Festival talk

bummed cause it looks like I won't be making it to peach fest since my friend probably can't take the days off. he's been trying to convince me to do magnaball instead if he can make it.

I've never been to a phish show so that's a whole lot of phish to take in for my first time. I think I'd prefer a regular festival where I could see a wide variety of performers, but then again, getting so many sets of phish could be awesome

Go. GOOOO! Phish is incredible. I'd rather go to a festival with just them than a variety every time. Their festivals are fully run by them and usually showcase art in addition (and combination! check out the secret sets from previous fests) to the music. If you have any questions or want some examples of jams you'd like based on your taste let me know!

Oh, and I'll be there. With plenty of goodies.

Going to this tomorrow and the next night at jay peak
https://www.facebook.com/events/870383183003704/

only 65 for 2 days. Gonna see some old friends and rage. DSO and other bands

Holy fuck was that a good time. People missed out.

Could not have spent my money any better. Great weather, awesome music, and the best people. Stayed with some friends 2 miles from the base area. Had a bonfire and were grillin and chillin at the show.

Brought a drumset, grill, guitar, hand drums, and other stuff in the back of an old pickup.

Go check that venue out

I've been watching some videos from the last super ball and I'm pretty convinced it'd be a great time. I like the idea of live music all day from like noon - 3am like a regular festival, but I'm sure there'd be enough ways to stay occupied at magnaball. I also feel like I should take advantage while it's within driving distance since I missed my chance to see them at MSG on NYE

will keep you posted if I end up buying a ticket

I honestly like not having music all the time. There's nothing happening on the stage so you don't have to worry about missing anything while you're chillin in the campgrounds. Also everyone is there for phish, everyone catches the phish sets, which is pretty rad.

It'll be a good time for sure.

Yea true I hear that. at all good I had no problem chillin at camp all day and not heading to the stage until later. like you said there were some bands I wish I got to see tho, so I wouldn't have that issue at magnaball.

I think I'm fully convinced. just gotta make sure I can get the days off

It's crazy that it's been 4 years since the last phish fest. Also you never know when they'll stop doing them. Hopefully never. We'll see how this one sells.

Anybody going to IleSoniq in mid-August? I'll be coming in from Toronto, looking to be an unreal weekend.

I'm heading up for saturday only, I saw jack ü there at the same venue a couple weeks ago and it was great. Should be a good time.

Backwoods Pondfest next weekend and I am stoked!! It looks like it is going to be a real chill festival!

Backwoods-Pondfest-2015-397x500.jpg

I'll be across champlain those days in burlington but check out The Heavy Pets if you go. Those guys are my boys. Happy to see them on there but I had tickets to burlington a long time out and it doesn't make sense to drive to hit both in one night.

Sophistaphunk are a lot of fun. PPP are pretty solid.

word up man will do! I amped to see particle for the first time and mister f. I have been jamming to PPPP since I saw them last Chill - great funky jams!

I highly considered the VT run but so pricey compared to a weekend at backwoods. Enjoy the shows! I will be seeing moe., twiddle and maybe some of you at Chill!

Missed them on the lineup somehow lol. Yeah particle is awesome. Mister F is the shit as well. Def go see mister F. Them's my boys as well. Make sure you heckle the keyboard player. Make fun of his hair or something. (Don't really unless you say I told you to lolz)

Mister F is going places. Great bunch of dudes.

Just got back from FloydFest in Floyd, VA and man it was a good time. Lots of bluegrass and folk with a couple more indie acts thrown in like Lord Huron and First Aid Kit who were definitely highlights. Also Greensky Bluegrass, Sister Sparrow and Chamomile & Whisky destroyed it. Beautiful grounds and camping sites in the woods, and just an absolutely incredible vibe all around. Would recommend to anyone who wants to feel what a festival should feel like. Definitely made some foggy memories that will last a long time.

I really like these guys. Saw them at the den about a month ago, they're really tight and their sound is unique and super dancey. I kinda was left hoping for some more noise/jam/volume, but their performance was on point. Definitely gonna add them to the rotation and look forward to their future.

Shambhala just a few days away, oh yeah. My trailer and booze is already parked on the farm, just started my month of summer vacation, getting pumped to let loose and get my dance on. Shambhala has quickly turned into the only festival (rave, whatever) I attend annually. It's become a reunion of sorts of me, what with it being just a 20min drive down the road from my house and friends from all over BC coming to get together and party.

If you're gonna be there, maybe we will randomly share a dance, or a @#$% in the shadows. Lets party!!!!!!

Anyone going to peach see the schedule yet? just come out today...pretty savage. Little bit of overlap but overall should be a great time

Went to the poconos to see Rebelution when they played with Sublime w/ Rome on Saturday. had a good time and enjoyed the show as always, but found myself fiending a jam anytime there was a solo or buildup haha. kept feeling like something awesome could come out of it but then it was back to the chorus or verse.

All the shows I've been to in the last year or more have pretty much been jam bands and music I don't know well, so it was also kind of weird to know all the words and sing to every song again. Don't mean for any of this to sound negative, I'm 100% still a fan of Rebelution and non-jam music, it's just interesting how different it all felt compared to the last time I saw them.

I hear that for sure! I enjoy Rebelution as well but I am pretty sure they played identical sets the two times I saw them. Great sing alongs but lacking the improv jams or funky riffs.

I saw John Butler Trio twice in a week in 2011. Same setlist, even the same jokes. Somebody forgot to tell him that dirty hippies go to multiple shows Was goo to catch a couple songs this year at Scamp.

Missed moe. in hampton nh last night, was still in ohio driving back from phish tour. Hittng burling ton tonight and tomorrow, maybe pondfest late night, then asbury park, then phish tour till the end

Backwoods Pondfest was an amazing time! The smaller festivals is where it is at! Great vibes, great music and an awesome location! The car camping free-for-all was tits. Also, it was byob even at the stages and you could have campfires. You could truly do whatever the fuck you wanted. Great times.

Particle was the set of the weekend. Lucid and Pigeons were awesome too. Some naked dude was chilling in the crowd during pigeons and when security confronted him he decided to jump on stage and knock over some lights and drum pad. Must be bathsalts to want to ruin a great set of music. The lead singer of pigeons kept improving funny lyrics about the situation. Since it was a smaller festival the video may not even surface

Was just at Outside Lands, pretty fun from a mainstream perspective and some of the electronic acts that brought instruments could jam, also a great venue overall. Heading back to the east for Magnaball and excited as hell. Does anyone know if there are any supporting acts playing?

Fuck Shambhala is awesome. Last year they sold a few too many tickets and the stages were always full for any big names, so this year they expanded the Fractal and Pagoda dance floors, and sold less tickets. Pretty much the only big scale rave I can think of that isn't corporate and is all about the vibes.

If you care about electronic music at all, YOU NEED TO COME HERE! I know I have a bias opinion because it's pretty much in my backyard, but shit man. Gets better every year. Only big room mainstage (aka - bullshit mainstream garbage) set I heard all weekend was Kygo - besides that it was all different genre's of bass music that killed it.

More mind blowingly good sets than you can shake a K'd out raver at. Jazzy Jeff was a let down for me, but some folk I talked to liked it enough. Mix Master Mike killed it, Griz killed it, after hating on his DJ skills Pretty Lights put me in his place and won set of the weekend in my books (I was only supposed to be there for 20min before going to AC Slater and next thing you know 1.5 hours had gone by and he made everyone his bitch). Tipper needs to get over himself, and people really need to stop doing GHB - it's not a party drug. Can't wait till next year!!!!!

Mysteryland is another big scale rave that is more vibes than corporate. It is an amazing time and camping on the holy ground (woodstock)

And people doing GHB is odd as fuck, but I have heard a comedian talk about it. Apparently if you just do a drop or two you get a permanent smile. However, if you mix any alcohol with it, you black out. Sounds like a bad idea for festys.

If Mysteryland isn't corporately backed why does it have logos for T Mobile and Mastercard on their website. Shambhala is held on a private farm, owned by a family, with zero corporate backing - with almost all profits going back into the local community.

ML has great vibes but it is corporate as fuck. Last weekend, Louie and I were at Backwoods Pondfest and wow, they know exactly what they are doing. They didn't even sell beer so talk about not being about money. Everywhere was clean for the most part, hardly any trash on the ground. We didn't see one cop on the drive in or out. You can have your own fire. Never a pat down. And I'd say its close to a 1000 people, if not, a little more.

The only non corporate thing about ML is the amount of underground artist but if they could of got Bassnectar and PL, they would of 100%.

Forgot to mention that ML is talking about changing their weekend so they are not on the same weekend as EDCNY (Actually in Dirty Jersey). Talk about being all about money...

hey, I didnt say no corporate. I meant it ran off vibes more. As in they book who they want and have multiple stages with legit techno. As opposed to edc which seems to be mainly big stage.

Techno is the best. The last set of the weekend last weekend at Backwoods was Scroll, a techno DJ and there was literally 6 of us there shuffling. Granted it was last set of the weekend at 3am Sunday Morning but still, so great to dance to, I'm surprised not more people gave it a shot. Plus we were in the North Country of NY which plays a big part in that. A guy turned to me and said "If we were an hour north in Montreal right now, this guy would be crushing it!"

:) as much as I'm enjoying all the shows I've been to, I desperately need a club night in my life. I get severe fomo pretty much every weekend when there's awesome parties so close in BK/NYC.

Anyway, found these 2 vids the other day from Theivery Corporation's set at All Good. Really enjoyed their set and the mist-like rain that was making the lights even cooler

I think Backwoods will be fine at least. Professionally ran and a lot of loyal fans. Plus I talked to a bunch of people saying it was their first time there and loved it. I don't think many more tents or cars could have fit in the fields!

I was talkin about Phish at Watkins Glen.

I LOVE Nascar and F1 I couldn't go to SUperball in 2011 so I can't miss it since it might be the last one there!

Im glad ya enjoyed Backwoods though looked sick reminds me of my favorite festival north of Utica Secluded Forest from back 10 or so years ago but that festival was sketch AF because of the bikers who owned the venue they were running kids shit left and right and not surprisingly got it shut down.

I forgot I bought tickets to this a couple months ago and this was probably the best surprise I've had in years. This schedule is out of this world. Just listened to Ott's new album and it's pretty good, and I've been dying to see space jesus again.

AC Slater was incredible, you defs missed a treat on that one. Bought tickets because of the dirtybird night, they didn't disappoint -- so much HAUS.

fuuuucccckkkk this is the third year in a row just about every friend i know has gone to Sham and i've missed it. next year is my year though....so stoked to get those international travel privileges back! haha

PL definitely is a surprise favorite, you'd be hard pressed to find me there with a lineup as stacked as this was but he definitely knows how to pick tracks to fit the crowd. did you happen to catch Bleep Bloop or G Jones? so many of my friends raving about those sets. also how can you bash on Tipper?!

and GHB just gets an awful rep because people are abusing the shit out of it in the entirely wrong context. (plus the whole date-rape thing) when used intelligently after a night of heavy partying it's the perfect way to easy your way back in to normalcy. not to mention you sleep like a gawd damn ROCK which can be pretty clutch if you're sleeping in a poorly set up tent at a music festival...
