Guys, are you kidding me? Manny is an absolute egomaniac. He's selfish, arrogant, defensively incompetent, and most importantly, unhappy. Have you looked at Bay and Manny's stats? They're nearly identical. Yes, Manny is having a down year. Have you considered that Bay's numbers are deflated due to the fact that he is a part of arguably the worst line up in baseball? Bay gets garbage to hit because they have no other threats on their dismal club. Bay will see a lot of hittable pitches as a sock...and he'll hit them. Is Bay skill for skill the player Manny is? No. Is Bay psyched to finally play for a contender in a city where baseball is a holy thing? Yes.
I am a Philadelphia fan. I have suffered through T.O. and late era A.I. We dumped both of them and received essentially (and literally) nothing in return. I can unequivocally say that both teams were instantly better for having severed ties with such self absorbed, media courting, assholes. This, like my examples, are truly examples of addition by subtraction. Throw in the fact that you got a good player in return and it's a fantastic deal.
