switch...for skiing

fakie is something boarders use...

with snowboarding

Fakie- is a term that is interchangeable with switch to a certain extent, Riding fakie means you have turned around on the board and was derived from skateboarding its only a temporary move

switch -refers to trying to perform for a period when riding or doing a trick

with skiing swith/fakie are the indentical.. haha i only know that b/c i have to teach it and i say it every day

switch

In snowboarding, it used to be that fakie was going backwards with an angled stance. Switch is going backwards with a duck stance. It used to be argued that fakie tricks were harder because of the stance. Now days they mean basically the same thing.

Going by that definition, fakie should be used for skiing because it is much hard than going forwards.

Also - stop saying cab, frontside and backside. Those terms DO NOT apply to skiing (backside is unnatural??).

ok im vtsteez's roommate, and i have been proven wrong, i guess i should stop saying fakie....but does it really matter in the end?

haha as long as its not "backwards" i think we're ok

when you take off it's switch and landing is fakie. is what i use.

I call it backwards, because Switch doesnt really apply to skiing it has just been labled that way, and fakie just sounds gay. And Backside, its not fuckin backside, that applies to snowboarding/skateboarding, but to each his/her own........ Rightside is the real way, Unnatural or unatty, what the shit is that???

and whats it called wen u 270 off a rail and spin uphill? is that a blindside???? all this lingo is confusing. we should have a NS dictionary

i say that switch is for riding, going off jumps and landing backwards but fakie is when ur refering to tricks in the pipe. Like air to fakie sounds better than air to switch and doing a switch 9 off a jump sounds better than fakie 9. That's just my opinion

^agreed

i think thats called backside. im not really sure though. i think when you spin, coming off a rail, and you face downhill before uphill its called frontside, and vice versa

VT

frontside and backside only apply to rails when you ski, because you never land sideways when just jumping. saying a spin is backside makes no sense at all, considering what backside and frontside mean.

My weiner is probably harder than yours.

switch, cab and fakie are all different. dont say cab or fakie as they dont apply to skiing. switch it is!

to let you know, when switching up or spinning off rails you can apply frontside or backside. however, it doesnt make sense to label spins fs or bs when spinning off jumps. its for the best to say leftside or rightside. and personally, i say switch, not fakie.

"say cab thats better than both of them and also call unnatural spins backside"

Thats wrong because cab is switch frontside.

History First...

The reason this debate exists is fakie and switch are two different things in skateboarding, but the difference is where your feet are while riding with your opposite foot forward. If you are on the front of the board, it's fakie, and if you're on the back of the board (normal riding position) it's called switch. In snowboarding and skiing you can't change your foot position, so they are the same.

Back to Topic...

The reason switch is more common for takeoffs of tricks and for general riding is because it would be more normal to take off, or normally ride switch on a skateboard than fakie. BUT for tricks like air to fakie, or boardslide to fakie, in skateboarding your feet wouldn't have changed position, so when you land you would be fakie not switch. That's why it sounds better "to fakie" not "to switch". Cab refers to a spin on a skateboard started from a fakie foot position and spinning frontside. Since there is no frontside in skiing, it can't be translated exactly, as it can for snowboarding, but it makes sense.

Conclusion...

Whatever you say you're right... but for takeoffs and general riding, "switch" would be best, and for landings "fakie" generally is best.

"air to fakie"

"switch left-side nine"

"boardslide to fakie"

"switch straightline"

"switch boardslide"

hope that helps

"fakie" takes too long to say, and "cab" is a skateboard and snowboard term, so "switch" it is

Technically it is fakie because you cannot change you stance on the ski when you turn a 180. On a skateboard, you must move to the back of the deck to change from fakie to switch.

The bottom line is that is sounds better to say switch 9 than to say fakie 9 so we say switch. Sooo basically it doesnt really matter.

switch, or cab....i think i like cab more, but im used to saying switch

fakie is more of a skate/snbd thing......

It's definitely switch. Cab makes it sound like we're trying to bite snowboarding or skating.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

go with switch, can't be wrong, but i also agree to the point that landing a trick may be called fakie.

(the pipe example : straight air to fakie, not straight air to switch :::::: switch 9 on a kicker not cab/fakie 9)

as long as you dont say "backwards" any of those work
