I agree that women have progressed a lot and they are amazing skiers, but to put them in the same category as men so as to compare the two is like saying a 2 year old with tricycle and a ducatti should be able to go the same speed. The truth is, as of right now, the men have proven to be better than the women. I'm not saying that I don't think women are capable of doing stuff, I'm saying that they just don't. Don't ask me why though...

And as for the whole building up confidence thing, I have yet to see somebody fly into a rail or table top and grease it first try.

Who the fuck have you seen ski directly onto a rail without stopping to check it out or inspect it before trying to slide it? Maybe I just haven't seen many good skiers, but nobody is such a good judge of speed and shit that they can just hit a rail without running up to it and doing a speed check first.

we are talking about the highest level of skiing here. they dont even have girls slopestyle televised in the x games, but they have women wakeboarding for a reason, swimsuits.

Okay, well maybe you should have titled your post Kristi sucks. Any time that I have skied with her or competed with her she always had some sort of lame excuse for why no-namers were showing her up. But, not all girls are like that.

And secondly, no shit that her career is based primarily around her looks, but that's not her fault. It is the fault of all of the males in the sport. If you take a look at the top women in freeskiing right now, you will most likely realize that very few of them are unattractive. Sarah Burke, Michelle Parker, Grete Eliasen, Lisa Solberg, Jess Cumming, Marie Martinod, Virginie Faivre...they are all hot skier chicks and they are the best at the sport right now. Why? You may ask...because the guys in this sport are more welcoming and encouraging of the hot girls so they stick around longer and end up better than some of the less attractive skiers who are intimidated by the comments of fellow guy skiers. So, maybe you should keep that in mind before criticizing Kristi for what she cannot control. I am not a Kristi fan and I don't thing that she's going to last much longer in this sport, hence why she wasn't invited to the Women of Freeskier shoot this year, but she still paved the way along with Sarah for the rest of the women that will ever be famous for freeriding.

yeah, there are some good points on both sides. for one, there are a lot of female skiers coming onto the scene who rip. however, there really is no reason why there are no female skiers even touching the skills of your standard AM riders. and let me back this by presenting gymnastics. the girls throw down just as hard (in my opinion harder) than the guys. now granted, there arnt nearly as many girls as their are guys skiing, and companies want a decent female athlete to attract potential female buyers, but there really should be at least 3 or for who could hold their own with the guys. girls are a lot lighter and more flexable, which means the lurning curve should be a lot quicker, cause when someone whose 170 falls, it does alot more damage than someone who weighs 100.

Don't get me started on wakeboarding.

For one thing, the progression of tricks in wakeboarding is almost done (even for men), and girls are catching up rapidly, each on different tracks. Dallas Friday is making every sing one of the tricks she learns absolutely HUGE, Melissa Marquardt has amazing progression on sliders and Emily Copeland is making everything stylie by trying to grab it all.

No, these women are not at the level of the top male riders in wakeboarding, but they're pretty dang close. Take Dallas Friday for an example. She could probably beat 1/4 pro male wakeboarders out there, and just about every amateur male wakeboarder out there.

This goes for both skiing and wakeboard, but here it is. Women are not built the same as men, and this makes it much more difficult to go as big as men. Women do not have as much strength, and sometimes have to think through what they're doing a couple of times. This does slow the rate of progression down, but eventually they will be at or near the level of the guys.

How could you say someone who is 170 will get hurt much worse than someone who is 100? I would say it is the exact opposite. Yes girls are more flexible but male bodies are build to withstand more.

 
There's no denying that the level of girls skiers right now is anywhere near the level of guys, but that doesn't mean that the girls who are on top shouldn't get recognition. Yes the skills required for a girl to get reconized are way lower than the skills required for a guy to get recognized, but that doesn't mean that it is necessarily easier for girls. If you measured the level of men and women they would both be a bell curve with similar ranges in ability from worst to best skiing. The only difference is that the bell curve for women would start lower than where it does for men. I have no doubt that some chicks will eventually be able to throw down with the best guys, but if it's not right now then get over it. Who the fuck cares what the sport is doing right now anyways. If you really were into freeskiing you would be looking toward the longterm progression of the sport. That's where women have a lot more potential than men because right now we are farther behind. Give it time and some girls will be throwing down with the guys.

a heavy object falling creates alot more force than a light one. the same reason you can drop a mouse from ten feet up without hurting it. try that with a 60 lb kid. and the higher the height, the more the force increases.
