yeah seriously, it's all lies, they say that every single summer, and i can always do a better prediction based on the hotness and precipitation amounts during the previous summer. the colder and rainier the summer, the snowier and colder the winter. this has held true in my neck of the woods for the last 4 years.

in the northeast , last summer was hot and dry and last winter was one of the better ones we have had, there was snow on the ground the whole winter

yeah in New England, typical a hot, dry summer leads to a cold, snowy winter. But we've been rather wet and kinda hot this summer, so I would expect an average temp winter but not holding my breath on snowfall (hate to say it but hope I'm wrong).

I'm just waiting to start watching the squirells (usually around November)

I can deal with typical New England snow, but I want good snow going west this year, I've been screwed the last three years. Went to Utah, and it was 60 friggin degrees in SLC, sking was good, but most we had was 4 inches of fresh (1st day - only day it snowed) - and of course there was 4 feet in 3 days here in Mass. Then I went to Jackson, and again no snow. Then last year I go to Whistler, and they only had 80 inches of base, blowing snow at the base because there wasn't enough natural, and then as soon as we left, if snow for like 20 days straight. I WANT FUCKING POWDER DAMNIT.

yeah I saw a catapiller the other day and he had tones of thick fur. That means that were supposed to have a harsh winter here in Buffalo.

Yessss!!!

yeah, well over here on the west coast, the last super dry summer we had we had a wet winter. but i dont think it will be all that cold. i am guessing lots of snow, just pretty wet snow... but i hope i am wrong and they are right. bring on the fluffy stuff!

Just chill and have an ice cold...

Its a consperiecy between the media and the 'winter companies'.

If everyone thinks its gonna be a huge winter they will buy snowblowers, jackets, etc.

This winter better be good. Last winter sucked, the whole jet stream must have been out of whack because buffalo, NYC, Boston, and DC were the one's getting pounded over here in the West and VT wasn't geting jack shit. It sucked.

I said over here in the West in my post... I meant East, obviously. Although, I am in the Western hemisphere

yeah I live in Buffalo and we always get snow becuase we live right off of lake Erie. When the water is still warm say in the 40's and a cold SW wind blows over the lake we get dumped on like its nobodys buisness.

i like near buffalo springville bout 15 min from kb, where u ski at? ^

I ski at KB and Holiday once and a while, but all year I ski at a small place called buffalo ski club. Its really small and your probably going to make fun of it but its super awsome on powder days which we had almost every day last year.

yeah i know buffalo ski club, heard bout it, i know some people that ski there, anyways i ski at kb all season... and the other local resorts maybe once or twice but ive never been to the ski club

yeah, VT and parts of NH and Maine got screwed last winter. Even in Northern MA we weren't getting as much as like the Worcester hills and points south. The storms all seemed to stay oddly south.

Two years ago, now that was a good winter, a good amount of snow (a little above average) and constant temps so the snow wasn't stuck in the typical New England, snow, melt, freeze, melt, snow pattern.

i ski on KB, but at BMBW

not that much, I went in late March and most of the mountain was closed. But the year before, they had a ton the same time of year. It was definately an off year for Jay Peak last year.

honestly though, I do not understand the hard on everyone has for Jay, yeah they get decent snow, but its not like out west (and yes I am from the east coast, MA actually), the park is usually not that great (but there was a couple nice jumps last year), and although the open woods policy is nice, I have never been all that impressed (and considering it takes me over 3+ hours to get there in clear weather it can be somewhat of a let down) but I have always had a good time skiing there.

Yeah it's great if you live up by the Canadian border and can get there in/or shortly after a major snowfall, but how many people really can.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jay Peak when I get the chance to go there, but honestly, it really is just another New England area that is highly suceptible to bad snowfall years, and ice just like everywhere else, its just sick when they truly get dumped.
