Global Warming?

First Off...It's LAME!

secondly, is any place else experiencing a lot of warm weather and lack of snow for this time of year?

personally im pissed off at this being November and not snowing in Alaska...what the hell...?

yea its like that over here bro. i live in boise and neither tamarack or brundage have any snow! i feel like we are running so behind normal and that we should atleast have somewhat of a base or whatever but no nothing. shit needs to change cause im dying to shred

Well I live in north carolina(probably the second warmest state with ski resorts) and we already have two resorts open. global warming sucks but we can't really do much about it.

sure we can. if we all lower our dependence on oil we can atleast slow it down. i mean ive heard all of the arguments of how global warming is a natural occuring event and all that shit. but i mean still putting a shit load of green house gas's into our atmosphere is deffinitly not a good thing that much we do know

tons of fucking hype.

yeah we should be more careful about how we treat the environment

and global warming is being hyped as the cause to rally the masses

global warming isn't affecting our snow this winter and it didn't affect last winter, the worries are about down the road

it's good in that way but take everything you hear with a grain of salt and fully investigate all sides before believing some of the crap people are saying.

the earth is much bigger and more powerful and dynamic than our shitty race is and when we all kill each other off the earth is still going to be here growing overtop of all of our shit.

We produce less than 10 percent of CO2 emmissions

CO2 isn't even the most abundant greenhouse gas.

Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas.

We would not be able to live without greenhouse gases because it would be too cold.

The climate constantly changes, The average world temp increased 16 degrees in 50 years at the end of the last ice age.

"an inconvenient truth" has 9 scientific errors in it. Al Gore drives a navigator and heats his water with propane.

Climate change is a naturally occuring process, Trying to stop it is futile effort.

I'm not saying that conservation is bad, but its not going to help the climate change situation.

The december freeskier says that global warming won't have a huge effect on park city and vail till around 2030.

We haven't seen any effects of global warming yet, its what to come in the somewhat distant future if we don't change our ways. When these changes are economically feasible they will be made, i hope.

get your terms right... youre trying to say global climate change is lame.

and yes, it is stupidly warm here for november. But we still open saturday.

yes we wouldnt be able to live without greenhouse gases, but to much is just as bad, yes it has risen in the past, but we are definalty causing this as it just happened to start riseing after the industrial age started, and has kept riseing, we should also still try and find new fules aprt from fossil ones as when we run out we r all fucked and america is going to panik and invade every country that has oil. ye the inconviant truth did have a shit load of errors in it and all gore is fucking huge hypocrite, however he is still trying to get a message out, may it be beacuse he actuualy wants to help stop it or just wants to make money, but it shouldnt matter i still think its a good thing, and no matter what u say there is nothing bad about trying to clean up the enviroment and looking for alternative fule sources, as we are going to have to do sometime or other. end rant.

I read something that there wouldn't be skiing in Colorado by 2060, and no snow in denver in 2030, so you can't complain about global warming now...In 10, 15 20, years maybe, but now it is just weird weather cycles not global warming

wow, dont you care about anyone else? you just care that it lasts long enough so you can ski. What about your kids or grandchildren? What about everyone else in the next generation? You should care that other people are not going to enjoy the sport you love so much. They will never get to expeirience the joy of skiing. If we do something now to slow it down, other people in the future will get to enjoy the sport of skiing. That way the sport of skiing will continue far longer than expected. Its not out of our hands, we can still do things that will help.

global warming is crap.

Remember a few years back when there would be a warm winter or something and we all realized it was because of weather trends...yep, this is no different.

I agree with most of your statement. I wish we would rely more on things like ethanol because I hate that we live off foreign oil. But the start of the industrial revolution coincided with the end of a small ice age.

Personally I believe that a warmer climate would be better for the world as a whole, except for the whole thing about florida becoming the atlantic ocean.

I am all for going green on some things because for 1; it will save money and 2; while carbon emmissions do not bother me dirty water does. I think we should be conserving and cleaning up water.

in my opinion global warming is cyclic and its just something the earth goes through and actually in the super high altitudes they are getting more snow because of the more evaporation around sea level... its good for some people

I'm sorry, but if you are still denying that human actions are impacting global climate, you are incredibly ignorant.

It has been scientifically PROVEN that Co2 leads to an increase in temperature.

It is scientifically PROVEN that humans are releasing A LOT of carbon byproducts into the atmosphere that normally would be trapped within the earth, at the same time that we are destroying more and more forests and natural areas that help process CO2.

Putting scientific PROOF 1 and 2 together, how can you seriously sit there and say that we as humans are having no impact on the global climate?

Ignorance really is bliss, isn't it?

it is also scientifically proven that increased C02 leads to bigger healthier plant life.

inceased c02 could extend the areas where crops can be grown and would lead to bigger healthier crops

increased c02 could end world hunger

just throwing that out there

earth is too dynamic for us to understand much less try and fuck with. any actions we take in the name of environmentalism will most likely come back to bite us in the ass years down the road.

plus it won't even matter because pretty soon technology will change

this quote from a speech given by Michael Crichton is the bomb

Let's think back to people in 1900 in, say, New York. If they worried

about people in 2000, what would they worry about? Probably: Where

would people get enough horses? And what would they do about all the

horseshit? Horse pollution was bad in 1900, think how much worse it

would be a century later, with so many more people riding horses?

But of course, within a few years, nobody rode horses except for sport.

And in 2000, France was getting 80% its power from an energy source

that was unknown in 1900. Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Japan were

getting more than 30% from this source, unknown in 1900. Remember,

people in 1900 didn't know what an atom was. They didn't know its

structure. They also didn't know what a radio was, or an airport, or a

movie, or a television, or a computer, or a cell phone, or a jet, an

antibiotic, a rocket, a satellite, an MRI, ICU, IUD, IBM, IRA, ERA,

EEG, EPA, IRS, DOD, PCP, HTML, internet. interferon, instant replay,

remote sensing, remote control, speed dialing, gene therapy, gene

splicing, genes, spot welding, heat-seeking, bipolar, prozac, leotards,

lap dancing, email, tape recorder, CDs, airbags, plastic explosive,

plastic, robots, cars, liposuction, transduction, superconduction, dish

antennas, step aerobics, smoothies, twelve-step, ultrasound, nylon,

rayon, teflon, fiber optics, carpal tunnel, laser surgery, laparoscopy,

corneal transplant, kidney transplant, AIDS… None of this would have

meant anything to a person in the year 1900. They wouldn't know what

you are talking about.

Now. You tell me you can predict the world of 2100. Tell me it's even

worth thinking about. Our models just carry the present into the

future. They're bound to be wrong.

and half of al gores stupid ass movie was shots of gore the family man. it looked more like a campaign ad then a scientific documentary

he also used a hockey stick graph that has been disproved

and manipulated multiple statistics

and despite his film of a polar bear swimming the polar bears are not dying out the majority of polar bear colonies are thriving

but his movie did what he wanted it to he sucked in the masses of stupid people

I absolutely hate the ignorance that is shown in these thread. This should be deleted.

Guys, learn a fucking thing or two before posting about this. I have read sooo many errors as well as factoids spun (on both sides of the argument) about shit in this thread.

Global warming is happening. You can't deny it, the question is: is it people's fault? I believe that we have a lot to do with it, but recent research has shown that the change in the sun's patterns could be affecting us now as well.

are you trying to say humans have had no effect for climate change?

are you saying that 8 billion people driving cars and burning up natural resource have had no effect on our climate?

Twoods dont just hate drop some knowledge

its interesting to hear what other people think on the issue

its super interesting to hear everyone complain about global warming when the earth has been changing for millions of years and now that we have developed our society we expect it to stop changing.

the earth used to be all jungle and dinosaurs stomped around

we also had ice ages and giant glaciers sliding across north america and much of the world

why is it so hard to fathom that the earth is still changing

Global Warming is a joke, I mean come on we had snow in AUGUST! This time last year here in Colorado we were about to have record highs then two weeks later had huge storms. Its just a cycle the earth goes through, Fuck global warming and all the hype around it. its fake.

i love how people say shit like "in my opinion" what it comes to these issues.

are you a meteorologist? no, so you don't know crap.

but there are fact.

fact 1. global tempurature has risen .8 degrees celcius

fact 2. greenhouse gases are abnormally high

fact 3. imbalance in greenhouse gases is bad

fact 4. there are 8 billion people in this world and there is a strong possibility that we have contributed to 1-3.

the people who dont want you to believe in globarl warming are the people who make money off of oil, which is a lot of people. (who by the way want global warming to happen so they can tap into one of the largest oil deposits left on earth, arctic regions) face it, pretty soon you wont be able to justify driving 10 miles in you SUV when you ran out of milk.

where did you get fact 3 from

increased co2 = good for plant growth

we are helping plant life by bring c02 that is beneath the earths surface up

back to, increase co2 enough and you begin expanding the regions in which plants can grow and in other regions they will grow faster, bigger, healthier

Except for a few problems with your plant theory,.

A - Plant growth and development is much more in depth than simple CO2 amounts in the atmosphere. Soil content, local weather patterns and other factors weigh heavily in on this.

PS - World hunger is a localized problem. It occurs due to food shortages in a particular region, often as the result of droughts, or damaging storms. The saem types of stroms or droughts that will increase in severity as ocean temperatures increase.

B - Rapid deforestation is not helping plants flourish and grow.

C - Warmer ocean temperatures are likely to alter weather patterns which can lead to drought or other severe weather cycles in areas that normally do not see these types of severe weather outbreaks.

And yes, at one time the earth was covered in tropical lands, but it's the rapid warming at high altitudes that is alarming scientists. They are seeing warming rates MUCH higher than evidence from prehistoric times gives indications of.

I think Al Gore is an idiot and his movie was really dumb but i do believe that there is something not right with the whole climate change thing cause i remember about 10 years ago i was skiing during thanksgiving, that has not happened for a long time and every year snow has come later and later and the seasons have gotten off to slower and slower starts i mean something is different for sure but Al Gores movie was all about people feeling sorry for him because he lost and don't get me wrong i hate george bush but i think that part in the movie where he put the 2000 election killed the whole purpose of the movie

In Canada its still not snowing and it was snowing here on NOV8 last year and it snowed before that but we still havnt gotten any real snow at my house

You can't just blame lack of snow on global warming. What do we say when we have a powder day? Global Cooling?

global warming is a long run thing it isnt affecting our current winters

and josexi you cant just bash people here then not inform them

rediculous shit

go study global warming some more then lets have an educated thread discussion

at the same time that we are destroying more and more forests and natural areas that help process CO2.

Forests do help process CO2 yes, but they are also a major contributor to releasing C02 as well...I can't remember where I read it, and what the exact figures were, but when you combine all of the wild fires that burn in the world each year, they release a HUGE amount of harmful gases into the atmosphere.

My whole stance on the global warming issue:

From what I have learned from my years of schooling, and the little attention that I have paid to global warming, and climate change is that the Earth goes in cycles...It got extremely warm for a while, froze completely over, and has been in a slow thaw for the past however many years it has been since the ice age. From what I know, it will eventually revert back into an ice age, rinse and repeat.

I'm sure there are things that technology and that we can do to slow this process, but I think that we cannot simply put and end to it and live in this happy little paradise where it's minus 10 and snowy in the winter and plus 30 and sunny in the summer. It will just do whatever it is naturally supposed to do. So instead of pouring millions of dollars into attempting to stop the inevitable, put that money into things that really matter.
