Everyone Needs a Moped

Moped's are fun as hell, plain and simple. Moped's are different than scooters. Scooters and the ones without pedals and are the sit ons with the little foot platform.

This is my 2005 Tomo's ST. I got it last summer and rode it around until August when I burned out the clutches. I got back from school and did the work it needed and she finally runs again.

I absolutely love riding mine around town. It tops out at about 30mph and gets an average of 102 mpg (I filled the tank 3 times last summer).

In Massachusetts you don't need a motorcycle license or insurance and its only $40 to register it for 2 years.

So save your pennies and pick one up, you'll be happy as hell that you did.

Where did you buy yours? And i check craigslist every day for one. I want one bad.

Check out www.mopedarmy.com It's basically Newschoolers for Moped's. There are forums that i trolled for about a month until I found one.

The pedals are mainly for starting it. You back pedal once to start it up. There's no electric starter or a pull start or anything. You can pedal it up to a whopping 8mph (because of the gearing) if need be as well.

I would rather just get a motorcycle. You only need to be 14 or 15 here to get a license for one. Plus you can go anywhere with a motorcycle with no restrictions. With mopeds your restricted by your speed.

Motorcycles are badass.

i have the sickest most ghetto moped you'll ever see.... probably 30 years old, yellow and runs like my dead grandmother

with the whole gas/oil crisis that took place in the late 70's my girlfriends dad purchased a honda express scooter. im sure you could finds pics of the little bike on google or whatnot, but that little bastard still runs today

Riding a mopeds like shaggin a fat chick. It's fun but you don't want your friends to catch you doing it.

i dont know about pocket bikes. they seem sketchy to me. your knees are like inches from the pavement, plus they look uncomfortable.

Yeahh haha thats a few years older than mine. Same kind and model, mines just newer. I almost shit myself when i saw the movie after i picked mine up

There are a lot of requirements for a vehicle to be street legal. They need proper lights and signals and need to pass emissions tests in most states. Plus, being so low to the ground makes you much less visible to people in cars.

dude, i'm 22, and that sounds amazing. you can just ride them on the roads? damn. 102 mpg is the tits. citys should be moped only.

I think in most, if not every state, if its under 50cc then you don't need a license.

ruckus' are badass. i dont know if there are any other honda/JDM guys on here, but passwordjdm.com makes just about any part you can think of for the ruckus in carbon fiber. and they also make big brake kits for them. they are fucking sick

I'm inspired..... I drive 8 miles each way to school during the year, in the city..... on days I don't need to carry a shit ton of stuff I'd so rather ride then drive my Subaru.....

Anybody wanna sell me a Tomos?

Id rather get a motorcycle but people drive like douches and Im in no rush to get into a serious accident.

With that said, I want one of these!

I'd buy one if I lived in the city or somewhere warm where I could use year round. The mileage is bomb on those things.

This one looks really much like mine, it's an Zundapp 50CC GTS. Except for the mirrors and pedals it's exactly the same. This moped was also made in a motorbike version, with a bigger engine I can make it the same. I'm tuning it now a bit, it has a topspeed of 45 mph but I'm thinking about tuning it to 55 mph. It's really fun to ride here, the only problem here is the cops. The topspeed for moped's is here 28 mph, which is quite boring. Most part of the time I don't care about the topspeed, just keep watching for the cops.

WOW WOW .. i want one, how much will one run me?

and anyone know the laws in the state of washington?

Mine cost $500, i got it last summer and it had 1200 miles on it. Most brand new are anywhere from 1000-1500, but if you search hard enough you can find a sick deal.

www.mopedarmy.com is pretty much your best bet. its newschoolers for mopeds, the forums are annoying but youll figure them out.

As for a license, in some states they are straight up illegal, but in most all you need is a regular drivers license, no motorcycle license or insurance needed. In Massachusetts is $40 for a 2 year registration.

You need a motorcycle license for a good one. Quite an easy test, easier than drivers actually. The Stella cost $3000, but it was new, and its a good one. You can pick up a used one for a lot less.
