Football is extremely overrated

lol you just compared football to chess... That, my friend, just invalidated anything you are going to say.Anyhow, I like playing football casually with my friends and I hate playing soccer and watching soccer. I am not a fan of Professional football and the attention and money involved, it's almost as bad as the nhl lockout. I just think that how america views and treats professional athletes vs. other occupations (military, scientific researchers, etc.) is completely inverted. My point is this: the amount of money and the amount of attention athletes are getting (such as football players) is so out of wack, when compared to our soldiers pay and our scientific researchers attention and pay. The fact the football is boring to watch and is repetitive, which i think is completely true, is just a side note, i think families and friends are further head spending time being active and engaged with one another and doing stupid shit together, respectively, than yelling at a tv screen for "their" team. It's a strange thing we do, that I think is very wasteful of life. Life is to short. I don't know i am getting off track haha i am to tired for this argument and i gotta study for my midterms tomorrow.... ;)
 
ANY sport is repetitive as fuck. and freeski xgames for example have to be equally boring to watch. i am at the freestyle.ch pretty much every year and while its fun to see everything up close, i can see how someone thinks its boring. yeah, a dub cork 12, another dub cork 12, ok, a dub cork 10 and so fucking on. it was even worse when switch 10s were the tricks to win.

you can make the case that a lot of athletes in a lot of sports are overpaid. in the NFL, a few hundred make a solid living, but think about the average career-length, its like 3-4 years or so. the average player hardly earns over 500,000/year i would say. so you make on average 2 millions or so, but sacrificed your childhood and the possibility to qualify for another job and most importantly, your health. tough to set a number for that.

i am from europe and just happen to like football (also like soccer). got into it through madden and play for the second team of one of the best teams in europe. watch every sunday (tough sometimes with the time zones, but whatever) and its just a fun game to watch and play. its in a lot of ways much more entertaining than other sports and thats why so much money is in that biz. although i almost hate the overcompetitiveness when you play for yourself. like everyone on your team and the other team wants to be a big pumped up dude and acts like theyre the shit.

How is this even a comparison or argument? The government doesn't write the paychecks for athletes, the private sector does. The NFL makes a shit ton of money off of ticket sales, advertisements, gear, etc.

What do you want us to do? Tailgate to drone strikes?

They just really can't be compared, it's ridiculous.
 
Watching football every Sunday with my Dad, Mom, Husband, Brother and Niece is probably the least wasteful part of my week during football season. You know what's a waste of life? The 40 hours I spend sitting behind a desk.

I feel bad for you. Because when Marshawn Lynch ran that drive against the Saints in the playoffs at Qwest field, and the cheers in the stadium were so loud that they registered on the seismic meter as an earthquake, I was there with my entire family, and I will never forget the moment when I hugged my Dad and high-fived my Mom after that play.

Yup- shit just got real.

 
So real! Wow, your life is great, congrats you have done so much and gained so much through attending that game, due to Lynch's drive you are successful! And yeah, schools a waster of time, we should all go watch football games all day instead. You go girl!

Ahh, so when you were in school you didn't pay attention and wanted to go to watch football all day, and then since you didn't pay attention, you ended up getting a job that you don't like, sitting behind a desk for 40 hours a week, twas the circle of life. Or, no, that can't be, since life is football.
 
The sport of football isn't overrated, but the culture surrounding it is. I cannot understand how people can sit on their asses all Sunday and watch football. Go outside and get some fresh air fuck. Gar Americans are fucking lazy and football is one of the things that I associate with the laziness in our nation.

Call me crazy but watching the broncos/ravens and the seahawks/falcons games this weekend could have made a fan put of anyone. Some games aren't as exciting as others, but those that are are more suspenseful and exciting than any movie imo.

Watching football is more of a hobby for me, just like reading and skiing. I like watching plays develop and the strategy that goes into each one. The athleticism that players show off is amazing! Guys like AP and payton are just fun to watch. But fuck this thread, makes me mad because of all the narrow minded people.
 
It's sad when you go through a town in bumfuck america where there's a sign when you enter that says 1984 state champions. One of those towns where there's nothing else to do but cling to that.

At the same time though we love it because we're a part of it. If I was a bird watcher I would probably be going nuts watching every nat geo special on birds( I love coming up with HORRIBLE examples) but I doubt the average football fan has the least bit of athletic ability. They don't like it because they participate in it, they just like it. Hell a lot of people like it just because you're supposed to like it.
