I've put most my new to touring friends on fairly heavy gear, thing is most of them are fiiiiit, like stupid fit, 5-7 days on gym, + hikeing mountains every weekend, some weekdays etc, but kinda suck at skiiing, so their skiiing is improving drasticly due to heavier gear, and they are still to fast for me on the up

my skis cost me 350. My bindings 140
my jacket and pants together cost 300. Gloves i splurged and got swarmy leather for 100$ because gloves i think are crucial. Boots were 300$. goggles 60$. Hats 50$.
all my gear is awesome, but everything i wear on the slopes together cost about 1300$. And i use everything besides skis for at least 5 seasons. Skis i replace every 3-4 seasons.
so assuming i replace everything every 5 yrs thats about 250$ a season for equipment.
but if skiing is literally your life then its reasonable to spend more on stuff that will last you forever like jackets and gloves and maybe boots.
but i dont know how you can pay 700$ or more for skis knowing you are going to destroy them on rails in one season. Thats just insane to me.
if rails are your ticket to self esteem then get a cheap pair of burner skis for rail days and have a good set of skis for jumps and backcountry that u dont hit rails with that will last multiple seasons.
