This is a good idea. Batteries dont drain faster in the cold. You will find that if you warm up the batteries they will work again. Its just in the cold the molecules slow down in the battery causing it to stop quicker but if you warm up the batteries the molecules in it get excited and work more. This happens with Ipods and cell phones too...So just keep the batteries warm and they will last longer. Also, storing them in your refridgerator will make their life span alot longer just make sure they are warm when you use them. (Chemistry is my thing)
