Elitism in the backcountry

When you say “fine French skis” it makes me think you don’t know as much as you put on.

I’m prob not as fast as you, but don’t worry, I’ll tip you a $5 when you’re waxing my fine French skis when I blow through your town, crybaby.

Musta traded some karma points to someone to wax his fancy French skis or he blew by so faaast his karma blew away

Imagine having your head so far up your ass that you think your stinky French setup and 14 karma points impress anyone ??

I’m not a moron who’s crying on the internet about other people having nicer things than me.

Or making fun of someone for having a shift binding.

Smh. Mountain faggots.

Maybe my writing wasn’t clear enough, what pissed me off wasn’t that people had nicer gear, i am indifferent to their comments, I’m an adult. It’s their pretension and attitude that they are better than me because of it. you seem very proud that you worked hard and can afford a lighter setup, does it make you a better skier? Do you have more fun on hill? what made you think any of us care?

maybe pick up knitting and practice your comprehensive reading skills.

I get tired of you pretentious assholes looking down on me for having a shift binding.

I camped 14 nights in the bc last winter and skied the resort everyday.

used the camoxs and shifts as snow shoes to get back and forth to the tent.

lick my balls and ass .

You just told me everything with that statement . If it’s so good and you're accruing negative karma - just say your setup now. What’s holding you back? Or is it not as nice as you put on?

Yeah that’s great man, maybe show us some cool shit you’ve skied? If you have shifts you must send some super gnarly stuff in the BC too right??

Also watch this video, then come tell us how badass you are for having 2 weeks worth of camping out there.

You get hate bc your a pos. Did I make my point clear? Did you get it?

idc what kinda gear someone has, that doesn’t say anything about them, if anything, those on the older gear probably love the sport more and are way more dedicated, probably have better stories and experiences lived and shared as well, ability to fix and improvise in the mountains, where as you seem ignorant, stuck up , hateful and boring.

They won’t ban him for that, now if he memes the sbh he’s in trouble, he probably don’t know anything bout that or making the whole mountain your playground, he’s too good for non French skis built in Idaho, skis and potatoes, they got it going on over there.

I got my money on you rocking a Bent 100 with shift 13s. I can see it clear as day because you mentioned earlier you hadn’t bought the BC Atris.

Edited and came back to say: what did you hope to achieve by all of this? Like if you’re going to talk shit and act all big Dick - at least back it up.

You missed the comment this was a response from. It said I was feeling personally attacked by the comments on my skis. I wasn’t mad because I was personally attacked. I am indifferent to their quips. I could give less of a shit. What made me angry was the fact that those spending more on skis think they can talk down to someone that didn’t. I wasn’t backpedaling, I’m not arguing either. Elitism exists in the BC, I’m just pointing it out, and my personal experience tied to it.

[tag=273152]@BradFiAusNzCoCa[/tag] haha why you dragging me into this bruv?! :D

I used to have a pair of BC100s with shifts 13 though, fairly good setup thats fun on the down.

unless your superyoung, most have toured with frame bindings, they are all that was avail for years really.

I dont get why anyone would care by a remark about your setup beeing heavy, a normal resort ski with a framebinding IS heavy as shit, its just pointing out facts.

I'm more jelous of the time people can spend in the backcountry, than the money on their gear

This is exactly what I thought when reading this... also OP, you're kinda low-key humble bragging that people tell you that you can keep up with them with your frame bindings lol...

whats worse is you are then complaining that people making comments on gear is going to turn people away from the sport? What are you talking about... people ski because they enjoy skiing.. if people are turned away that easy, then maybe they were in it for the wrong reason to begin with and its a good thing that they are now selling their gear because someone who can appreciate it will now buy it up on the cheap.

Anyway, nobody truly cares what skis or bindings you use in the backcountry as long as you know how to use your head to tour safely and don't make shitty decisions that put us in danger... But at the end of the day, most skiers can be total gear nerds to some extent. its fun to talk about what tools we use. Thats why there is a gear talk section on this site, man... so of course everyone is going to question each others setups. I wouldn't call this elitism at all, its just commentary - something most people seem to do.

that said, if youre actually just jealous about the arcteryx wearers and pin binding users, then maybe its you who has the problem?

Actually haven’t owned a bent since 2014/15.. Never bought into a shift either, being it was the first of its kind I was waiting for year 2 models, but dukes came out negating my need for a finicky shift that’s in need of semi frequent adjustment, used my friends this year for some short skins and I’m not a fan.

Dukes seem waaay better to me, I will be building a 0 resort lightweight touring setup with moment voyager 14 and rmu apostle 3.0 ltd tho ?✊? so I’ll have comments on that come next January, picking up day makers When I can for my other skis for that surprise trek, looking at quiver killers and cast for other setups as well as just the joy of experiencing the different tech

haha , always be polite or ish online, now in person I will talk shit, I find it funnier to talk shit in person than online, reverse keyboard warrior.

Honestly I will ski everything, but having skied everything I know how much a good ski can do for a skier.

I have CAST with quiver killers

I've put most my new to touring friends on fairly heavy gear, thing is most of them are fiiiiit, like stupid fit, 5-7 days on gym, + hikeing mountains every weekend, some weekdays etc, but kinda suck at skiiing, so their skiiing is improving drasticly due to heavier gear, and they are still to fast for me on the up :p

just spend more money idk

I like the reverse keyboard warrior, talking shit and degrading or looking down on someone for their gear , lifestyle etc are two different things tho

I like the heavier gear as well, but I’m in aight shape, and I haven’t done any long tours, I gym 5-7 days, labor 7days, hike or mtb play with kids in between, was always a lean/skinny power lifter and hiit , still kinda am but Ive added cardio/anaerobics to my lifting

Any input on cast? I’m interested I’m them

[tag=271284]@anders_a[/tag]

have you used quiver killers to mount bindings in more than one location on a ski? For instance QKs installed to mount the same or different binding at -3 and -5 ?

yes I have, multiple bindings on same ski, same binding same places same ski, my more swiss cheese one is duke pt 16, kingpin & jester on same ski.

And op dont worry so much about it.

i also think ppl who spend huge amounts of money on their gear are usually chadsexual tools. I always try to save money on my gear.

my skis cost me 350. My bindings 140

my jacket and pants together cost 300. Gloves i splurged and got swarmy leather for 100$ because gloves i think are crucial. Boots were 300$. goggles 60$. Hats 50$.

all my gear is awesome, but everything i wear on the slopes together cost about 1300$. And i use everything besides skis for at least 5 seasons. Skis i replace every 3-4 seasons.

so assuming i replace everything every 5 yrs thats about 250$ a season for equipment.

but if skiing is literally your life then its reasonable to spend more on stuff that will last you forever like jackets and gloves and maybe boots.

but i dont know how you can pay 700$ or more for skis knowing you are going to destroy them on rails in one season. Thats just insane to me.

if rails are your ticket to self esteem then get a cheap pair of burner skis for rail days and have a good set of skis for jumps and backcountry that u dont hit rails with that will last multiple seasons.

But op dont worry about ppl being blunt while they are on vacation. Alot of them have stressful lives and their ski trip is a chance for them to blow off steam and be jackasses. Also everybody on the mountain tends to think they are great skiers, especially the ones who have never watched good park skiers hit the terrain park.

lol savage biff ant too quick in the am, I might get outta bed and post but I’m not technically conscious til planks hit snow in November ?

A big part of this conversation is how safety in the backcountry relates to feeling like the is elitism. Out there it is dangerous as fuck and most people who know what they are doing have and have that safety knowledge and training have nice gear because they use it a lot. If they see people without very nice gear then it is easy to assume that they don't have much experience and therefore could have bad decision making in the mountains. No one wants an avy killing people.

That being said, the backcountry is filled with judgy elitist gear whores who also don't know safety but benefit from their gear giving them respect. Age also plays into that. Its not surprising that a bunch of tech bros are elitist assholes. At some point though in a sport that cares a ton about grams of weight its going to be a bit of a badge of honor to be using heavy shit and you gotta own that. It is atypical at this point and requires more effort using frame bindings and heavy skis. Let your skiing do the talking, show your know about avalanche safety, and the respect you're looking for will follow

kingpin skiers over here be like uhhhhhhh, oh wait no, we're too busy skiing and having fun but don't wanna go too hard cuz our bindings might break lol
