Baruch Spinoza

Bento (in Hebrew, Baruch; in Latin, Benedictus) Spinoza is one of the most important philosophers—and certainly the most radical—of the early modern period. His thought combines a commitment to a number of Cartesian metaphysical and epistemological principles with elements from ancient Stoicism and medieval Jewish rationalism into a nonetheless highly original system. His extremely naturalistic views on God, the world, the human being and knowledge serve to ground a moral philosophy centered on the control of the passions leading to virtue and happiness. They also lay the foundations for a strongly democratic political thought and a deep critique of the pretensions of Scripture and sectarian religion. Of all the philosophers of the seventeenth-century, perhaps none have more relevance today than Spinoza.

I figured mine needs and explanation..

During my freshman year of college, I became friends with the kids living across the hall in the dorms from me. They were from a small town and had a bunch of weird slang that I had never heard before, one of them being "spoo" referring to mountain dew.

At the time, I was pounding down around 10+ mountain dews a day so I had gotten the title as spoomaster to them. They said that they referred to a kid from their hometown as the spoomaster and described him as about 5'1, 280 lbs, and mexican.

I'm going on my third year living with these guys and I have still never heard them say the word mountain dew, I consider them pretty damn weird.

I do a ton of water skiing in the spring/summer/fall...most of which is barefoot water skiing, or more commonly referred to as barefootin'. Being that its pretty much my favorite thing to do on water, and how much of it I do,I guess you could say I'm a fiend for it. Hence, Barefootin_Fiend.

well sophomore year we went down to Florida for baseball. I roomed with 2 seniors and a junior. The 1 senior and junior kept asking how to say my last name (Kretzschmar) and would say it in all the ways I've already heard.

Kreetchmer

Kretchmayer

whatever else

finally the senior says Krotchmar. Shorten that to Krotch. Bingo. now even my girlfriend's best friend calls me that. its awkward around parents beyond belief.

stemming from Krotch are the names as follows

krotch-monger

krotch-schmear

krotch-meister

and many more.

I was under the impression the Fiend was relating to a few other things as well.

Well the name Ribss is pretty straightforward. My friends and I when I was young (like age 10) really enjoyed eating meats. My friends favorite meat was babyback ribs and that babyback babyback babyback commercial was popular at the time, so for some reason he started calling me Ribs and it stuck. I added an extra S to be cool and there you go, Ribss.

My friend used to run a music venue and I met Mos Def backstage after a gig to promote his album The New Danger. He sang a little acapella for me and flipped the words to 'The Boogie Man Song' from "boogie man" to "boogie woman". When I was leaving he said 'catch you later boogie woman' and that's that.
