Festival talk

We were at Cosmic Alignment this weekend in Saugerties and that was a great time. The smaller fest always have great vibes and everybody is instantly friends. It was my first time seeing Lespecial and consider the source. Both awesome and I can't wait to see again. Space Jesus and Cosmal were fun. All the music was jamming and chill as fuck! And I may have a new found interest in art...

nice! please tell us how that was! Ben and I were thinking of heading there for their monthly full moon gathering but were not sure what to expect. We got to see Alex and Alyson Grey a few months ago for a live podcast taping and I really want to check that place out.

What Lou said. A small intimate festival is where its at. Great vibes all weekend. No cops, no stressing, lack of annoying people, and my list can go on

couldnt agree more. small festivals are the best

Widespread and Umphrey's was fun Saturday. It was only my second time hearing either band play so everything sounded good to me, overheard some other opinions though. My only complaint was that I wish they played longer...music was over before 11

dude I hate when I hear jaded fans complain about the song choices or how the show may not be up to par to what they were expecting. Expectations lead to an experience not living up to what you thought and in turn letting you down. And even when you are enjoying it you can't help but have that negative thought the jaded fan said in the back of your mind. To the point you're almost afraid to admit you like something because the long-time fans are complaining. That happened a few weeks ago for mtn jam. I left that set with the biggest smile on my face and had an amazing time. And of course the next day the jaded moe.rons had nothing nice to say about the show. Of course they enjoyed 90% of the show but just could not drop the negative comments they had about the song selection. For fuck sakes dwell on the parts you liked and show the band how much you appreciate them (directed toward the jaded fans)

Camp Bisco in PA or Camp Barefoot in WV? seriously considering the second one..line up looks great for a smaller festival

hmm that is a tough choice and it depends what you're into more, jam or edm? From and outside point of view and never being to either of these two, it seems barefoot will focus more on the jams. While bisco has too many headliners that I would guess a lot of the jams will be midday. That is my personal feeling which I wouldn't like because I prefer to boogie later in the day and I never gotten into the biscuits. Another thing is bisco is going to be humongous. Which has it's pro/cons. Bisco also has a water park. The ticket page wouldn't load for barefoot but I would guess overall it would be much cheaper to go barefoot. I would choose barefoot. The line up has a lot of the same jambands but also some electronic to rage at night.

I was trying to decide between those too and I ended up settling on bisco just because that was the only camping edm fest I was going to make it to this summer. If you land on bisco hit me up and I'd love to meet you there!

Is anyone going to reconstrvct in Brooklyn on the 4th? I've heard amazing things about reconstrvct events but never actually been to one

that's what I was thinking, I love jam bands but I've never been to anything like Bisco before. I think I'll try for Bisco next year. barefoot looks awesome though!! I'm gonna go for it

Not necessarily a festival but I'll be at CoSM this weekend for the summer solstice gathering and I'm too excited

hey I don't to ask again but in cased you didn't see my last post, how was cosm? I really want to check out an event there but I decided not to last month because I was not sure what to expect.

Nice enjoy! I love jam bands and enjoy edm. I have said this before in this thread but edm actually has aided me in enjoying jam bands. My first edm festival I learned how to rage and dance not nobody is watching. And that is because nobody cares! People are more worried about what they look like than what you're dancing like. It wasn't until Mysteryland that I realized that and learned how to really let loose. In other words, edm is fun for partying and letting go but I prefer raging to some funky jams..

My friend who was driving me bitched out and I ended up not going, this has been the third time I got a ticket for an event there and ended up not going. But if I don't end up going to reconstrvct on the 4th I'm gonna see space jesus at CoSM instead. I don't know if you've heard of him but that's going to be an amazing show and I'd highly recommend that if you're trying to go to CoSM soon

I grew up at festivals so I've been dancing like no one is watching since I could walk!

Louie and I just saw Space Jesus the other night. Awesome and fun set. He has a song dubbed over (proper term?)a Rob Ford speech (the mayor of Toronto that smoked crack) and it was hysterical, magical, and awesome.

fuckkk that sucks! ben and I mentioned the 4th but too many 4th of July activities around our area to leave.. They have full moon parties every month at cosm so I am going to make it a point to visit soon. I 2nd what ben said, Space Jesus was awesome Saturday night in Saugerties!

Small chance I may end up at Bisco if they sell single day tickets. Not really my cup of tea but might have a crew with a place to stay that would be hard to pass up.

Never been to or heard of reconstrvct events. I can recommend the cityfox party though if you're in BK on the 4th and don't go to reconstrvct

I really want to go to Suwanee Hulaween but it's sooo far away.

The line up is absolutely ridiculous and there's a bunch of other amazing October shows and fests in Florida so I'm thinking of taking a camper down there for the month

My only qualm with small fests is the lineups. Sure the community and atmosphere are better but is buying a weekend pass worth getting to see maybe three bands you kind of like? If you're paying for the community that's cool but I'd rather spend my money on a great lineup.

Last weekend, Cosmic Alignment, all of about 300 people. The music was awesome. From Space Jesus to Consider the Source to bands I never heard of like Space Bacon. As long as I can jam and dance along, its good. But seriously, every set was great. And I saw more hours of music combined then I do when I'm at a festival all 3 days because everything was so close together. And when the weekend pass is only 80 bucks...

Those bands that you want to see started somewhere. And that somewhere is small fest. I obviously have nothing against big fest, but Cosmic was a great learning experience. The no-security and everybody chilling was great

semi long shot but is anyone doing DB campout this year? very little information has been announced thus far but Dirtybird is my jam and it happens to fall over my birthday...

Gotta get more involved in your local music scene. If I go to a small fest aross the country I don't rally know any bands but if I go to stuff in my usual raging region there are generally several smaller bands that I like on the lineups. Also the smaller fests are a million times cheaper.

Also catskill chill was like 1,500 the first year, maybe even less. Not a super small festival but that was a pretty damn solid lineup and I think it was like $80.

Honestly never been one of the people that camps out near the stages(like not campsite but chillin) all day. And maybe getting older and lamer but I really don't feel like putting in the effort to see a ton of bands at some of the bigger fests. I actually like going to fests sometimes and not really caring that much about the lineup. It's nice to be an easy up all star sometimes.

Hey everybody I am pretty ignorant on how to find these things out but I am looking for an edm festival that is in July or August that is within a 3 or so hour drive of Vermont (i already know about Osheaga in Montreal but besides that I am clueless)... thanks for the help!

Damn I saw them the day before and the show went from 7-12 or so. Lots of time to dance. Um always delivers.

Widespread can really play but it just isn't my kind of jam. Southern rock like but with heavier guitar, as opposed to say the Allman Bros, whom I love. Not too fond of long drum solos either. Was a fun time though!

Check out jambase.com Not sure if that site is still rolling but they list festivals and you can search for shows/fests within a radius of your location.

Not sure if they really list edm stuff though. There were some jam/edm fests in the LG region in ny which is right over the border.

Autumn nation, jungle boogie, FOE west at west mtn.

I don't really get into Edm at all but look around that region.

Holy shit, best 4 days ever. I had so much fun. The camping, the music, the overall happy vibe that everyone had there was just so great. I'll be back next year.

Anybody go to the Frendly Gathering this weekend?

Just had the best time of my life there. Met so many amazing people and the positivity was off the wall.

Will do and yea I wanted to go this year but it was the weekend before finals and I thought that wouldn't be the best idea. What was your favorite set there?

Griz was the most fun by far. My favorite set was probably Richie Hawtin because prior to ML I didn't understand techno and that set changed the tune of the weekend for me. Besides that I just roamed around and raged to whatever was on. I am not a huge edm guy so I went where my friends wanted to go

Whaaaaaat Richie Hawtin was there? That sounds sick will certainly head over there next year.

yup.. also if that wasn't enough, the festival is held on the grounds of woodstock '69. The vibes are unreal

cool man we should try and meet up if we're both there. I'll know later this week if I'm heading down

I'm down. Still have yet to meet another nser at a fest. I did meet an nser for some shows and have seen each other at fests over the years. I've had peoples numbers but it's never worked out. That said I'm down to try. And can pretty much guarantee I'll be at the moe. set if there.

I'll know after chicago. Was planning on chilling in southern pa for a little bit so all good would be an easy trip from there.

Hopefully it's a little less sketch than the last one I went to 4 years ago.

same dude it would be good to finally meet up with some NSers. I'll be in touch once I buy a ticket and know I'm def going.

just went back to find your post about when you went in 2011... sucks you had a pretty rough experience. really hoping the security/police presence isn't overbearing. not that I even do anything to warrant that kind of attention but it's a vibe killer seeing others get busted

Yeah man it was pretty nuts. I had a great time, saw some great music, ran into lots of friends, ran around the festival naked and puked on myself, and other things.

Also the ferris wheel sounded like a pterodactyl.(PS: Was like fuck how do spell that? but nailed it first try, yes I want a cookie)

New festival grounds but back in WV.

Honestly if I go I'll probably be pretty capable of meeting up. I feel like the movement, the year off, and the lineup will keep things much smaller. I heard there was something like 25-40k in 2011, seems about right honestly. PLace was pretty backed.

Interested to check the new venue. Marvins mountaintop was fucking gorgeous.
