Well Willem, I just don't like the mentality that the Olympics and other hardcore comp skiing produces, basically people treating skiing like some kind of jock sport. Sure, I enjoy watching the X games and other comps, but I am not a fan of the style that competitions breed, although I love watching how Phil, Henrik, and Wallisch interpret comp skiing, But I really don't care for "bringing more viewers to our sport." Save the pow for me, I don't want any more people to be "into" skiing. That seems to be a big part of the stoke about the new events in the Olympics, that it will bring more fans and consumers and money into skiing. I just don't want that. And it is drawing focus away from films. I'll be honest, I think ski movies suck a lot more now than they did a few years ago. Stept is probably the only company holding it down with legit movies. (i would say the same for 4bi9 but not too sure if they still make movies...)
Whatever, bottom line is most of you don't know Tanner, he's the fuckin man and he's as real as it gets. And he's produced some of the greatest film segments of all time. Whether or not he's clownin on these kids, I can't believe some of the hate you know-nothings are spitting out towards him.
Once again, you all should read the Jaded Local in the November issue of Powder mag. It's the best commentary on skiing I've read in years.
