Festival talk

headed down to my friend's place in DC tomorrow then we're on our way to All Good thursday afternoon. PM me if you're going and wanna try to meet up

Oh man this just makes me angry.

Evolve in Nova Scotia decided this year they were going to give out free drug testing kits at the festival. What a fantastic idea. All festivals should do this if they have the spare cash.

Today their insurance company said they're pulling insurance on the festival because of their plan to give out free drug testing kits. So unless something changes by this weekend the festival is cancelled. Because of some fucking dickwad thinking drug test kits are grounds to not insure the festival.

The good ol' USA is the opposite. We like to turn a blind eye to safety to impress some big wig law enforcement in a far away place. Bonaroo and Electric Forest both kicked out the DanceSafe folks. America figures if they ignore the issue, they hold no responsibility and its not really happening. But it is happening, regardless of the rules...

Test kits save lives. Pretending like drugs aren't at the festival kills people. Fuck that insurance company and they're archaic way of thinking. At mysteryland earlier in the year, they were confiscating test kits.... DAFAQ????

2 festivals I wish I could hit: Summerdance in Ohio and Farmfest in 2 weeks in NJ. Both have swimming holes. Summerdance has Lotus x2, The New Deal and Moon Hooch and cliffs to jump off of. Farmfest has Jimkata and the rest is decent plus they just switched locations last minute and now there is a lake to swim in and car camping.

Just thought I'd share haha

I might hit Farmfest to see my boys in Lespecial and The Hornitz who are two of the illest bands around.

Bisco is probably gonna set me back $600 or so. Fuck this summer is gonna be expensive.

Nelson ledges? I never made it out there. Didn't even know they were still doing shows there. That's legit.

I'm debating whether or not I'm going to all good at the moment. IF I had people to travel with I would but even though I have the loot I might sit it out. Idk, gotta decide by like midnight or so.

Maybe getting older and that head injury has me more tired. Just don't feel up to going to everything anymore. Been on the road so much the last month. It's nice to kick it.

Also thinking of trying to get my business plan in action after all good or right now if I don't go. Something I've wanted to do for years so I might just start on it.

you got that right man, sometimes kicking it is the best option of them all! What did you decide? What is the business plan if you do not mind sharing?

I just stayed home. Well I ended up driving to albany for blind owl and yonder at alive at 5 and seeing a ton of the 518 pham I hadn't seen in quite a while so that was nice. I just didn't feel like spending money, and going down there. If I had gone to PA instead of coming to NY I probably would have. But I don't need to go to every fest anymore. I've done plenty, seen plenty of tunes. I think I would have slowed down at some point but my brain has def had an effect on things. Im a lot more tired than I used to be. I really need sleep these days. I did summercamp, it was my first real fest since and it was tough. I had a great time but I was very tired all weekend. Just didn't feel like jumping right back in the car for all good.

Just finally going to be building some rails. Cleaning out my parents garage for them and taking it over for the next couple months to build some stuff here and there.

Something I've wanted to do for a long time. Also would give me the opportunity to donate a few things to some free/non profit ski areas if I can find ones who's insurance will allow for a few smaller features.

Idk, as business oriented as my mind is, this really has nothing to do with $ or success. Just something I've wanted to do for a long time.

Really hoping that I can get some stuff to some ski areas though. I stopped at one I grew up skiing in Indian Lake on the way home a couple days ago. When Oak closed, gore was too far and expensive. My parents would take me up there to ski. Tiny hill, two small trails, and a tbar. Anyway without places like that I wouldn't have been able to ski those years. They didn't have a park then and still don't and who knows if they'd be able to but if there are any places like that that would be, I'd love to donate some stuff to them. Liability, limited insurance, and other things might not let it happen many places but hoping I can pull it off at a few.

If something could be worked out, I would be down to drive up some rink snow in the fall and get a little rail jam maybe a rail jam/movie preview, maybe even add in some live music. I won't be around in the winter so it'd be cool to do something where I can hit em once there when I drop them off lol.

Idk, but something like that. I also think I could give people a better backyard product than whats available for cheaper. Longer, more sturdy, skirted.

Well see what happens.

Went to a local music festival last weekend and caught Jimkata and Donna the Buffalo's sets. Wasnt a big fan of DTB but jimkata's preformance was absolutely off the chain.

If any of you guys get the opportunity to see them live DO IT, theyre so good

yup! Jimkata is awesome! I recommend seeing them whenever somebody is looking for a new band to listen to! Great lyrics, great jams etc...

I have a friend who works at the waterpark where Camp Bisco is being held. Sounds like security is going to be extremely tight.

Employees are going to have to go through same checkpoint as festival goers and he is pretty pissed.

Don't have a ticket yet but I have the days off so I should be there. can't wait

life got in the way. and i wasnt about to drive from nh down to wv by myself. everyone had shit get in the way. i will enjoy it vicariously through you though

Saw Kanye West last night cause he was the only act on.. what a joke. It's actually really bad. I can't believe people spent $70 to watch some egotistical ass-wipe essentially sing auto-tuned karaoke.

finished my volly hours for pemby fest. there was no smoke today cause the wind changed and its currently raining so hopefully it starts pouring a bit. damn fires. site looks pretty similar to last year with the stages. gonna be fucking sick!!

Going to Bisco comes with all the baggage and negatives. Or at least they are going to scare everyone before they arrive.

Less importantly, how was security? Only thing I read on reddit so far about All Good was a few horror stories and a heavy cop presence. But I know how that goes.

Yup, just saw another post on Reddit about it. Can you and anyone confirm it was that bad? Sounds so nuts! But, I have also been to a festival where it was made out to be this bad, but I never witnessed it first hand. This sounds legit though. Here is the reddit post:

I'm posting this in a couple different places, so bear with me if you just saw it posted elsewhere.

I'm going to post a more detailed account of this weekends events when I'm sure I legally can, (an impending legal battle between myself and Axis Security may prevent me from doing so) but I feel the need to warn any festival going friends about the arrestival that is All Good Music Festival. Police/SWAT teams/undercover officers were everywhere, repeatedly jumping and beating the living shit (broken bones, bruises/cuts all over) out of calm, compliant patrons and dragging them to PRISON (not jail) for things as simple as smoking a bowl in their campsite. Heroin ran rampant, which led to at least one death just a few campsites down from my own.

Theft and/or negligence from members of security led to two cases of my wire wraps disappearing. They were confiscated on the way in, (I was provided a receipt to get them back at the end of the festival, and took pictures of both cases as they were being put away in the holding container) and were subsequently "misplaced" at some point in the weekend. It's unclear whether or not these people intend to make this right without being taken to court, but at this point I highly recommend avoiding any festival which employs Axis Security. As I waited in the security tent for them to figure out where my items were, the low level employees did nothing but brag among themselves about how many bags of drugs and other items they pocketed while searching patrons on their way in. The higher level employees met me with aggression, lies, threats, and sleazy runaround tactics to avoid addressing the issue I had with them.

I have contacted both Axis corporate and the police, and am currently waiting to hear back from Axis to see whether or not a lawsuit is in order. Axis, if you're reading this, I'm calling on you publicly to do the right thing and reimburse me for the amount you handed me the receipt for. We can do this the easy way or the hard way, but either way I am not backing down, and I'm not going to roll over and let you steal my livelihood out from under me. End rant.

keep in mind I've only been to one other camping festival (vibes last year) so I don't have much to compare it to. overall, IMO, the music was one of the only real positive aspects from the weekend.

getting in to the festival was no problem, and the car search was minimal. on the main roads before getting to the festival, though, there were tons of cops and a good amount of cars pulled over.

camping was all car camping which was nice, but there was definitely a heavier police presence compared to vibes. at least 3 times a day cops would slowly roll down every row on atv's. didn't witness it myself, but heard reports of undercovers (in their brand new tags-still-on grateful dead shirts) just coming up to camp sites and sitting down. leaving on sunday morning was a mess and cars literally didn't move for about an hour.

searches getting into the stage area were a bit excessive. casused some big backups at points. I always made it through no problem but heard multiple stories of security trying to make deals with people or just straight up taking their stuff.

the concert bowl area was a little underwhelming. there weren't too many vendors, and there was only one shade area and one free water station which was rough considering it felt like it was in the 90's all weekend. there were cops roaming around and I saw a few people getting walked out, but I personally didn't see anyone getting tackled or anything like that.

my thoughts on having the two stages right next to each other- Pros: you could stand in one spot and see and hear both stages clearly and the music barely ever stopped because the next band would just start playing on the other stage. Cons: a second stage set off somewhere else just seems more interesting and could be more intimate. I personally didn't mind having to walk a little to the second stage at vibes to get a change of scenery

as far as the music, moe. and lotus were probably my two favorite sets. the word and the motet were two bands I didn't know going in and really enjoyed their sets too. cake was my least favorite since the guy just talked nonsense most of the time. I heard the people in front of us first saying "give them a chance, they always play a good set," and then within five minutes they were sitting down on their blanket.

if I think of more I'll add but I think I covered most of my thoughts. if nothing else it made me wanna go to peach/lockn'/chill even more now

Dude, you gotta check out chill! Besides the fact the lineup is cereal, they cap the attendance at 5k. At least I think 5k. Somewhere around there. Zero cops on the property and the best vibes around.

Sucks to hear horror stories from All Good, but I've also had blast at a festival and then I get home and realize the internet is blowing up with complaints. That is why I asked how you fared. Moral of the story seems to be avoid West Virginia for festivals. The cops on the ATVs in the camping area is too much for me. What type of vacation in a free country is it if it is a police state? That shit makes people not want to go again. The ATV cops were at Mysteryland, but there I got the feeling it was more for safety. They didn't bust anyone. I have a buddy who is a state trooper and he loved the weekend. Sucked he was working of course, but between the overtime, TITS and positive vibes, he loved it.

What an idiot. I'm sure I would have a lot of fun there but the crowd it attracts is not my cup of tea.

Yeah. The gif was run like hell from bisco on the green last sept. The first link was zoogma at camp bisco yesterday

They should have scaled back the electronic and made the thing small. But what production company doesn't want to sell tickets?

The EDM wave killed camp bisco. I know a lot of people in here like that stuff, it's fine. Hell 10 years ago I used to make shit on FL, and mix eurotrance etc. Listened to all kinds of stuff. Not really hating on music, just that this new wave of EDM really fucked up festivals across the board.

I mean the rave scene was obviously it's own shitstorm. I just hate how music festivals that have a good thing going bring in EDM to sell tickets.

It's a trade off. Sell more tickets, bring in more dumb kids, more bunk drugs, and far more people needing medical treatment/possibly dying. I'm not arguing that people don't get too fucked up everywhere, there aren't fake drugs everywhere but edm bring in the highest concentration.

Young kids with money who are super naive about everything just pay anything, take anything to let loose with their friends and bad things happen.

Idk, I just wish more festivals steered away from it. Counterpoint was hilarious. Complete edm fest first year, then this year there were more bands than djs by far. Actual bands too not "bands".

Sucks that all the fests start as hippie fests because those bands and that scene know about whats going on and will come out. Then they slowly bro out for $ in the end. Fests like bonnaroo. You get it big, and well known with all these other bands, then transition to the bro crowd slowly until there are maybe 3 bands that would have fit on the original lineups. I guess that's how it's gotta be though. The bro scene type peoples will only go if it's already huge and they've seen pictures of it for a couple years. Getting them out to a first year fest would be tough unless, skrillex girl talk, and whoever else are playing.

Idk, I just hate seeing good fests get fucked up.

anyone here going to Osheaga? Got tickets the other day real hyped. It's on my 18th birthday also, shoutout to Quebec for having reasonable drinking laws

bisco was pretty sweet but there were way too many electronic/dj acts. there were nectar gypsies (what i call the bassnectar freaks) literally camping out in front of the main stage sleeping 8 hours before bassnectar's set (like sleeping during disco biscuit's afternoon set).

the floozies were probably my favorite band that i didn't know about before hand. big gigantic's saturday night closeout was sick. never heard of slow magic before which was really good on friday night.

met some cool people. also had a scare on saturday night on the lawn. security found some goodies and started dragging me out before a mob formed around the guy shouting "fuck you let him go." the security guard dragged me a little too hard knocking me over some people, so he lost his grip and i booked it into the night flying like the wind.

good times all around. do not want to be at work today.

Yeah dude, you gonna be camping? I'm in black bear. Squam is such a dope time but really wished I pulled the trigger on a pemby pass again, had the time of my life last year

Still recovering from grassroots just got home been up there since wednesday. Had a awesome time, such a chill vibe. I missed bisco for it, which kinda sucked but I truly needed a break from the edm circuit

Saw Twiddle and Lotus this past Saturday at a local fest. It was a smaller mostly family-type crowd and I don't think many people knew what they were in for haha. Hopefully both bands gained some new fans because they certainly had everyones attention. here's a pic if I can get it right...
