yeah, except that freeskiing literally exists in opposition to contest skiing. It started because people were sick of the rigidity and extraneous bs that surrounded freestyle. So, technically you're right, there wouldn't be freeskiing without contests....because freeskiing wouldn't have had anything to free itself from.
What you meant to say, is that there wouldn't be an industry, pros and corporate funding if not for contests, but you're full on stupid if you don't think people like myself and thousands of others would be looking for new ways to have fun on skis if contests didn't exist.
It IS hypocritical to yell about the free in freeskiing if you're then telling people what freeskiing is or isn't, but you're guilty of twisting the argument. Most people won't say that spinning a lot is inherently wrong or "isn't freeskiing", they'll say that spinning as much as possible and looking to add a 180 to a trick is a pretty limited and narrow minded way to look at progression, and that the obsession with "progression" and out spinning the next guy has changed the sport, arguably for the worse.
