Google Chrome Pilot program?!?!

be careful of the fine print. they expect everyone to provide regular feedback and possibly more. shouldn't be a big deal though.

i just did it. i don't care about the computer, i just want a free sticker. hopefully they're still giving those out

so much hype
applied, i hope i actually get one, i really like google and use most of their products

i just filled out the whole thing and submitted it and realized it said this at the top

"So if you live in the United States, are at least 18 years old, and would like to be considered for our small Pilot program, please fill this out."

fuck

I find it SO stupid they give this rule, but they give the option to enter ANY country of the world. STUPID.

After a few hours of use, the chrome OS seems very shaky and inconsistent. sometimes webpage loading is super fast, other times it doesn't even load, same with the plugins.

i really like the idea of a web based OS and i think that once all these bugs are fixed, Chrome will really challenge windows.

But one thing I don't understand, is how are you gonna be able to work when you have no connection whatsoever?

wi fi is bascially everywhere...just give it 1-2 years before they have a 3g/4g model that will take a fat crap on apple's overpriced nonsense

Meaning it will work anywhere verizon 3g does.

Anyways, not sure if i already said this, but i dont give a fuck. The worst thing about using this web based OS is not being able to download music and transfer to my zune. Hopefully they come out with a USB support update.

i want to get one of these so bad, i've been following the chrome os project since they announced it and really REALLY want to try it out

I can see a web OS working really well. Think of all the places that there's wifi now a days, even on buses and airplanes. And with the 3g card, connection is always possible.

No, thats another shortcoming. You cant install programs directly to the computer because its entirely online. I remember reading somewhere that they were working on some sort of networking app that would allow you to access your desktop from your own windows/mac computer. An idea which i really like.

i also read that they are working with some companies so they can provide their programs completely online, such as photoshop.

hahah i loled. ++k

And to sour d, it does not run windows. i has no actual "desktop" its strictly chrome internet based. many of the programs you would expect to be placed on a desktop can be downloaded as apps.

For example, google docs, which is completely online, is almost identical to Microsoft office. You can also save items to google docs.

i read online there is a switch under the battery that basically makes it jailbroken so u can download windows.

yeah for sure.

I was thinking i could make a little blog if any of the techy people were interested in following. just be reviews and shit from time to time.

That is pretty scary, but if I were to receive one of these I would just use it for school and browsing the web (which is pretty much all it can do). I love how quick the bootup is in all of the videos I have seen of it.

sell that information to companies so they can advertise things that appeal to you....

google is one step closer to taking over the world. they really are big brother but frankly, i dont care if they know what ive been doing. you guys realize that when youre logged on to google through gmail, its pretty much the same thing as logging on to a cr-48...

they still save all your search history and other random ass shit about you and dont delete it.

anyways, ive been interested in chromium ever since it was announced like last year, so i was SO excited to finally be able to test one, but as others have mentioned, only available to us residents. fuck.

and it supports 3g, so not having a connection is extrememly rare

google is essentially creating a centralized point for the internet, and computer use in general. All information goes to 1 place and gets saved there, which in some ways is brilliant and convenient, but also a bit disturbing. I can see something like this easily dominating the industry, and making laptops cheaper and simpler. More or less just a device you need to access the information, with little internal memory. That would be convenient because then you just log on to any computer, and it might as well be your own, because all your info is there (a bit like school-wide computer systems work)so you could in theory, never lose anything unless google crashes. (which is horrifying to think of as is.)

at the same time...I'm not sure I would be alright with google dominating pretty much all information.

I'm pretty sure there is a setting in google to turn off search history.
This is not my picture, but I'm pretty sure its accurate:

I dont know if id wanna sell the cr48 anyways. It certainly wont replace my current laptop by any means, but this thing is so damn convenient. with the verizon 3g, you can pretty much get access anywhere! and it takes maybe 20 seconds to go from off to internet.

no i dont think they would keep that information just for shits and giggles but hey, they've been keeping all my information for quite some time now and my life hasn't changed at all because of that so they can keep all the information they want for all i care
