GoPro HD - A must have for every skier

Here's a little video me, Chris Farro, and Tucker Perkins made with about 2 hours worth of skiing earlier this summer while testing the pre-production GoPro HD cam.

Basically the quality is insane, and the camera is virtually unbreakable. As much as I want to remain original with my edits and angles, all skiers should have one of these in a pocket and capture epicicity.

SO sick abe

What affiliation have you got with GoPro now?

Definitely good promo for them haha

thanks guys - if someone wants to imbed correctly that'd be chill - I have messed up linkage enough.

GoPro sent our Ski Team a few cams last year and we made a few pretty 'epic' edits. They were stoked on them and asked if we'd come film some HD promo stuff this summer - they used this video at the tradeshows and what not. We'll be working with them this year with our ski team weekly videos and I've been doing a little contract editing work on some other footage.

So stoked to see these cams and the company go huge - still deciding what path I'm going to take after graduation in 3 weeks. Looks like a few doors are opening up.

if you want, subscribe to our youtube channel and check out the vids when they come out. http://www.youtube.com/abekislevitz

A LOT sicker that I expected. Getting one this winter for sure !And this quality for 300$ ! IN-FUCKING-SANE

Woha that was sick

That would be awesome for trick tutorials, to have a pov view so you can see exactly how its done.

If any of you euros are interested in one, PM me for pricing. My distributor sells these. I'll give you a sick discount as well as you're from NS.

im feeling the contourHD, anyone got a reason why the gopro is better?

ordered one, on its way. this thing will be getting extensive use on trips out to utah. not sure anyone'd be too stoked on watching us ski groomers in PA though hah

^^ Sick as aids!!!
response to the vHoldr suggestion: i find the GoPro footage better, its somehow less shakey and sharper (even tough they both shoot HD 1080p...) GoPro als has a 60fps mode, rather sick imho....
GoPro is waterproof
GoPro can be mounted anywhere...

Only better things about the vHoldr = looks great and it has laser adjustment( i think...) but is this necessary/usefull?

review of go pro hd and comparison footage.
the reason i'd go with contour is cuz its easier to angle correctly and start shooting, the button on the side of the contour is easier to click with gloves and the dual lasers and movable inner workings allow u to but the camera anywhere and still get a good shot/angle
footage on gopro is slightly better tho
for now ill stick with my pov1 until it breaks :)

From the footage it seems the GoPro cam has a manual iris adjustment, or at least exposure lock. Anyone know if this is true?

The contourhd has sooo much distortion and really blurry corners, goprohd is much clearer. I think goprohd has a much better lens than the contourhd.

Neither seems to work very well in snow conditions from the test videos I've seen of both. Can you manually adjust exposure on either? Pretty sure you can't but I dunno. I haven't done too much research, waiting for the technology to get a bit better before I'd ever think about investing in one of these HD POVs.

go pro doesnt drop frames/is waterproof/is shockproof/shoots in 720/60p/has a working form of Image Stabilization...all of which the Contour does not.

if anyone is interested PM me or Whistler.A.Cams on here. we run a helmet camera rental business out of whistler and will be renting and selling the GP HD this winter...(as in starting december 1st)

The gopro hd has 2 different sampling options for light. One is the entire lens and another focuses on the center of the lens. The purpose of the center focus on the lens is for instances of low or focused light. For instance, if you set the gopro up in a car, the light at the direct center of the lens will be the brightest because the windows and roof shade the outer edge of the lens. That's a big reason the footage on the gopro looks better.

Translate what I wrote. I have the gopro HD at home, but I don't remember the technical terms.

ah, yea i know. that edit is what i was talking about. how would i know what was being filmed if i didn't see it?

Wow, sorry man, i completely misread your post i tought it said :
"I'm intersted to see some helmet cam footy in the park/pipe rather than backcountry lines."
instead of:
" interesting to see some helmet cam footy in the park/pipe rather than backcountry lines."
Sry dude :D

Footage looks great. If there was a way to cut down on vibration, that would make it so much better. Like IS for Canon lenses or something...

There is internal IS in the cam - trust me when you shoot footage it definitely looks pretty fluid. This year I plan to shoot pretty much exclusively at 60FPS, some of those shots were done at 30FPS and slowed down so there's a bit of jitter. I was also filming that day on a fractured heel so I wasn't all up to perfect comfort while filming, ha.

i assume most of your edit is shot in 30fps 1080p ?
if not, can you show me parts that were shot in 60fps ? i'm interested in the quality and cant wait till the weekend when mine arrives :D

not much was shot in 1080 - lower field of view (120 vs 170). The shot where he does a rodeo over the cam out at the beg is in 60fps, along with the pipe shots from the deck - used some time remapping to get the slowdown effect. A bunch of other shots too.

Coming as an optional attachment in December. Clicks onto the back and will have an expanded case back for it as well. Without the screen you never have to worry about it - so bomb proof. Threw one as high as I could when taking off of an 80 footer at Mammoth to see what sort of shot it'd make.
