I pay 2,38€ a roll and get it developed by Fuji themselves. Pretty awesome.

Toronto lost its last e6 lab end of June. Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver all still have e6 labs though.

Sacramento has two labs, and the Bay Area has like 6 or 7 labs that do E6. I'm chillin... (even though I rarely shoot slides anymore)

what's the best way to keep dust off of negatives? do you guys brush them with an antistatic brush or blow air on them or what? i'm not sure if i'm getting them back from the lab with dust already on them or if i'm doing it in the short time that i transfer the negatives from the bag to scanner. maybe my scanner itself is dusty?

All of the above

What I do is when I get a roll back I leave them in the protective sleeve, cut the sleeve into strips and flatten them in a big dictionary. Once they are flat enough I quickly put them into the neg holder and since they are flat this goes really quick so there is less dust. In my free hand I spray the scanner and film with canned air. Quickly close the scanner. Scan. Spot healing brush the rest

I don't even care anymore and just throw my negatives around in my dusty room.

Spot healing is quicker and works better then frantically trying to blow dust off.

i just bought my girlfriend an Olympus 35-SP, the only rangefinder I could find that has full auto and full manual, though the manual exposure method is a little janky. Should be fun to use sometimes though, as my other rangefinders are shutter priority and aperture priority with no manual option.

Shit got bigger.

Someone at my moms work found 6 rolls of '97 expired Fuji Super G 400 lying around and passed them on to me. Not sure what to expect with them but expired (especially free) film is always fun.

Shoot it at 100 and it will be fine.

This. Generally, if I'm shooting something that's expired, I'll just pull the film a stop or two. Loss of some contrast, but you'll usually retain the same colour detail.

Interesting, did not know this

It definitely depends on the film, but it's a safe bet with most colour print film. There definitely are some that are a lost cause, and the older the film the less it will help, but having shot a bunch of expired colour print film over the last few months after picking up a batch, I have to say, it definitely has helped retain the look a bit. Gives the image the look of being in a dusty room, sorta. I'll have to post samples when I get a chance to finally scan all this shit.

...the italian guy at my lab shakes his head at me every time I bring in old film to be developed it's great.

I just got two rolls back and I'm really happy with how they turned out. I love film more and more every time I shoot a roll. Tri X and Velvia 100 on my Fed 3

sorry for the dump, I'm pretty happy with most of these!

Don't really know how to start this off but basically I have just a standard point and shoot (minolta riva 100AF) cause I'm still a beginner at all of this. Anyway, I put a roll of film into the camera and all is good, then when I take a photo the dial (the one on top that shows how many photos you have taken) doesn't move BUT, the roll of film rolls through for about 3 seconds then stops.

I don't think It's actually taking any photos and I'm just waiting an entire roll of film. I had this problem with the first roll of film I bought and then it fixed itself for the second roll but now it's happening again.

What does this mean? How do I fix it? I need help.

oh and sorry if this didn't make sense I didn't really know how to word it and I was in a rush.

ty :)

So wait, this happens only when you put film in the camera, or what? Could it possibly be just advancing the film at the start of your roll in order to have it better loaded onto the spool?

Either way, sounds like you might want to invest in a camera that works well before perhaps wasting another roll of film that's worth at least 3 of those cameras.

Yea it only happens when I try to take a photo so yea there has to be film in the camera.

But yea I have been planning on investing in a better camera anyway so yea, I would like to try and fix this problem though.

I meant like, right when you put it into the camera to load it... and then close it up...

if it's right then, and only then... it's the camera taking shots in order to advance the film for you. If not, then it's broken and useless and I'm sorry, check your local goodwill.

Alright thanks for the help dude :)

I finally got my 4x5 scans back and I'm really really pleased with them. This one has some fall off on it but I'm not even mad. I'm just glad I got an image! For some reason the other image scan file won't open but eventually I'll figure that out and post it too.

That looks a lot like a light leak in the development container to me. How did you develop these?

Actually, I payed Reed Photo in Denver to do them. Is it possible that it could've been a leak while loading or unloading or is it pretty obviously their fault? I payed pretty good money for these scans and I'm a little upset that one file won't even open and that I could have a light leak in the other.

This looks a thread for film camera talk in specific..? So I figured I'd post here instead of taking crao for making a New thread.

Anywayyyy

I'm taking a road trip this summer Nd I wanna take some pics with an oldschool film camera. I really like the way old photos look. I'm not a photographer by any means but just wanna document parts of the trip both with film and digitally. I'm planning on taking my dad's Canon t2i. But any recs for a cheap film camera to buy?

Or know of anyone selling?

Thrift stores! just keep looking until you find one that's fully manual. I've found old olympus, nikon, minolta and canon cameras plenty in my days of thrifting, minolta being the most common.

Any 5$ metal box with a shutter and a nifty fifty will do. Or you can buy one from me.

Alright I have a Pentax K1000 and Argus C3, I am shooting with Ultramax 400 on both of them and get my film developed from a pharmacy, as soon as I finish these rolls I plan on loading tri x in to both of them.

So basically I have no idea if I should get a 35mm scanner so I can do it the legit way and just get the negatives developed from the pharmacy if that is possible or just continue to get my stupid CDs.

Thanks! What do you have for sale?

Anything really, but first check your local thrift shop, shipping to the US costs money. I can offer you a Minolta X-300 which is a great beginner metal bodied film slr with a meter and nifty fifty for an amount disclosable per PM with personal guarantee that it works, flawlessly. It's also quite a bit cheaper then it's CaNikon peers.

But first check your thrift shop, then come to me.

It depends on how much film you shoot, how good the scans are at your local lab etc..

One roll a month, pics on FB > lab scan.

If you solely plan to shoot 35mm film get a Plustek, they are slow but quality and have beyond excellent tech support.

If you plan too shoot other formats besides 35mm: Epson V600/700/???

If you shoot dickloads: Pakon.

^ I was originally planning on getting a plustek, but when I started getting into medium format I got a v600 instead. It's not as much of a pain in the ass as people say for 35mm (or 120)

'Pain the ass' is just relative to how much you shoot. Trying to scan 10-20+ rolls at a time is a PITA, one or two rolls a month not as much.

Stupid question but how do you guys store your film? Do you freeze/refrigerate it and if so, are there any precautions you take when doing so?

Almost all my film is in the fridge, just lob it in with a decent aesthetic parabolic trajectory.
