chill and ended up showing us a bunch of cool historic guns like M1 Grands and Springfields - after we looked at the pistols we were intrested in. The second was super weird and had a bunch of Nazi helmets and old Nazi guns, the guys working were also weird asf and seemed like they didnt wanna talk to us. Went back to the pawn shop the next day and bought a shiny new .40 which I now rarely even touch. Gun people at the end of the day are people just like the rest of us some of them are cool some of them suck.
