Grouse

It's open now, and a lifty yesterday said it was because there was like a river going through it from the rain lol

well.

i have only been up seymour for the last month and let me tell you

the park is and has been utter shit. only one down rail is setup properly the other one is like neck high jumpon that drops away, grouse winning this one by a long shot. Im stuck with seymour though cause none of my friends have grouse passes

Hey Tom did you go up to Seymour today? No good? I was going to go this morning but I ended up napping instead. Wish I had a Grouse pass.

will be at seymour or grouse on the 26 or 27. grouse is free but seymour has better skiing ( i don't have park skis, fuck i hope we get some fresh). I guess seymour is free as well... where is everyone skiing nowadays?

What the fuck is going on?!? People are hating on Seymour's park? I haven't been up to Seymour yet this season but still I'm very confused.

The hater is WAAACCKKKK.

Seymour is killing it BEYOND belief. Mushroom park is dope, jibs and i timed it i did a lap from top, to bottom and back up again in 1 minute. that lat consisted of a corigated pipe jib, c rail, flat down bar and spine box.

Then mystery is mad legit, 25ish foot step down with steep landing and big knuckle, which carry's you with perfect speed to a 15 - 20 foot step up. Then over to lower mystery you can do a down corigated pipe or pipe stall, and then into the rail/box time. Down rail or down box. Yes the rail is high but i had no problem getting on after hitting the flat jib, and the box is normal street box. then the three line which is down box ( not high once again lip slided without a problem ) a high down barrel rail. That one drops like 4.5 feet off each side, enough to nut yourself. or a flat down box which i dont think is hittable being a skier.

And the cat was working on young guns and has the NEW neon orange rails in. Barrel rails, about 20 feet long. First is down, second is down, then a flat box, then a hip / landing? then another down rail. The rails are in but im not sure when the park will be opening.

In my opinion right now seymour is killing the blackcomb bluepark and grouse.

Now we need a HL park at seymour, that would be dope.

Yeah Seymour is killing it, the mushroom park has:
c rails both wayscorrugated pipe stall thinglittle up rail traffic barrier tap spine/hump boxdown flat rail, but kinda too low2 stall rails wallride on the sideperpendicular rail to the hill with no lip on
Mystery:
15+ foot table/stepdown10-15ish step up
Lower Mystery:
Upper left line: down corrugated pipe down rail
Upper right line: stall corrugated pipe with wedge to air/tap over the pipe down box
after those there is a setup with an option of a down box, handrail, or flat down box setup urban style
to oval wallride
and like someone said above, they're starting on the lodge park with neon orange rails which looks as it is going to be awesome

your description of mushroom park is hilarious. that corrugated pipe dug into the ground behind the c rail is totally epic dog!!! and that 5 foot up rail that is actually flat is sick!!!

cant blame seymour park staff for that though, apparently mushroom park sucks because the ski patrol looks after it.

i agree that young guns park is looking promising, but since it is not open we are left with good rails setup bad and bad rails dug into the ground. the jumps are ok.

I didnt say the down rail is high, its actually really low - like ankle high jump on that just drops away so you pretty much ride onto an urban rail that is 4 feet off the ground. the down rail before it is setup proper, its the only feature on the mountain im hyped on.

big ups to grouse for actually stepping it up this year, this is the first time in six years of riding in vancouver that the grouse park has been better than seymour.

its not bad. its just not good. im calling them out in hopes that andrew freaks out and gets their shit together.

Im sure lodge park will be really sick and seymour will be on top of it again, im just sick of going up there and having one good down rail to hike.

Good to hear some honesty, everyone seems to hype the crap out of Seymour on NS no matter how the parks are looking.

seymours park is sick right now those corrogateds in pit park are super fun, sqaure bar down rail is dope. the wallride at the bottom is sick. the stair feature, agreed, not too hyped on, rail needs to be changed. see what i can do when i get back from east coast

jump line is good too

that being said things will deffinitly be improving in the near future. we have a bunch of new features on the way up, already received 8 nike ones the other day and the new lrg feature which is gonna be dope should be there by now too.

as soon as we get the snow tyler the main park cat op, has got many ill snow features up his sleeve, but weve been literally loading snow from the parking lot into the lodge park to get that line going, snow is limited.

also seymour takes getting used too, dont expect everything to be setup standard ski style ever. the mountain is a snowboard mountain first, but can be skiid by anybody- gotta put your mind to it

mushroom- im over that right now too, but like you said that park is run by the instructors and is a kiddy park (isnt right now) but is meant to be. everythings getting organized right now and their should be plenty on the mountain to keep people happy given the snow situation---but more to come

but definitly beats grouse on personality alone-grouse is hurting

fuck: starbucks, does that wind turbine even spin?, tram rides packed with annoying commentary, snowmaking, crowded liftlines, and lights left on 24/7

but nike park is gettin in should be open by now, snow was just sugar and had to set up first before opening. lodge always ups the ante as laps are much faster then the admittedly slow mystery

merrychristmas

I am sorry for their being a Starbucks at the bottom of my home mountain, I, along with all other Grouse skiers definitely made the choice for that cafe to be put in place in that specific location.

Wind turbine is set to start spinning by January of 2011 I believe. The electrical wiring of something that large isn't going to happen overnight.

Tram rides, eh I'll agree with you there.

Snowmaking has allowed Grouse to get their main park open from top to bottom, so no complaints from me. In your post you even said you were pushing snow from the parking lot to get Lodge park together. Every mountain deals with lack of snow differently.

Crowded lift lines, I guess I'll agree with that. Not a fan but what can you do besides switch mountains?

Lights left on 24/7. I'm not sure why this happens but from what I've heard the government sees Grouse as a major tourist attraction and they foot the bill for that.

HAHAHAHA!
Andrew, it looks like we were right, that shit doesn't even spin. Grouse is going to give up on the wiring on that shit and it's going to be spun by a diesel generator ahahaha.

And Jas,
wiring on something like that wouldn't take any longer than it did to erect that eyesore. I find it very hard to believe that it will take until Jan '11 to start functioning. That just doesn't sit right with me. Grouse is fucked. Diesel powered wind turbines.

im bummed i never looked at lodge park thing until later today because a few of the new nike rails are in and daymn ther sick. for get that stair set up in that bottom park the new lodge park rails are waaaay sicker. go check them out 2 perfect down rails o a fun slippery box to hip to another down rail all set up perfectly thanks seymour merry christmas

not siding with seymour (or grouse for that matter) in this bashing of mountains but I gotta say I find it surprising that Grouse didn't want the turbine running for the olympics either, it'd be a great attraction fort the crazy amount of tourists that'll be rushing to Vancouver.
I'm sure the wiring isn't the only problem though, because as Zavier pointed out it doesn't take a year to get wiring for that kind of thing to be set up, and if Grouse had half the amount of brains as I think they do they would have done the wiring before or even during the production of the goddamn thing.

nike park kills it. jumps on seymour kept me happy all day.lower park corrigated pipes rocked, wall rocked, side hits plentiful, creative, amazing. does grouse have those?line ups kill it... on seymour, cuz they dont exist. cant believe this argument is still goin on.like i said before i ski both hills, grouse is whack. park is hurtin.

Holly crap, can't you guys shut up about grouse and Seymour. Why can't we all just have a good time skiing and be thankful that we even have a park.

not all of us have a Seymour pass, and not all of us have a Grouse. So hows this, lets just ski the mountain we have a pass for Ok?

this is what i was goin for, hyped

get back here fix the park and come shredding with me chris and matty. we all up here for the week !

i am new to vancouver, and i was curious to see whether grouse has many more features to add to the park till it is full?

is there more than one kicker and one hip in the Quicksilver park?

will that long fat rail from last yr make a comeback? (its the one in the top right corner of their park blog)

no the only jumps right now (as on 2 days ago when i was there) was the kicker and hip.The hips super icy but pretty fun, but the kicker is really wierd. The gap's really short but it's kinda lippy and hard to judge speed wise. Worth hitting but they should rebuild, make the gap bgger and the lip less steep. They have tons of fun rails though.

The jump is fine. I rarely ski jumps, but everyone I ride with says it's great. And it's not old school Grouse, Shaw is running the cat full time up there and he builds good jumps. If the lip was less steep that jump would be terrible.

Well last year they had a 5 jump line by the end of the season. So yes, they will be, they just need more snow.

yo cypress park is so sick now! so many creative features and so much snow making so they have soo many jumps and all the rails dont even have jumps they are just in the snow so that you have to build the jump yourself like it was actualy in the streets

Seymour is really sick right now with their lodge park setup, hopefully it expands and they put the wallride in the place it was 2 seasons ago with a proper setup eventually and they add some more features so you aren't waiting 30 minutes in a lift line to hit 4 rails.

go on a non holiday weekday

no one wants that old wallride setup apprently. everyone want streetstyle or some shit so dont know if itll happen,

i liked that old way tho too

So Grouse finally got the quik park switched up. Another jump has been added, no more stupid up/down box setup, and a rainbow rail that is siiick. Setup well for skiers to hit, and all snowboarders are loving it too. Pictures to come once the weather clears up.
