Greatest President Ever

Well with all the Bush bashing threads, I figured it'd be nice to have a change of pace and say who you think was the best president ever. I say Clinton because he was a pimp... and he helped out the national debt a lot. But mostly because he was a pimp.

reagan at lease in the 20th century

james madison, thomas jefferson, those guys were just badasses, all of the founding fathers.

really?...like really?

I wouldn't put him close to the top. You heard of something called Vietnam?

I'd have a hard time giving a number one, frankly I don't know enough about each president to accurately judge. But I'd say (in no particular order)

Dwight D. Eisenhower

FDR

Teddy Rosevelt

Abraham Lincoln

Thomas Jefferson

George Washington

haha the media coverage clinton gets for the rep he lived up to in office is dope.

family guy and simpsons episodes an all.

and robot chicken or whatever

funny shit.

Clinton made only one wrong move, he got caught. i know he got way more pussy in the white house than any of us even suspect, i mean he's a pretty normal guy, and most normal people like to have sex a few times a week, and absolutely no normal person would ever let their naked genitals within 50 feet of Hillary, so im guessing he probably got laid in the white house more than any other president so he's the biggest pimp, but abe lincoln was the most positively influential president.

FDR, hands down. that cripple knew what he was doing. and, he had the balls to do it. all the whiny congressman and senators tried to shut down his new deal, but now we look at it as one of the best pieces of legislation ever. think about it, he basically changed the country from its individualist mindset, and transformed it into the welfare state it is today. plus, all this was before the concept of welfare or governments providing anything for their people even existed. Billy C comes in close second for his skill with the ladies/budget balancing skillz.

FDR did a lot of sneaky shit. Dresden fire bombings, Japanese concentration camps, etc. He is nowhere near what I would call a "best" president.

Oh my god did you really say Dwight D Eisenhower?

Let's look at what old Dwight did during his presidency...

Overthrew Iranian elected prime minister Mossadegh, and implemented the Shah. This is EXACTLY why Iran hates us. Read about what the Shah did when he was in power and how we completely turned a cold shoulder to what was going on that we caused.

Overthrew the democratically elected president in Guatemala. Thus causing a corrupt country and one that is still corrupt for this reason today.

Influenced assassination of Congo president Lumumba.

Caused years of murder in Indonesia by interfering with politics and then abandoning it.

Added "under god" to the pledge of allegiance.

Overthrew Cambodian government to establish a US friendly one.

Passed the Smith act. Basically just an act that puts people in prison for having non-capitalist beliefs.

Started the COINTEL program in the FBI. Read about that.

Eisenhower and his affiliates are a huge reason we are a military country and why many countries are held down by us.

Thomas Jefferson, just wrote the single most important document in American history. Then probably Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy.

You have to understand how big communism affected the U.S. in the 50's, we wanted to stop it at all costs so he did what he thought was right.

No, he was responsible for innocent people being killed. You should read about the slaughters that happened in Indonesia directly related to Eisenhower.

What you're saying is the white slave owners are justified just because they thought they were right? Or Nazis killing Jews wasn't bad because they thought they were right? Come on keep the logic. I know exactly what the effect communism had on the US, but overthrowing countries is ridiculous.

Lincoln was one of our worst presidents by far, he never really abolished slavery, because the emancipation proclamation only applied to the north, and slaves in the south were not freed until the 14th amendment was passed, after Lincolns death. Also, for all the people who hate the patriot act and GW, you should study about the border states during the civil war and how Lincoln all but suspended the constitution. He is also one of the main reasons this country has such a centralized and large federal government.

As for FDR, his new deal didn't fix the depression, if you know you're history you'll know that in 1938 the US plunged right back into a depression, and thats after the New Deal was passed and implemented. He is also responsible for creating the socialist welfare state that the US is today.

Jefferson was this countries greatest president. Say what you want about him hating blacks, but if he really hated them so much why then was it in his will that all of his slaves be set free after his death? He doubled the size of this country and kept us out of a destructive war with France. His ideals on freedom and liberty were great and are sadly lost today.

not an atheist, a deist, but yes he did believe in the strong separation of church and state.

yeah, but he didnt have 8 years, so who knows... but he was definately doin Marilyn Monroe which is legendary... tough choice

CLinton was the best for the American Economy and yeah he got caught getting laid big deal. anyways his policies actually made the dollar go up and our national debt go down, if he could have run for a 3rd term i still bet he would win even with the monica lewinski thing

I'd like to know what "policies" of Clinton's made the economy go up.

Last I knew it was just the .com burst and there was a recession just a little before Clinton so...the economy was in his favor. A president really doesn't have a lot of effect on the economy.

Well that's one of the most retarded things i've heard/read in awhile. Congratulations.

First of all, you say slaves weren't freed until AFTER his death and the passing of 14th Amendment....When Johnson took over after Lincoln was assassinated, he carried out Lincoln's wishes in Reconstruction--and obviously freeing the slaves.

And you talk about suspending the constitution in the 1860's compared to the fucking Patriot Act in 2001? Our country was divided, and former citizens were killing eachother by the hundreds of thousands. NO SHIT the border state were compromised in their freedoms. To compare that to the Patriot Act right now has got to be one of the worst comparisons i've ever heard.

And also, just to plan in advance, dont call me some stupid shit who doesnt know anything. I got a 5 on the US AP Test, so don't claim I dont know anything about history.

And just for a quote about the emancipation proclamation...I can't believe you said it had no impact...

"From the first days of the Civil War, slaves had acted to secure their own liberty. The Emancipation Proclamation confirmed their insistence that the war for the Union must become a war for freedom. It added moral force to the Union cause and strengthened the Union both militarily and politically. As a milestone along the road to slavery's final destruction, the Emancipation Proclamation has assumed a place among the great documents of human freedom."

What about the liberty of those in the border states who would be jailed, just for suspected support of the south, in the states where the constitution was all but abolished. And what about how Lincoln absolutely destroyed the idea of states rights. I'm not saying that slavery was a good thing at all, but if you really study the civil war, you'll see that Lincoln did a number of horrible things and should never be placed among the ranks of the great presidents. I also scored a 5 on the AP US history test back in high school, its not that hard to do you just have to be able to write good coherent essays.
