Gumball 3000 Cancelled after Civilian Death

was the jackass crew in gumball one time? because i remember seeing an old episode where they had to go through a bunch of countries

hahahaha you want some too, buddy?

Do you think it's good to drive 3 times the speed limit on open roads with traffic? Are you defending these guys that killed two people then ran?

You stupid little cunts seem to have no idea how dangerous cars are (especially with retards like you guys behind the wheel). You strike me as the kind of kids who get a nice car at 16 from mommy and daddy, crash it going 90 through a residential neighborhood, and get another just like that. If you don't have the history for it, you certainly have the mentality for it.

Just go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong about the gumball. Do it.

yeah but then they'd drive the shitty cars to hell and have even more of a likelyhood of losing control and hurting someone etc.

all in all, i think the gumball is tite as hell and those who disagree w/ it go blab somewhere else that can hurt people.

the last couple of gumballs have actually been over multiple continents.

london to eastern europe somewhere, hop on super expensive transport planes with cars, drive around thailand for a bit, hop back on planes, then drive around in the desert in america for a bit and end up at the playboy mansion.

and i think its £50,000 a head minimum to enter. my ex-girlfriends dads best friend was going to do it last year.

The Gumball 3000 is a cool thing. It also is very dangerous because of the speeds those guys go.

your wrong about the gumball because most people who are used to driving nice fast cars can safley drive over the speed limit (not saying 3 times the speed limit all the time) withought endangering other people. Your wrong about the gumball because for the most part, people keep it quite reasonable. I know this because no one has been killed until now. Your wrong about the gumball because those people in that Porsche would have done something just as stupid, gumball or not. And again, your wrong about the gumball because most people with half a whit and some driving expeirance under their belt can drive decently over the speed limit withought endangering other people, given the right situations as long as they are smart about it.

you know those signs that say how fast your supposed to go on a turn? they are for school busses full of children...

youre such a hater, you dont know shit about it.. they make frequent stops on their own terms (some for speeding tickets), and they drive fast on safer roads most of the time..

its a half assed race and nobody tries to win

ignorant, tell me one fact you know about it that wasn't posted on this website.. tell me one thing! you just read a small uninformed post and you automatically know all about it.

and dont cheat!

who the fuck cares if he knows how many miles it is or not. The basic fact is that it is not legit to hold a race on public roads and endanger law abiding citizens.

Again, I really fail to see how that works. Apparently, just having money gives you some degree of driving skill. Bullshit. Just because you have the money to buy a plane doesnt mean you should try to fly one without experience.

The cars these guys use are fast. Sure, they were built to go fast. But the error lies in the drivers. The fact that the Gumball is officially a rally and not a race doesnt stop people from reaching excessive and unsafe speeds on public roads.

By the way, did you even read the details of the accident that shut down this years?

"On May 2, a traffic accident occurred near the town of Struga, Republic of Macedonia. The Techart Porsche 911 Turbo of Nick Morley and Matthew McConville hit an oncoming Volkswagen Golf

(Some reports contend a speed of 200 km/h or more, whilst others doubt

such a speed would be practical given the poor road condition[15]). According to media reports, they tried to escape the country afterwards in a BMW M6 with Russian car number plates

via the nearby border post. However, they were stopped and arrested by

the police, and will be held in custody until their trial has begun."

They tried to dodge the country after killing two people in an accident they caused. If that doesnt speak to the arrogance and idiocy of the people that participate in this rally, I dont know what does.

Yes, I love cars. Yes, I love going fast. Yes, I religiously follow Top Gear and salivate when I hear the rumble of a Ferrari at 4000 revs. But still, this is a race on public roads that anyone can enter, regaurdless of driving skill. Its cool to take your car out on a track and fuck around with it, but this is endangering the lives of people driving their families to school. Not cool.

Oh, and my source for that was Wikipedia, which has even more sources about the accident should you be interested.

man dude you need to chill out and quit being a parent...and im not trying to be an ass or start an arguement.

but actually if you are driving a high performance care like a ferrari, porsche, high end bmw etc. they handle MUCH better at higher speeds. yes it is more dangerous to drive at 130mph than 60mph but you can control the car much better

it was stupid for those idiots to do that, and it pisses me off that they ran and couldnt face what they did seem like rich pussies if you ask me but oh well...

idk thats all i have to say for now

of corse i read that. but I dont think you can speek for nearly all the participants in the gumball based on 2 jackasses. have you even seen the documentry DVD or the endless amounts of footage on the internet? most people are atleast somewhat reasonable. anyone can speed. I bet I can get a geo metro to do 90mph. Im not saying because they are ritch they have more of a right to drive fast. I am saying that anyone who is a decent driver and not a dumbass can speed a decent amount on public roads and still be safe. I am also saying that the gumball participants who killed those two people and tried to run would have done something just as stupid sooner or later, if the gumball existed or not. I am also saying that I know for a fact that most gumball participants are fairly reasonable and decent drivers because this is the first real bad accident with civilians in gumball history. now one might think that if its just a bunch of pricks driving extremly unsafely that something may have happened a little sooner.

Of course not. The Gumball would be a great event if they were stricter about it being more of a rally rather than a race. But people treat it like a open race on public roads, which isnt cool. There's not much to stop some rich asshole from going out and run down pedestrians in his brand new DB9, but at least there isnt a organization that provides a venue for him.

Back that up!

you really don't get it do you? The law in most any country is one thing which will stop someone from doing such a thing...

Again I ask; have you seen the Documentry titled "Gumball 3000, 6 days in May"??? If not shut the fuck up. And I will say this again:

I know withought a doubt it is not a reckless or dangerous as you say the gumball is, because if it was, something as bad as the OP of this thread mentions would have happened much sooner.

GOD DAMN.

hahaha I can't believe you guys are still going on about this...

I was going to write a big long post, but I realized this comes down to some simple facts:

1) The faster you drive, the more likely you are to crash. This is a physical fact related to the capabilities of the car and the surroundings, and not so much to driver skill. ABS is better than the best cadence braking, and a car can only stop or turn as fast as is physically allowed. I challenge you to tell me I'm wrong about this.

2) I'm not sure how many of you have driven in europe (I can guess), but I have a fair number of miles under my belt there and I can tell you that their roads are very different. In some places driving well over 100 mph is perfectly safe, and in others 25 mph is going to be way too fast. I don't think any of you understand this. In the states, the speed limits are way too conservative and many roads that are marked 30 mph could be taken at 70 without much additional risk.

3) A lot of gumball drivers are careful, yes, but one bad apple can ruin it for the whole bunch and once people start getting killed, it's time for a change.

I am sure all you guys think you are great drivers and you floor it on the interstate and race people from stoplights, but when it comes down to it, not you or anyone else can defy the laws of physics, so it is necessary to exercise judgment before getting into these situations. A few gumball drivers do not (a lot do, which is great), and there have been quite a few accidents. Not surprisingly, most of them involved exotics (I guess having a fast car doesn't mean you can't crash, huh?), but, surprisingly, this is the first fatality.

You guys seem to think gumball drivers obey the rules of the road, so here's a quote from wikipedia:

Upon arrival in Holland, On April 29, the Dutch police awaited the participants with 14 police cars and 7 unmarked cars. Seven pilots including rapper Xzibit lost their driver's licence for speeding with over 50 km/h more than allowed and two cars were confiscated. The Dutch government has forbidden streetraces by law, although rallies that are performed within the law (i.e. participating in a rally without a competitive element) are not forbidden.[11][2] The next day, the German police stopped about 70 cars for speeding violations; they were escorted off to the airport.

It sounds like they do a lot of speeding, doesn't it?

The gumball needs rules. There needs to be some control over how fast people drive on public roads. If anyone doesn't realize this, then you're a dumb shit and I hope you die when the hideous euro-ricer you probably drive suddenly bursts into flames while you're street racing through a school zone.

Cunts. I feel like a fucking driver's ed instructor... do you guys even drive? I saw one guy a few posts back who definitely looked like he was in 7th grade hahaha

OK, to clarify why this accident happened and get you guys the facts outside of a controversy biased media..

the crash happened because the driver was attempting to pass a car, and there he drove on the left side (as opposed to the right side where we drive here) and the drivers seat in his car was on the left side. in order for this dude to pass a car, he needs someone in the passengers seat to see if it is safe to pass, but he didn't have a passenger. (try to imagine this). there was also a big truck which he couldn't see past so he was basically blind for trying to do a pass.

SO, the accident happened because of the stupidity of not driving with anyone (which most people do in the gumball). Not speed, not dangerous driving, this was the circumstance (obviously wasn't speeding because the person in front of them was trying to be passed)

What you have to say is overall reasonable I do suppose. A few things though:

50kmph is what maybe 30 mph. Sure thats speeding, but I'm willing to bet that in most situations the driver at that point is still staying in the safe laws of phisics and so on. I don't think there is any way you or I can tell if they were or weren't being safe in that situation in the Netherlands because we have not seen the spicific road in that spicific time of day with that spicific amount of traffic on it.

I am not by any means trying to argue that Gumball drivers stay within the laws of each country, I know that probably most do not. I am argueing that Most Gumball drivers keep things realitivly safe for civilians, if not themselves...

I will say that I have not driven in Europe, but I would think that it would usually be pretty clear when it is safe to drive 100 mph + and when it is barely safe to drive 25 mph. The Gumball has suggested routes. They seem to drive on bigger highways, or atleast try to keep it that way.

Your right, the faster you drive, the less safe your are (for the most part, there are irrelivent arguements to this situation which may to an extent proove otherwise). But I have driven 100 MPH through Southpark in Colorado and felt perfectly safe. I would say that you can see all of what is going on for 4+ miles in southpark, and it is perfectly straight...

Exotics are harder/take more driver skill to drive.

You guys really should see the documentry movie about the gumball. The guy who "winns" is a pretty reasonable driver, he just stays ahead of the pack. He tried to make it to 250 kph (160 mph), but you could see the road and there were no cars going the same direction as he was and the road was very long and straight. The car that got in the most carnage was a Viper, a car with power but not much handleing. Thats not to say there weren't plenty of ferraries and so on that got fucked up pretty good, but some people are better drivers then others, and overall, I think that gumball participants are better then a decent amout of other drivers. I mean you would think it would sort of go along with wanting to sit in a car for hours on end.

Lastly, the people who drive recklessley in the gumball, probably endanger themselves and other people outside of the gumball as well.

hes still a dumbass. If he wouldnt have passed, and thus if he were driving at a slower speed, he would not have had his crash.

When you drive on the "wrong side" you don't have any excuse for not checking to see if passing is safe. In europe if you are driving country to country, at some point you are going to end up on the "wrong side" but that's really no excuse for passing without checking for oncoming cars and I can't believe you think it is. In most situations, it is not hard to get a view from the wrong side of the car.

Basically what you did was highlight the fact that he made the worst possible choice... good going.

Bull Run in the states is pretty sweet. One of the guys in it just set a new world record driving from NY to LA in someting like 37 hrs in a Ferrari.

man, youre so stupid.. do you even drive??

if there is a big truck, and you speed up to pass them on narrow european roads, you need to be a fair distance into the other lane to actually see

Haha, oh man... trust me dude, I've driven with Squeaky in England in a right hand drive car. Quite an experience. Let it be known: Your ass is going down... but I'll let him do the honors.

Yeah because the fact that I drove a left-hand-drive car around england for a couple of weeks couldn't possibly mean that I know what I'm talking about here, could it?

In fact, I have passed trucks, caravans, vans, old people, and pretty much every other kind of slow traffic you can think of while driving a left-hand-drive car in england, which uses the right-hand-drive standard. So I guess I actually know exactly what I'm talking about, and you're a dumb cunt who's talking out of his ass. Good going, buddy.

People are presenting legitimate arguments for both sides here but you are not one of them. If that's the best you can come up with, then you might not want to be posting in this thread.
