This years gumball has been cancelled after the death of a civilian and his wife

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/04/a-matter-of-time-one-killed-one-injured-gumball-cancelled/

The two britons involved in the crash apparently fled the scene of the accident and were arrested on the border. The details seem to remain sketchy, but if that is the whole story thats pretty cold to get it a huge accident and just bail.

Also here is a gallery of the start from London:

the rally is a joke, its just an excuse for rich celebrities to drive there expensive cars and get publicity.

Dude you have no idea! It's all about the party's and showing of your ride ofcourse haha. Hell, just the part at the playboy mansion is a good excuse to spend $35000 entrance money

gumball is anywhere...every year they change the course...it was from ny - la in like 2000...the movie "cannonball run" from the 80's inspired the rally. in recent years though its been in europe just touring different parts every year.

Yeah, going constant speeds of 130mph, passing people on the wrong side of the road, passing people on the shoulder, sleepless nights and seeing the world is a joke.

Racing is for closed courses, and being rich does not mean you have a right to buy a powerful car and make someone else's hometown your personal racetrack. I am surprised no bystanders have ever been killed in a gumball before (have they?) but I hope it gets shut down for good.

The idea is really cool, but he has a point. Just because you have money, that doesn't put you above everyone else to do what you want. Think of the families and friends that are going to suffer from this loss. They had two people taken from them because these guys wanted a cheap thrill essentially. The reason the HQ isn't responding well is because they know they fucked up big time. Honestly, I think the whole concept of this race is sick I mean drive by day and party by night while touring countries. It's really cool but it's not worth the risk they bestow on innocent people.

but if you think about it, anyone can do this. this rally just happens to be a huge event and everything. you cant just point fingers at the rich because their the ones that are being recorded.

Yes, anyone can do this. Even I could drive my car at high speed through residential neighborhoods, putting the lives of innocent bystanders in danger. Maybe I could get drunk while I was doing it, too. Maybe smoke a little rock. Who cares if I hit a few kids?

How old are you? Do you understand that just because you can do something doesn't mean it's ok to do? I don't care if people get irresponsible with their own lives (self-destructive) but as soon as you start putting other people in danger you cross a line.

I will point fingers at the rich assholes that compete in these things. The ability to go out and purchase a fast car does not give you the ability to drive it. That being said, roads held on public races, including street racing, is stupid shit. You're endangering other people's lives, no matter how good of a driver you are. Do that shit on a racetrack.

Yeah but they are the only ones that have done it with such large numbers. It was the rich guys who wanted to have a good time, and no one else so you have to point your fingers at them. I'm not saying every rich dude, I'm just saying the ones who thought that this was a great idea.

there are alot of these rally's around, even in America. you have the cannon ball run, Bullrun, Gumball, the list goes on and one. personally I think it would be awsome to do it and my favorite team is team Polizi.

You see though, in today's times the Gumball actually has gotten alot safer, back in the 80's the current record was set for crosing America (Newyork to LA) it was 32hours 7 min, basically they took ferrari's added extra fuel tanks and a radar detector and just went. I would have to say that the current itteration of Gumball and other road rally's like it are much safer now.

It's not actually a race. It's a rally. And that is very important from a legal point of view. Not to say they haven't had their problems. Germany and Turkey won't let them in, and they had big problems in Latvia a couple years back. Although some countries love it, Crotia comes to mind, they gave them police escorts. People do it in camper vans, H2s, even a citroen 2CV (top speed of 62mph). People drive fast cause they want to, but its not a necessity. And they do get shitloads of tickets, or cars impounded, or arrested. That being said, it still is very dangerous (a guy "named" Torquenstein crash his viper at 160mph a couple years ago in Morroco, luckily he survived) but it doesn't have to be. Its a shame a couple bad apples have to ruin it for everyone else. Max Cooper does have to do a little more to keep his people under a little more control.

And I'm sure it will continue. They'll just change the venue. They'll stick to eastern europe and asia where money will grease the wheels of the legal system.

i cant even put into words how little I value your opinion.

your a mark, a true mark.

if you were smokin rock and drinking, even being able to start the car would be a challenge.

just shut the fuck up

You really think so? I have never smoked rock but I have driven my car while very very wasted and starting it was the fucking least of my problems. Have you had trouble with it? Maybe that's because you're a fucking retard.

If you want to disagree with me then you should actually tell me why my opinion is wrong. I don't think you can, partially because I'm right and partially because you're probably a complete fucking moron.

I guess not everyone is smart enough to understand what's wrong with putting people's lives in danger just because you want to drive super fast in your expensive car.

So uh does that prove my point? If anything unexpected had happened in that video, both those cars would have had nowhere to go and probably would have killed someone.

I think the gumball would be much better if every team had to use the same slow, shitty car. Maybe like a VW polo or something. This would put the emphasis more on finding the best route to the finish, and not on driving at literally twice or three times the limit.

maaaan there are some nice cars in there. i really wanna try driving a stupidly fast car some day. fastest car ive driven is a 4cyl 85 tercel...so yea lol

i guess the driver was too busy checkin himself out in the rearview mirror to notice the peasants using his road.

that would require me caring whether or not you agree with me

if you think your dumbass driving drunk is less dangerous then a sober person driving a super high performance machine at 130 or so, THEN YOUR A FUCKIN RETARD.

just look at how many hundred more people are killed every year from stupid ass drunk drivers like you, than from high speed crashes.

you really made an ass of yourself for me, i just had to highlight.

you may be smart enough to know that you dont know how to drive fast responsibly, but you are certainly fuckin stupid enough to think a .2 BAC doesn't need to hinder you from getting where you want to be.

montana most likley would have created a speed limit for any other reason than Federal grant money being withheld if they thought drving at over 100 mph on the freeway was inherently dangerous

Ever gone 120 in a BMW? you're NOT out of control

enough reasons jackass?

hahahahahaa

Once again, you didn't actually reply to my post. I

can't tell if you're just a complete retard or if you're doing it on

purpose, and only half-retarded, and you think you're going to

rage me out.

Did I say I thought it was OK to drive drunk? I think

we've all done things we regret... but maybe you should pay more

attention in school because I think your reading comprehension skills

are a little lacking. Nowhere did I compare that to the Gumball. Can

you see why I did say it? Extra credit points if you can.

If

you are comparing Montana roads to European roads, that shows you don't

understand the question at all. Have you ever driven in Europe? I don't

think you have. It is a fundamentally different experience. And do you really think cars are just as safe at 130 as they are at 60? If you do, you're a fucking retard, for a number of reasons. But we already knew that...

Once

again, I already answered this question. If you are too damn stupid

to understand my posts then I don't know what to tell you, but you are

0 for 2 and I am starting to get worried... Everyone else seemed to

understand them.

Hitting something with 120 on the higway (some tire, rock or anything...) will cause a serious accident!!! If you are in a volvo, bmw or a freaking lada....

i made it to 140 in mine. granted, if it was not in a perfectly straight line in Southpark, I would have been out of control....
