Well that's super easy. Just go to the show, they typically sell single event tickets like SXSW. I'm pretty bummed on Sled Island this year, last year would have been sick except for the flood :/ . I realllly wanted to see The Thermals.

See I don't understand these bluegrassy folky country sorta shindigs that toss in big name electronic artists like bassnectar or grammatik. Like what sort of vibe are they going for. Looks absolutely awful in my opinion, but hey, to each his own I guess.

gnaRWal, if you don't have one yet you should start trying to grab a late night barn ticket for umphreys. If you can't get one go back right before the show and they'll sometimes reissue a few. Also if you know somebody inside see if you can get there wristband. Tape it on good in case they tug it. Place doesn't hold many people compared to the fest but it's worth it.

I was gonna explain to you how off your post is, but not worth it.. long story short festivals like to have different vibes sometimes different days. Those headliners are jam bands not bluegrass folk. Plus the electronic bands will play late at night for the party crowd. That lineup is stacked!!!!

I'm not a fan but it isn't THAT bad at scamp. They don't have whomp to the point where many people come for just that. A lot of people there come for moe. and umph. I agree though but everyones trying to mix it up a little bit these days. The only shitty thing is you don't see any good bands at the whomp fests but you see whompers at the good fests lol. These days people love it and promoters want to make money.

I tried to walk through the crowd at bassnectar in 2011. Got up the hill and started walking through and was like fuck this. IT's the younger generation now. A lot of wanna be ravers go to festivals to buy their "molly" and whomp out lol. It's like a ski resort not banning gapers. They're annoying but they keep the fest going.

I think the lineup is kind of meh this year. They went a little to hard at the bro crowd. IF moe. and umph weren't playing 3 days each like always I wouldn't even consider it and probably hit Del Fest. It's sick that they headline every year but it kind of sucks because it sort of forces errbody that likes those bands to go no matter what lol.

Still some great names on the lineup but other than zac brown band a lot of them played scamp in the last 2 years.

Trey band will probably kill it though as they got cancelled in the middle of the show due to the gnarly weather last year. Also moe. never got to play a final set thanks to the stage being under 3 fee of water so that set should rage. Hopefully trey sit's in with moe.

I might still go just because of that possibility. As long as I can find some posters and pins to sell I'm down.

if you want to go to peach just for the allman brothers, my personal opinion would be (depending on where you are geographically) mountain jam might be more worth it. I think mountain jams line up is much more stacked. but I'll for sure see you at vibes, I can't wait for july

For the Hudson project what would you say would be the best day to go for electronic/trap music? Is there any way to tell? First festival and we're only goin for the day so were basically clueless about this shit. I just wanna turn up on some crazy edm type shows

Too early to tell for sure but it'll probably be Friday or Saturday night

I just thought I'd chime in after all this negative talk about bonnaroo and say that I went last year and had the time of my life. I didn't have a similar experience to theabortionator at all..

Yes, I do agree that security is tight. That is probably the largest drawback I found during my trip to the farm. However, once I was inside past the car checkpoint I had NO run-ins whatsoever with security (never saw any cops walking through campsites or anything like that. but heard that undercovers were out and about.) If you have half a brain you can avoid problems with cops and security.

As for vibes from strangers: I can't really comment because I don't know what it was like in past years. However, in my experience I found that the majority of people were friendly, in the moment, and having a good time. Of course there were a few rotten apples in the bunch, but there are 100,000+ people there.. not everyone is gonna be your BFF.

Hudson Project lineup is looking prime. I live in Westchester too, so not too much of a hike for me, too bad I'll be in Whistler that week. I am going to Gov Ball however, third year, should be fun. All day Sat and Sun, Friday maybe for a few hours because I have an SAT II the next day.

First I'm glad you had a good time. Second I'm guessing that roo last year was one of your first festivals. First festivals have to be pretty horrible to not feel magical.

It's great that you had no run in's during the festival. I had gone before been camped in a different region and had no problems.

When you say "If you have half a brain you can avoid problems with cops and security." it kind of pisses me off be I was describing a very valid warning. You happened to be camped in an area where shit wasn't going down and avoided it throughout the weekend. That doesn't mean you know shit, you were just lucky. Again that's great honestly, but don't preach that "anybody with half a brain you can avoid problems with cops and security."

Cops were legit just sprinting into peoples campsites. And I'm not talking about people that they had tracked down for other shit, ANY large gathering they saw in a campsite. People like you that were down there with friends just chillin having a good time. Unless none of your friends ever had even a bowl on you or a crumb of weed on you, or planned to dip out and run for it you simply lucked out.

I didn't make any of that shit up. Actually left out even more stuff that I still won't add in. All I'm saying is you aren't super slick and avoided it with your epic knowledge. You got lucky, so don't be a douche.

"not everyone is gonna be your BFF."

Cute

Maybe you and your friends are the kind of people I try to avoid at festivals. Probably did bathsalts all weekend and go turnt up to nothing but dj sets all weekend. Am I generalizing? Definitely, but I don't care.

For anyone that goes, I really hope you have a good time. I actually sent several people pm's of solid information about the fest that had nothing to do with hating on it.

shit man, I didnt mean to rub you the wrong way haha. I just thought I'd throw in my 2cents. I wasn't doubting/criticizing anything you said, and your tips were spot on. But had I not been to the farm before and read this thread I would have been completely turned against going to roo, so I figured I'd share my positive experience to lighten its reputation.

You really must have been traumatized if you're that adamant about bonnaroo being shit. haha

and yeah, it was my first festival of that size. and no, I try to avoid bathsalts, RCs, NBOMe's and all them nastys. but I don't criticize you for generalizing haha.

It's all good man. I ate some spaghetti and was over it. a couple minutes after. I just had to get it out. That's what my therapist says to do.

And yeah it was really that bad. I've been to 40-50 camping fests and have never experienced anything like roo 2012. The whole festival was like a nightmare that didn't end. I still saw a few goods met some new people but it was seriously rough.

If you go back hopefully you have as much fun as the last time

I'm more than excited for Jack White and the Arctic Monkeys, plus I can see some bands I missed at Coachella (or just see them again)

Eh, not too stoked on this years line up. I'll give it that it's better then the previous year however. I plan to pick up a wristband for Coachella once they release in the next month or two!

I'll be picking one of those up again for sure, it'll be one of those priority things.

Getting deep in the music fests

has volunteered clean vibes before? I've never volunteered for post show clean up (usually pre-show set up) and wondering if it is worth it or if its just too much work post fest when I'm going to be ridiculously burnt out

i did parking during the show and it wasn't bad at all, and id deff recommend it. I know that does not help.

I'm volunteering for a free pass at this festival this summer and I'm actually waiting for the mail that was supposed to arrive today where i get to know what kind ofwork I'm gonna be doing. I'm to hand out wrist bands at the pearly gates.

I did clean vibes at Phish Superball in 2011. I did during show. I really didn't feel like hanging around once the festival end cleaning up everything. Some people I know love it. Usually when the fest ends it's on to the next one.

If you do post show you can ground score some good stuff sometimes. You can also do it while cleaning stage areas during the fest. Unfortunately a lot of people sucked and if I did it again I'd mention something to the people running it. You do a line to go across the field but people just went running looking for ground scores and leaving the cleaning to other people.

It was tiring as fuck I think I worked from 8 till 1-3 all 3 days but on the plus I got to see music instead of being home and I was broke as fuck. IF you don't want to do much work check out being a "trash talker" you stand next to the trash area for a few hours in shifts and tell people whether it's compost trash or recycle.

Personally isn't really my thing but whatever, I did it survived and was happy to be there.

Also check out W.E.T. work exchange team generally working for the fest directly doing dik what. I've never done it but some friends from canada did it on most of the fest tour a couple years ago.

For the most part I just volunteer at small fests now to help out.

Movement Detroit is the place to be over Memorial Day Weekend. Detroit techno at its absolute finest, festival itself is only the beginning, after-parties are the best part.

just came back and holy fucking fuuuuuuck. Hands down best weekend of my life. Brand New was kind of a Disappointment to be honest, but Drug Church was probably the best set at the whole festival. Patrick Kindlon is a god among men.

Personally, I would never wear any of that stuff. And I feel the opinion of people who have been to a bunch of fest feel festival clothing and brands putting out festival lines is the beginning of the end for festivals and makes it too mainstream. I'm all for people discovering festies since I was a noob last year but 50 dollars for a t-shirt? Get real..

meant all this in a nice way
