For the Haters: Go Pro

Not to be one of the many haters but there are a shit load of people out there now with the Go Pro Camera. As someone who purchased mine less than a month after its release in '09 i can say they work really well and you can definitely get some sick shots; outrageous fun. Needless to say however, there are a lot of joeys out there with them, so just to establish a general NS consensus:

How big must you throw down in order to rightfully rock the Go Pro?

Regardless of responses keep ragin 'em if you already have one

i know what you mean. i've seen gapers at my local mountain with them and i just thought, 'who is going to want to watch that pov?'that said, i think that anyone who can readily acquire one should use one, in order to not miss that perfect shot when it arises. i love having one, not just for skiing pov but a variety of uses; sledding, tripod mounted for my backyard. and i'm really stoked to use the waterproofness this summer for cliff jumping and fishing.

was just in utah the past week.

wished i had one so much for the powder.

they are quite usefull and an incredible ammount of people use them

maybe because its the best vimeo camera you can buy for 300 dollars. is in full hd and is waterproof. everyone can fucking have a go pro. your an idiot for thinking you need to be good to have one

u know ur a gaper if u use it in the park as a head cam

it just doesnt look good.....id say pow for head cam but i have a pole mount for the pakr

There are sooo many at Loon now. 5 Gnar pts everytime you spot a Go Pro.

The camera takes sick time lapses, you can take it diving, sky diving, skiing or practically anywhere.

99% of the people using one aren't making edits to post on the internet. They're just taking video for themselves and to share with family.

Go Pro makes a sick product, everyone should have one!

i hear ya dude i was one of the first back in 09 like yourself. Ive come to realize all the gopro edits look the same and its starting to get old. either the skiing is good or it sucks.

this is the most retarded thing i've ever heard. i ski alone, so i'm going to use a pole mount to film myself shredding. genius.

and to the OP: who cares? if people want to spend the money, let them spend it. don't be so fucking self-righteous because you're one of the original go-pro users. get over yourself, there is no bench-mark for skill. fuck off.

this. i really want one. but i agree they look bad for park but my friend uses his more on a pole than on his helmet

the camera looks a little goofy, but that's the price i'm willing to pay to get sick POV shots. if all kids are worried about is how a camera looks on you, and not the sick footage they get, they need to reevaluate their priorities.

i noticed the same thing, so many joeys have them and i even saw them being sold in the local shops, but i dont think that there is a level where u can have one or u cant.

You hit it on the head there bro^

Are you saying you've never had a laugh at the kid hitting boxes straight with the go pro? Im not telling him to get out but isn't it getting a little outrageous with like 70% of kids filming their shit?

i felt the same way when i bought it. (i planned on using it on my car and surfing too) but i didnt think i was good enough to rock it skiing and would feel dumb wearing it when other people are so much better than me...

But then i realized 1. Why would i give a f*ck what anyone thinks. 2. Its for ME, im not trying to make a edit to impress anyone i wanted to do it for myself.

To each their own, i dont see whats wrong with someone trying to capture them having FUN, which is what skiing is about.

Saying someone shouldnt be taking vids of themselves if there not doing crazy sh*t just sounds retarded.

yup i agree with everything u said. I could give a sh*t less what the OP or anyone with that attitude thinks

Why the fuck do you care what someone else is doing with their go pro? What difference does it make to you, and in what possible way does a camera on someone else's head affect you in any manner?

I think that if you're seriously that concerned about what other people are doing on the hill, you should probably re-evaluate the reasons that you ski in the first place.

Let me reiterate the initial post^

Let's not pretend that we ski in parks without egos, ride lifts with out swagger and throw tricks without style. We skiers (and riders) carry an arrogant and judgmental aura. Simply spending $200 dollars on a goggles is a prime example, though i can't claim innocent. I originally bought the Go Pro for surfing and to those of you who say that people will not judge just try paddling out in a crowded line up to see how many dirty looks you won't get and how much trash won't be talked. For some reason lots of people hate them. Don't pretend that the hill is a judgment free place. We're not at planet fitness.

Yeah, we all ski and try to ski our best and with the most style possible...but I don't understand why you think it's necessary to "judge" others in order to appreciate your own riding. And you're wrong, not all of us riders "carry an arrogant and judgmental aura". The only riders that have an attitude like that are the ones that aren't satisfied with their own riding.

If I see an inexpierenced rider on the hill with expensive ass gear and goPro, it doesn't effect me in the least. Good for that kid, he's probably having a blast.

Here's the way I see it. The only time I get ticked off on the hill is when I get snaked repeated or the mountain is so damn crowded you can't ski park with flow. Same thing as surfing, the problems only start when people get in the way.

You have your reasons for riding, I have mine. For me, any day that I actually get to be out on the hill is a prize and nothing can stop me from having a good time...rain, wind, whatever it is. And the last thing on my mind is what some kid I don't know has on his helmet or is wearing, etc. I'm out there to ride, and my riding is the only thing I care about.

It sounds like your reasons for riding are different. Sorta sounds like think of the hill as "not a judgment free zone" because you need to judge others to feel better about your self and your riding.

A piece of advice: To those who ride best and have the most fun, the hill is the ultimate judgment free zone.

the best way you can remedy this is simply to say, "fuck the haters". those surfers out the in the line are doing the same thing that you're doing to these "joeys" that aren't good enough to do what they like out on the hill. if you care so much about what other people think of you, you truly need to re-analyze your outlook on life. in life, you're going to piss people off. you're always going to rub people the wrong way, or people may not like for literally no reason. these "joeys" don't care what people think of them, and if they do, you're truly destroying their confidence. is that what this community is for? absolutely not.

not when u alone you tard! but really who wants to see you do a couple of rail slides and 360s with a helmet cam! and flips iv done them with the helmet cam.....they look like nothing unless you do a huge slow flip....why would you ski alone in the park anyway! if i see people in the park with a head cam.....gayper...but thats just me

ahhh shit i'm definitely a gaper, then, considering you say i am. i ski alone because i don't know someone at every fucking mountain on the east coast. also, i don't want to ski with fucking goons like you at wachusett who care so much about someone using a helmet cam. god forbid i feel like making a POV edit, which was really the original purpose of a helmet cam.

I didn't read through all the responses, but you must be extremely dumb. Do you realize that the more Gopros they can sell, the more money the company makes? This makes for better Gopros in the future.

In order to stay competitive a company needs money. Where do you think that money comes from? It comes from the sales they make... Therefore its a good thing that we all see a lot of gopros everywhere. Gopro will likely be the most competitive of the pov cameras because they have the mose money to spend. So why should we care if there are gapers using these cameras? I'm sure that they have a great time watching all the footage they capture. Isn't that the reason we ski, to have fun?

everyone likes to see themselves ski regardless of skill. This is accomplished through the use of a camera. the go pro is a camera, douche bag.

This is directed to you and the OP and anyone else who thinks along the lines that you two do:

1. I want to see my railslides, 360's, etc. And I want to show them to my girl, my parents, my coworkers and other people in my life that hear me talking about skiing all the time so that they can better understand why I'm as obsessed as I am. It's unfortunate but not surprising that you don't have people in your life that care about what you do and want to see what it's like. GoPro is the perfect way to show these people what you've been talking about all the time.

2. Why would I ski alone? Because I fucking love skiing and I want to ski no matter what, alone or with all my friends...whatever it may be. On the days I go without my friends I'm not interested in meeting and riding with loser ass immature 14 year old kids like yourself that double my lap time.

Again: to you and the OP and anyone else that feels the need to hate, I'd seriously reconsider the reasons you come to the hill in the first place.

And by the way, if you see me in the park with my GoPro on, feel free to come up to me and call me a gayper, but I'm willing to bet I can out ski you on any feature, any day.

OP isn't hating. He was over my house last night and was wondering how this turned into such a big fuck fest of arguing. In my opinion this thread was created so he could get a baseline of the level of stuff he would have to incorporate into an edit so it wouldn't get ripped apart by kids calling him a pussy because none of his footage includes him throwing a double at Chad's. YaknowwhatImean?

Seriously.

I'm definitely mounting one to my kid when I have children. Im pretty much over people calling everyone else a "gaper." Instead of hating on them (and this isnt directed at the quoted reply), you should go over and thank them for supporting the local ski hill, aprés ski bar, shop, restaurants, and in general, town economies.

Seriously. my father purchased one and uses it when he skis. He doesn't do tricks. But he also uses it on his motorcycle and anything else he wants to film. Gopros aren't just for skiing and even if they are being used for that you dont have to be in the park.

ok man i see your point but i still dont think it is really all that cool looking from a head cam in the park! if you want to see yourself ski why not make something like that edit you made (which was pretty dope not gunna lie) but in the park it just idk.....no me......and yeah im crazy obsessed and talk to my friends about it all the time....and im not hating im just saying it looks dumb in the park....and i think we both need to relax a little its just a camera..and i have one too....

and by the idk how old u are but im 15 and can do most of that and i havnt been to windels or w.e, good sir.....but anyway +k because i see where your coming from...so just making this clear im not hating on you or anyone with a gopro

it's not about looking good, it's about functionality. i can't make an edit while skiing by myself, unless i have the camera mounted on my helmet. if i cared about how i looked with my helmet cam on, i wouldn't have bought it. not everything in skiing is style over functionality, realize that.

omg IM saying that it looks dumb wearing it, the footage doesnt look good in the park when its on your head.....I realize that not everything is about style....

alright to much ranting in this tjread cuz everyone is just arguing.......soo o im ssorru iif i got any of you mad yickes!

have you watched any legitimate POV edits? good lord, you don't make sense. i'll direct you to some...

at the one minute mark...

see how the majority of the video isnt POV! and the 2nd one it doesnt look like anything more than a rail slide or a big spin....YES it is cool to see the point of view but you cant really see the style of the rider and sometimes you cant really even tell what kind of trick it is!

RELAX ok its just my opinion everyone just take it easy! we are all having fun here!

you said the footage doesn't look good. i directed you to two edits where FOOTAGE filmed from a GOPRO mounted on a HELMET looked GOOD.
