u can use the mini trick skis but they suck wakeboarding is more fun anyways u can always try barefoot though those guys are bad ass when they huck like a mile off the wooden jumps

kbus124: so i see a movie is more important then me...i can handle that

nPublicEnemy900: not the whole movie just iannick b

They would have to be really wide in order to stay up, and its not like you could cork or anything, you have a rope you have to hold on to. It would be cool though.

ya, they have twin tip waterskis, they are like snowblades. you cant pop off hte wake, its stupid, go wakeboarding

ive seen water skiers do frontflips and backflips off of those wooden ramps. thank god for the tommy bartlet thrill show!

yeah they gotta make super fat twins with tons of pop for twintip waterskiing, as well it would be fun hitting up sliders on them...it do it

I can throw lincons on a normal set of waterskis. Shaun Murray does em his instructional video 'dention' but yeah freestyle waterskiing has been around longer than wakeboarding. It is really lame though. Who ever said you can't get corked because of the rope, is a little uninformed. A rope gives you such more control over your body, if you load the tension right, the rope become a steady cable and you can use it to pull your body every which way. You can do rewinds, like spin 180, tug a little on the rope and spin back to normal before you land. Yeah wakeboarding is the next best after skiing, and surfing. But yeah don't ride those little twin tip waterskis, unless you like rollerblading.

It's really easy to cut yourself waterskiing. I used to slalom(sp?). and you have to be so incredibly careful cause the fin on the back is long and sharp and will come up and cut your head/face. It's pretty common for most slalom skiers to cross their arms in front of their face when they fall because of this (at least that's how I was taught and how I've seen a lot of others do it.). I think it's the same with waterskiing with two skis, but I'm not sure. But honestly, don't waste your time with waterskiing. Wakeboarding is so much more fun, and you can do alot more.

I guess i can buy that one. I haven't slalomed hardcore forever. But yeah wakeboarding, wakeskating and wakesurfing are better than waterskiing. Unless you like cutting back and fourth all day.

ya they already have trick water skis, they're super hard to get up and they get away from you cause of the shape, but you can grab and flib on them, but it's ugly

the add was fischer I think. I just saw some commercial, waterskiing promo vid, and off of the jump they set up, one guy backflipped it, one lincoln looped it(off axis I think) and the other guy spun a 360. none of it was too stylish, but it can still be done

i cut my head like this:

it's my first and only time.

i was doing super good, so the boat guy yelled for me to clear the wake, or motioned or whatever, for me to jump the thing behind the boat

so i swung wide, and did it. i guess i cleared it by like 10 feet, landed a little forward i guess, fell forward, tips must have dug in, and back of skis came up and hit me in head. like 8 stitches.

skurfing was what wakeboarding was first called. The first skurfboards were oversized plastic kneeboards with sandal straps. Wakesurfing is different. It is actually surfing behind the wake of the boat, you start with the rope hella short and then once you are up to speed you let go and pump the wake like surfing. it awesome going for like a 4 minute long hands free surf ride without paddling. Kiteboarding is fucking sweet. Too expensive though, I broke one of my buddie's harnesses and I still owe him like another 300 bucks usd. But yeah kiteboarding was the biggest I have ever gone it is insane.

i've never tried kiteboarding, and it looks really fun, but at the same time kinda fruity. i mean, they seem to not really do anything, yet they get like 30 feet of air. im probably wrong but thats just my opinion.

no, it's chanllenging. trust me. you have to worry about the sail, your harness, the board and the waves all at once. A lot of multitasking at first, then you get the feel.

Wakesurfing can also be called Landlock surfing at that is where its at if you have never done it its way fun.

As for the person who cant get air on waterskis its cus your using a waterski rope not a wakeboarding rope which unlike a waterski rope that has give and rebound to it a wakeboard ropen has little to no give and rebound which allows you to get pop.

The rope makes a huge difference.

I guess one of the problems would be that you need so much more speed to waterski than wakeboarding so it would be harder to pull many moves. But yeah I don't see why you couldn't go on a slider on waterskis. In a sense its probably like snowboarding and skiing. Wakeboarding is in a sense like snowboarding and no one ever thought of all the stuff on skis so maybe we just need some people to be inventive or get 'newschool' waterskiing out there....

Line tension is important in getting air, but it isn't that big of a factor I wakeboard behind ski-ropes all the time and get just as high, but important nonetheless. Also you when you are water skiing you do need to get pulled a lot faster, and that reduces the wake size, also just the shapes and angles prevent good pop.

^Yea, I've boarded behind a ski rope up until this summer. The only main diff I see is that you don't get jerked around as much by the rope, but that could just be the perfect pass...hehe. The wakeboard handle is really what makes the biggest difference. I guess once you get into really complex stuff or if you are at a competition level, then the rope could be important...

Yeah your right about the extra speed reducing the wake size a shitload. We got a Wedge but even then you still really need some fat sacks or something in the boat (or some really fat people). Of course if you have a tower or pole that will obviously also help you get some more pop/air.

How effective are the perfect passes? Dad bought one for our boat when he went over to the US a few years back but we have never got aournd to installing it.

the perfect pass is really good, especially for when the water is a bit choppier out, cause otherwise you get lugged around AND have to survive huge waves at the same time.

Yeah perfect pass rocks, especailly when you have drivers that don't know how to drive. Or when you have had a few. I know a buddy that installed it on an older boat that wouldn't hold a steady speed and perfect pass fixed that problem. But if you ask me it is just like cruise control on a car, and cruise control can fuck your tranny or motor by keep a speed that your motor doesn't want to by upping rpms. But if you are pulling a wakeboarder you hardy go past 21mph ever, unless you want to see someone get real scared, real mad, then real hurt, then really really mad.

my brother did that to me once. I got pissed cause I pulled a muscle in my leg and in my right wrist and it hurt lke hell for a few days, plus I drank about half the river, and willamette water isn't tasty...

Yeah I have ridden around the willamette area before, or at least somewhere down in oregon called something like that. One day we thought it would be really fun to wakeboard behind one of those little flat speed boats, with a 454 blower mounted engine, to see how fast we could get going. Yeah I think right around 50 mph wakeboards don't work, and water turns to concrete, I might of broke or bruised my ribs pretty bad. It was an experience though

I've been, for the last few years, trying to think of a way to try some 'freestyle' waterskiing. The only way is off a jump.....and I suck at that thing. It's so much bigger than it looks and you land so hard (no downslope like ski jumps). Wakeboarding is much more conceptual to snowboarding. The thing about wakeboarding is you get that extra 'pop' with your feet being positioned the way they are and that big surface area underneath you.......waterskiing you don't.

There are 'jump' skis which are wider and we've gotten some good air wake to wake on those things cause you can go slow enough for a larger wake.

Someone mentioned kitesurfing. I'm an avid kiter/windsurfer. If you want to try kiting just do it. The learning curve is short...took me 5 years to become a competent windsurfer and about 2 years (max) to become a competent kiter....but I still like windsurfing more.

Go balls, have some summer fun and don't sit on your ass.

I was watching a bowflex informercial last night, and the seaworld waterski team used bowflex and got amazing results. Also they show some clips of guys doing flips and what not off a kicker. Still no style yet, it reminds me of freestyle ski areials, good 'form' and all that.

'i've never tried kiteboarding, and it looks really fun, but at the same time kinda fruity. i mean, they seem to not really do anything, yet they get like 30 feet of air'

you're an idiot!

kiteboarding is the greatest sport on earth. Takes the skills from surfing, wakeboarding and windsurfing and combines them into one. Guys are doing 30 foot high inverted 540 handle passes, 360 to land jib to 540 out, 60 foot airs and over 9 seconds of hangtime. Trust me they do stuff. You can ride waves, go fast , go huge, bust tricks, slide rails. Its almost as versatile as skiing.

Its an unbelievable sport. Nothing fruity about it. you have no idea what you're missing!

its really fun

You sound like one of my friends. She won't go boating with me if we go to the willamette cause She's afraid of growing scales or something. Believe me though, I've had my share of willamette water, and the most it's done to me is knock me out cause I caught an edge and slammed face first into the water.

Yo, a friend and I, we both wakeboard, but we took his dad's really nice waterskis and went out on a course. It was so much fun, but it hurts a lot more than wakeboarding on the landing and shit. i haven't tried it since.
