First Look at Sochi Slope Course

Ok, so Shaun has dropped out. Are Team USA flying Kyle Mack out today? There's still time and Kyle Mack has two different axis triples (Triple Front Rodeo 14 and Back Triple 14)
 
ALL OF THEM IT WAS A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT FROM FIS TO COMPETE IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES. AT LEAST 2 TRIPLES AND DOUBLES ALL FOUR WAYS.
 
dude there is absolutely not time for him to fly out lol. Qualifiers are tomorrow, on the other side of thw world, vacant seats to Sochi are virtually non existent, and the guy has had 0 practice.

Since most people in the media are gapers, and gapers think rail lips are jumps, i now understand all this talk about horgmo getting hurt because the jumps are so dangerous...
 
I would agree, bummed he got hurt, but it was not caused by bad course design.

It does seem like it is a really short steep in run to those first rails which could kinda suck for setting up on the first hit.
 
I know it seems like a lame question but as there's only 3 jumps I can see the winning run having two triples.

Tom was the only one I could think of but I could have easily forgotten or missed some one else.

Now we have all seen the course who do you guys think will get on the podium? I have some money on Gus & Henrik but it's hard to call.
 
Lol Its hilarious now that every major media outlet covering olympic skiing/ snowboarding is picking up this story about how dangerous this course is. We know its going to be a topic of discussion in the mainstream commentary.

What they dont realize is that this is completely commonplace in the sport. Ya the jumps are big, and the rails are tight. But Thats how you add some difficulty and seperate the competition in slopestyle,.

Shaun White pulls out of slope to focus on halfpipe?

Someone gets injured on a routine trick in practice before they properly warmed up?

We have heard these stories before.

 
But seriously. Once people have started training on the jumps it is ridiculous (to say the least) that they would completely reshape them. Those who weren't happy with the setup should just deal with it and work hard over the next week to adapt, not complain and ruin it for everyone who was happy with the setup.
 
Judging by that POV, I think triples could be possible on all 3 jumps. If not certainly the bottom two. Really wouldn't surprise me if the snowboarders are doing 3 triples.
 
Apparently Billy has thrown 2 triples on the Sochi course in practice - looking forward to tomorrow - he's up first - be sick if a Brit nails the first ever slopestyle run in Olympic history and throws a huge triple on the bottom.

 
tbh im avoiding all coverage from the major media outlets on freeskiing. I get they have no idea what this sport is, but sometimes they are just over the top with ignorance. love how they are saying the courses are too extreme and shit. like are you kidding me? you're not gonna look at skeleton/luge/bobsled and say that shits fucking nuts?
 
he's not the only one, max parrot did back to back triples at, apparently he wants to do 3 for the olympics.

Can't wait to see what's gonna go down. The only thing with snowboarding is if they all go balls out and dont land, it's gonna suck sort of like x games final where almost everybody fell and you have to take into acount that there are only 2 runs so, you can't fuck up to much.
 
In the video with the snowboarder doing the course, the rails come at you so quick. It looked like he didn't have time for the rollercoaster/rainbow thing or whatever we're calling it. Also the bonk on the russian doll thing is hilarious.
 
They start Thursday which its 6 am Thursday in Sochi and the open ceremony is friday
 
Why do snowboarders get Qualifiers + Semis + Finals in their events and skiing only gets Qualifiers + Finals?

seems like its because they don't want to eliminate anyone before the olympics has officially began. Which brings up the question of why not just wait to have a qualifier before the opening then?

My guess is that its somewhat of a marketing thing to get more events into the news early on.
 
I would agree - except pipe is the same situation.. maybe snowboard has more competitors since snowboard teams didn't have to allocate spots to moguls/aeriels?

go to www.hola.org and install the add on for firefox and chrome. you can then choose the country you want to appear from, in this case being canada. its quite simple, just click like two buttons

then go to the CBC website and everything should work fine. im not sure if it is just me but it was buffering very frequently and there were heaps of fucking mcdonalds ads, some would come up like in the middle of a run.

ive got a feeling its because its registering as a new unique connection (as everytime it connects to your computer you would display a new ip) and therefore has to show you the two ads again. although im not sure.
