Absolutely agree with this guy! Cars are cars! Unless it's a damn escalade or almost any Cadillac from 1980 on.

Gonna stop you right there. The CTS-V and the ATS Twin Turbo are fucking awesome pieces of machinery.

I agree with you there. They are great machines but other than that I feel like they are lacking. They feel very cheap plasticy on the inside and the layout of the interior just doesn't really work. And then from a biased standpoint I think the Cts-v is a very homely looking car with waaayyy too much chrome. But I know some people dig that.

Can't find a better picture than this, but imo my brother's 1.8 Avant looks way better than that S4. Lowered a bit with a few other tasteful mods here and there.

If GM wouldn't cheap out and use SOOO much plastic I would really like them. The amount of plastic parts that have broken in my dad's top-of-the-line Avalanche is insane. My base model accord that is 5 years older is in amazing condition comparatively.

Don't even get me started on chrome.

BMW>Audi>Mercedes>VW...

It's funny what a different image americans have of german cars, but honestly considering your cars, you might aswell put all german companies one a pedestal.

here Mercedes is seen as the real premium brand with most thought being put into the interior for sure and producing an extremely well rounded car, they are also the most seen in germany I would say.

Audi in my eye has a much sportier image and has a well rounded brand image.

BMW doesnt tickle my fancy at all and i get the feeling they arent what they could be.

VW is exactly what the Name states (Volkswagen pretty much means peoples car) And obviously they have a cheaper image (and they are) but they also have a bombproof reputation of.. being bombproof (Also most people's first car here)

This is all just my opinion and how brands seem to be portrayed in europe vs USofA

VW is below average in reported reliability/dependability.

Interestingly, and hopefully we don't get too far off topic, Subaru is only average, despite NS thinking they are the best cars ever built. What is funny, though, is the 2008 data, since NS always recommends used Subarus and shits on older German cars. BMW, Audi, and Mercedes ALL ranked higher than Subaru only 6 years ago.

Woah woah woah. That was purely opinion.

If I were gonna state some facts I would go

Mercedes>audi>bmw>vw, based off preformance of course. AMG is very good and even some of the non-AMG mercs are sick. IMO the S, RS, and R lines have more to offer than the M series. VW really cant hold a candle to the rest of these but as you said that's not what they are trying to market, even though I love the R and R32.

I may be american but Im a huge eurofag.

Well see what I wrote, VW is seen as the norm of the peoples' car and very many people drive them and here they are seen as something where you rarely can do wrong and old ones have become pieces of culture.

This is exactly how I see it, Note the order I wrote those in.

Obviously this could be seen differently depending on where you see it from as VW probhably has a better Bang for buck than a mercedes of the same class, seeing as the other main german brands are seen as "premium" brands

(here pretty much every taxi is an E or C- class and many many industry trucks are Also Mercedes, which is something you don't see in murica)

All in all, this is how I Have grown to see it as I have grown up with our family driving mercedes and now as The kids get their licenses, 2/3 drive old golfs and 3 (me) is looking into getting an old MK2 16v as a base for future improvement.

hope this stayed understandeable..

Hey, don't get me wrong, I love my VW; however, to say VWs are "bombproof" is a pretty bold (and generally untrue) statement.

Okay, maybe it is, but they definitely are a staple in car culture and have a bombproof reputation and are always working to keep it up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Someone has been listening to Top Gear a little too closely.

Jeremy Clarkson wouldn't drive a Subaru Outback. And believe it or not Mr. Bend I have had that opinion for a while now. A few years back before I started even watching TopGear my dad was looking into getting a Cts-v and we both decided that the car had a fabulous engine but the transmission wasn't at the same level and the interior was not a great place to be sitting. And, I know that you feel the same way that I do about chrome Mr. Bend.

On a side not. You used to be a mega German car fan until yours failed you and I'm not saying anything about German cars in this because all cars do break down. But, I've held true to my opinions and yours seem to be changing.

Actually he would. The Legacy Outback and the Ford Mondeo was the only car that all 3 presenters could agree on were great cars thus making them Top Gear's car of the year.

yeah that was before i lost compression in 2 cylinders, front suspension failed, second turbo went out, transmission blew, interior literally just fell out. Audis may look nice and go fast, but they are just pure shit for anyone who wants some reliability, which is much more important to me because i have to pay for it.

I would only change one thing here Mercedes > BMW> Audi> VW. Only reason for changing BMW and Audi around is because Audi's electronic steering feels dangerous to me, there is not enough steering feel, which makes me very nervous.

Yeah but you used to think the exact opposite. As long as it looked good who cares if it's functional and I'm glad your opinion has changed.

I agree to a certain extent. Having driven my mom's s6 many times I would say the steering is kinda weird. So much different from my vw, in the audi you just don't feel connected to the road. But performance wise, they may be heavier than the M3 and M5 and understeer more, but the power is something else.

I had this bad boy for 2 years when i was in Germany. it's a 1997 BMW 318TI. 5 Sspeed manual, elec windows/mirrors, 6 cd disk changer in the back, heated seats, sunroof and a dope audio system all stock. It also had an M sport package in it. It wasn't much, but for a inline 4 banger she got around. she was quick in the corner, and off the line. Held like a champ.....in the 4 banger category and year, I realize i would have been smoked by newer cars. But all my friends in germany had cars around the same year and style. She wasn't much but she was my first BMW will always have a special place in my heart.

I'd have to agree. In my experience, the newer Audi generation has been unimpressive as they age. My best friend is selling her S4 after 2 years because she's sick of taking it to the shop. It's been a royal pain in the ass in every aspect of the vehicle. I don't get it honestly, they look and drive nicely but 2 years later you can't stand them. The older Audi's seem to be much better quality.

I prefer the nerdier and 100% more German ADAC pannenstatistik, mostly because instead of a survey onder owners, it's done by ADAC and ADAC is the one who responds to essentially every automotive breakdown in Germany.

And with the Germanic proclivity for thorough record keeping, they have kept them all, and analyzed them more thoroughly than any of Freud's patients ever were. Did your mother have a flat in 1983? ADAC knows.

2013:

But in the end, who cares, and anyway averages don't matter when your Fiat drives perfectly for 500K and your BMW has had it's engine rebuild 3 times in a year.

Dat Audi 200, mmmmmmmmm. Correct me if I'm wrong but I recall hearing from multiple sources that this is one of the best blocks Audi put out. Like you can make almost 500hp before replacing any internals....

Yeah that is very true, easily one of the best motors audi has every built, essentially the same motor used in the old group b audis that kicked ass.

Now let's get back to the pr0n:

003.jpg

Considering people have been talking about good blocks here, this is based on the original 1.8 16V block from ages ago, and now makes somewhere around 1000HP. (needless to say what some american "racing" v8s put out now, no hate)

Also, with a good, not as balls out turbo setup, the engine can make up to 4-500hp, all this is street legal, including the first car.

From this summer to next, I'm looking to save up enough to get me something like this, as a good base to make good power in the future. (of course with the 16v block.)

I respect that amount of power from a VW but my god those front ends make me want to vomit.
