here is my opinion on the subject. some of this has been said before but oh well.

In any sport, the performance level of men and women will be different. This occurs for several reasons. First, we are built differently. Mens bodies are built to be able to do more physical tasks than women. They have different hormones which make them think differently. Need proof? look at the number of deaths due to car crashes for people ages 16 to 30. Men have a much higher number. why? their hormones make them take more risks, resulting in more fatalities. this affects skiing too. it is easier for a guy to try something he has never tried before. women are mentally programmed to protect their bodies for childbirth. today, this is not necessary, but it's just the way the brain works. also, men and women have different percentages of muscle. and the fact that men weigh more doesn't make them get hurt more easily, it happens more because of their risk taking.

also, mens sports have always developed before womens sports. that's just the way it is. they start out, progress, and THEN the womens equivalent begins. therefore, if a sport is still progressing, girls performance will obviously be behind. this, coupled with the physical attributes and mental attributes will result in a lower level of sports performance compared to that of the mens.

but does that mean that 'girls suck'? of course not! october, that is a completely ignorant thing to say and I hope you have read what everyone has written and learned something here. men and women perform at different levels in sports. big deal. the top men are recognized, and so are the women. if anything, women should be complaining that our top athletes get much less than top mens athletes. it is virtually impossible for a girl, in ANY sport, to go pro. but think of all the men who are pro athletes and live off their sport. hockey, basketball, baseball, etc.

so don't get mad when girls who may do smaller tricks than some guys get sponsored. they have worked just as hard as the guys, and deserve it.

did you even read what i wrote??? it is physically impossible for a girl to reach the same level as a guy in skiing due to hormones and body composition. and yes sarah and kristi do get a lot, but they are the top women skiers. therefore they should get the same as top mens skiers, like tanner. but do they? of course not!

 
also since you're bringing other profeshional sports into this, maybee if women took more intrest in sports, there would be more intrest for womens sports. Think about it would you like to watch the guys that didn't make it into the nfl? no that's why arena football is lame, well then why should people watch womens sports? simply because women are playing? no. People want to see the best, if it's a man or a woman it doesn't matter. but it just so happens to work out that men are the best at most things.

agian, let me point out something. yes, females are built different, but its not like skiing is an extremely pyscical sport. Biking, running, swimming, excetera. these are all way mor pysical. so i really dont think the muscle thing has much to do with it. and there are plenty of scrowny guys who throw down and are on the same level aas bigger guys. hell, look at tanner hall. that dude is tiny. hes not some kind of big ripped monster. the muscle thing can pretty much be ruled out, cause it just doesnt make sense. now, granted, you definatly have a point. Most women are not as agressive as guys. but its not like most guys can ski up to a big jump or rail, and be like 'Aggghhh! im a big strong guy, this 80 ft kicker is nothing, im gonna throw a switch cork 10, cause im not scared!'. i dont care who you are. guy, girl, whatever. common sense tells you what your doing is stupid. and thats where the whole mental game comes in. you just have to learn to look past it. maybe it is easier for guys to risk it on shit like that, but its still just a mental game you play with yourself.

yeah. and when i say this, i am not trying to dis female athletes, but there shouldnt be this preconcieved boundery that women have to be on a lower level than the guys. thats bullshit. i think society's point of veiw on female athletics is more to blame than the pyshical differences of guys and girls. and also, im not jealous, because i understand why female athletes get sponsered. its not because they are the best rider the company can afford, but because the number of girls getting into newschool are growing, and buy having a girl on the team, it shows that they support women in skiing.

Think of it this way, there's really two points of view.

1. You're better than the average jibber, but you're no pro. You work your ass off to pay for equipment, lift tickets and all the other shit you need. If you're lucky you might get to ski 5 or 6 days during the summer at a shitty publick park. Meanwhile, somebody else who you are 5 times a better skier than, is GETTING PAID to ski at windells park all summer, shoot with the biggest production companys, and gets a ton of free shit from oakley. Almost makes you feel like cutting off your penis so you can be a pro too.

2. You like to ski, its pretty fun, and you love all the attention you get from the guys. People are giving you free shit all over the place, you don't really have to work. Would you turn it down? HELL NO

I'm gunna back up a bit on this one. Same idea that I've been trying to get across, just pitched from a little different view.

I'm going to say this again. Girls are not as good as the guys in alot of sports. A few weeks ago, I picked up wakeskating, and was joking with a friend of mine about getting some sort of sponsorship. What he said in response to this is 'Yeah, you probably could get sponsored locally just by being able to clear the wake and doing a pop shuvit.' Later, at a wakeboarding competition, I heard a comment off to the side about how I 'could get a sponsor by just doing HS and TS wake jumps plus one invert', while they'd have to be ten times better to even be considered for any sponsorships.

To a certain extent, this is true. However, with a sport like wakeboarding, it took me a longer amount of time to learn backrolls than it did for a friend of mine. No, I don't know all of the mechanics that make it easier for men to excel in sports such as this, but through experience, that is what I have found. Men are better at ballet because they have more endurance and strength. Yeah, they do have to work hard to get there, but so do the women who get to the level that they're at. The same thing goes for almost any other sport.

It's one thing to say that women are not at the point where guys are, because that statement is true. However, it is another thing to say that it is the fault of the women involved in the sport. It is my belief that most women in the industry worked hard to get to where they are now, and therefore deserve the recognition that they get. Rather than trying to bring these women down, you should support them.
