Global Warming?

Increased CO2 levels should mean increased numbers in plants, but in addition to pumping out more CO2, we have decided to tear down trees left and right and rip up areas that were previously filled with plant life. Apparently walmart's 30 acre parking lot is more important.

Also, CO2 isn't the only thing coming out of exhaust pipes and power plants. You don't think that we're warming the planet. Cool, but can you honestly look at a factory and tell me that the thick black, yellow white, whatever color smoke it is, is not causing some sort of damage. Do you really want to be breathing that shit? Why do people try to oppose trying to clean up our planet.

Exactly Neffer.

Plus, you're missing the point MolsonGolden. Yes the earth does go thru cycles, but the speed of which the current warming is taking place is occuring at a rate far above what historical analysis has shown.

Trying to say that homan actions cannot possibly influence the global equilibrium is as ignorant as one can possibly be.

i didnt say we shouldnt look into cleaner energy but we dont need extreme environmentalism to lead us to that

cleaner more efficient energy is going to come about due to economic reasons anyways

and fuck off i dont base opinion on michael crichton he just said it well and he does a lot of research when he writes and recently wrote a book on global warming.

i love the environment and yeah we do need to stop polluting so much but all the global warming hype is exaggerated bullshit based on computer models

the same scientists that are hyping global warming hyped that there would be mass starvation even in america in the 80's

scientists also warned us about an impending ice age in the 70's

global warming is just the new trendy thing to bitch about

I read 3 posts in this entire thread and its the same ridiculous argument that every global warming thread on NS has.

I dont even know where to start...

i read the first sentence of a few.  it seems like half of you take something right off the news or some movie and believe it.  all i'm going to say in this one is search bar and take a geography class.

That means we can grow some dank weed! Ha HA. Anyways. Here in Taos we have a small snow storm in October ansd then its been sunny ever since then. Our usual opening date (Thanksgiving) has been postponed to December 15. Yeah Im a little bummed and all but my skis arent ready anyways and there is always Colorado to go to.

Yeah I believe in global warming, but I think we have a smaller impact on the matter then people say we do. Climate change is all a part of Earth's history and it is just something we have to deal with. But I do believe that we should start really investing our money into better energy resources NOW, before we dig ourselves a hole we cannot get out. And thats my two cents on the matter.

You would think it shouldn't take extreme environmentalism, but sadly,

nobody will do anything that makes more work for them unless there is a

big push for it.

Its not the new trendy thing to bitch about, people are just starting to actually care now.

I wasn't talking specifically to you before for the second part of my last post, I was just making a general statement.

Global Warming is just something that Al Gore made up so that he can be famous again. Its a joke, Just like "manbearpig".

I agree with that other dude, it looks like a bunch of you just looked it up and copy and paste about it to look smart.

SKI NAKED!!!!

If we are having an effect it is not all of the increase.

and btw there are only around 6.5 billion people on the planet and most do not drive cars.

are you all kidding?  75 percent of people that believe in global sound like this.  CNN told me global warming is real, so did al gore, so i'm not going to formulate an actual opinion based on education or knowledge.  Because there is no way Al Gore or CNN would be wrong so i'm just going to be a sheep and repeat what they say to sound educated.

I have respect for those who actualy pull stats and can put up a decent argument even though i personally dont even believe in it at this point.  CNN reported that 40 percent of greenland has melted off since the 1920's and 30's a few weeks ago.  So yes clearly CNN is a reliable source for global warming news.(sarcasm)  15 Geologists and Scientists in Greenland disproved it, and showed stats that the world went through its warmest dryest stage in the 1920's and 30's, even more so than now.  I trust those experts way more than Larry King or Chris Matthews or any other left wing CNN reporter that simply reads negative news off of cards for a living.

Its the same everywhere in the world, man. At MArble, NL they opened later and later in December almost evry year, with a few exceptions since the hill started operations. It hasthe dates on their website. all i can say is: Ride your bicycle, keep the lights and everything else electrical turned off and unplugged, unles you absolutely need to use it. Eat less cow. grow your own veggies, if you have time. weatherproof your windows in winter so you use less heat, plant trees to use carbon dioxide. instead of mowing your lawn, let it grow. you will then ahve a post -modern lawn, which will inhale more CO2, be healthier, and you won't have to watse time and gas mowing it. plus it will be the best lawn in the neighbourhood, no matter what ne one says. Or just amke it in to dirt jumps for biking, or a water ramp, and tramp, foam pit complex if you have the money. Sorry for the lecture. just some suggestions.

that is absolutely true. Waste veg. oil in a diesel engine is a way better way to reduce Co2 emissions. Or just ride your bike, it is a way more efficient way to get around anyway, in terms of energy use. if you are interested in reading, you should read the article "More Profit With Less Carbon" by Amory B. Lovins. He knows his shit. It's a very good article, even though it focusses more on saving money through efficiency than global warming. read it.

I'm not doing this one. If you want to see why global warming is real and why we should be concerned, go read one of the other countless threads I've posted in on this topic. I really dont feel like typing the same words over and over.

Let it be said however, that those of you who think we should just sit on our hands are dumbfucks.

That doesn't change the fact that you get less energy per gallon compared to gas. It really doesn't work out to be any better.

Im very skeptical about the "its takes more than a gallon of gas to produce a gallon of ethanol"

that to me doesnt make any economical sense.

the cost of production therefore is greater then the product being sold, why they hell would anyone want to MAKE ethanol fuel then if there is no way for them to make a profit.

im really skeptical about that.

Im pretty sure that ethanol gives your vehicle more miles to the gallon than regular gas. My dad and his business partners are building an ethanol plant in louisiana.

No, its true. I got that from an Organic Chem lecture, but I'll try and dig up some stuff for you later if you want. Its really only talked about because it will help wean us off foreign oil. As far as environmental issues go, its is not any better. Nobody ever talks about the negative parts though, which is quite unfortunate because it just causes all these misconceptions. Also, corn, which is the easiest source of ethanol, is also one of our main food sources. Think of how much land goes to corn for food, then think about how much more we will need to grow to produce enough fuel for us to use in our cars.

I'll try to look up stuff later if I remember. I don't have time right now.

thats a good point dude, i really dont know what the number is...does anybody know the number? a rough (and probably awful) guesstimate would be like 1-2 billion drive cars.......and al gore is a hypocrite!

Al Gore drives a Lincoln Navigator. If he wanted to actually cause change he should set a good example.

There might not even be a billion people who drive cars everyday. Many people even in the united states carpool or use public transportation. We might be causing some problems for the earth right now, but I find it hard to believe that we are causing ALL the problems with the climate.

this isnt global warming talk that much and i havent gotten too much into except last year when i was taking health but doesnt el nino have something to do with it being warmer this winter?

there isn't an el nino this winter.....

but there is a la nina, which means colder temps and more snow for the PNW!!!!!!!!!

this is exactly it. people fdon't read, people don't think. he said natural resources not cars.

This thread is so rediculous and filled with bad information, spun from both sides of the argument to make one or the other look better, and perhaps even more filled with fallacies and illegitimate arguments.

twoods this is the second time you have judged but havent corrected

if you think everyones ideas and reasoning are so flawed then correct them dont just post "wah wah you are so wrong"

like 4days ago we got like 8inches of snow and it was only like 27degrees out now its suppost to be in the low 50s but then after 3 days of that its supost to stay cold with snow this happens everyyear its not even december yet and everyine is freeking out p.s im from the upper penninsula of michigan marquette to be precise

No, well, as far as I know its just the ear right now. I haven't really been paying much attention to whats been going on recently.

dude, fuck that. its november in big sky, montana and we havent seen shit for snow. 10 years ago it was always dumping this time of year. global warming is taking effect now, wether people like it or not. and the majority of people wont do anything about it until its an absolute crisis

and meanwhile were getting fucked over in alaska. its people with your ignorance thats going to finish off our ice cap. "it dosnt effect me, so why should i care about it". congradulations.

it sucks, but does anyone pay any attention to any other ecological problems like pollution? Remeber how important it used to be to cuz all of those little plastic six-pack rings before you threw them away? Noone really saw the pix of the birds that choked to death because they ate styrofoam or something. Global warming is like those six-pack rings.

Also, what is with the hybrid hype? they still burn gasoline and emit CO, it just costs you less, its not necisarily better for the environment.

And biodiesel, IT ALSO emits CO, and is still bad for the environment, you just aren't relient on fossil fuels.

WOW. think about it bud. a hybrid will gets more MILES PER GALLON. More MPG means less need for gasoline. Less gasoline means less CO2 emissions

The reason biodiesel is better for the environment is because it emits LESS co2 than other fuels,

and it still relies on fossil fuel, as diesel is part of the mixture

im going to drop a few "What Ifs"

What if:

global warming has a reverse affect on some continents...?

we go through another ice age, it happened once, it can happen again.

im done lol my teacher is coming back...

OH YEAH...indoor ski areas will be here forever...lame sauce they are but it's still skiing.

lol @ mt steeze and the global warming causing you to have less snow than 10 years ago. horrible

there are worse things happening in our world right now. why is everyone freaking out over supposed global warming when

-over 1 billion people in the world live on less than $1.day

-1 in 6 people lacks safe drinking water

- 18,000 children die from hunger and malnourishment EVERY DAY

and ethanol cars are a joke, great idea to make fuel out of food when there are people dying from starvation every day. vegetarians have been bitching for us to stop eating meat for years because we feed grain to animals while there are starving people, so we should probably now start using food to fuel our vehicles.

electric cars are going to replace gasoline cars and it isnt going to take a bunch of weirdos freaking out for that to happen. electric cars are going to be cheaper to run and cheaper makes sense to people because people care about money. batteries are currently being developed and there are plans for charging stations along roads just like we have gas stations today.

yeah we should take better care of the environment and not pollute but worry about something that is proven and is happening today instead of bitching about a theory. I'm not saying it isnt important or trying to talk you out of your global warming beliefs, im just saying there are more important things.

the earth is dynamic and changes to maintain homeostasis. we are all going green because it is the hip hollywood thing to do now and the world is going to be ok so now lets work on not killing each other, start helping each other, and progress as a race and society.

were not saying that we have a tough life due to global warming.

were just bitching about how we can't do what we love because of the stupidity of the world and our inefficient products and machines...

dude, every single car company is trying to stop electric cars.

there used to be electric cars by GM, Toyota, and Ford back in the late 90s but then they realised that they are not profitable so they took them all back and destroyed hundreds if not thousands of perfectly good electric cars.

fact is, all the money car companies make from combustion engine maintenance, (oil filters ect) dont transfer to electic cars cuz they dont break down.
