EAst vs. West, agian

I don't know if you people on the Eastcoast can comprehend this but ..... Ice does exist on the Westcoast. Yes, sometimes it gets cold enough for the snow to harden up. Of course its probably nothing compared to your hardcore ice out east, much like your trees and drops and steeps are laughable when put alongside what we have out West. And the whole exposure thing? Besides the few who are lucky enought to live in Whis, Mammoth, ect, the exposure level is prob about equal. Sure I could spend $150 a weekend to go up to Whis for some exposure, but then again I'm just having fun skiing. I'm not too worried about being in the next Iberg movie. Maybe you should try and get in touch with some film companies/sponsors, or try to get in with the Superunknown contest. And please don't make ignorant comments like, there are more and better skiers on the east. You can bitch all you want, but until you get up and put some effort into getting you name into the scene, your still just another teenager on a computer.

This post was not ment to 'bash' anyone, and I know you Eastcoast skiers are sick.

To Misty7, yes I think west coast skiers have more oppurtunity to get noticed by companies. There are lots of reps and other people who work for ski companies looking for new talent out west. They know that place like Mammoth, Whistler, Aspen, Tahoe, and SLC have huge populations of good skiers and they are out there looking for that new talent all the time.

east coast skier ski park and urban so they get good at it. West coast is more variated terrain and bigger mountain, but there si more things do to do, overthere you need to be a better well rounded skier.

i ski east coast and there are some pretty damn good skiers, but if you asked almost any east coast skier they would say that they would rather be skiing in the west. i know i would.

i will say west coast, because i dont like ice no matter where it is, and it seems that the west has more powder to keep the nasty ice away. plus, i would die out east, becasue my edges are so dull,and i would slide all over the place

saying skiers are better on the east probably is true, since our mountains are sooo shitty, we have to deal with shit...if you have to deal with shit all day, you'll be more used to skiing shit, rather than nice fluffy shit, so your preety much ready for anything. On the other hand when you ski shit all the time, you still are skiing shit, so you might not be able to ski good stuff...just shit.

I would say that west coast skiers are better at ripping sick stuff in perfect conditions but they are pampered in a way. East coasters are much better at skiing in any conditions. I would say that neither is better but east coasters are tougher

While most east coast skiers could go out west and rip I doubt any west coast skier could go back east and handle the eastcoast and its boiler plat ice any day. On one ski trip out west there was ice one day after some rain and cold night temps. The local guys there were freaking out and faling on there asses while me and my crew were ripping it up cuase we were use to it.Its not really fair to compare the east and west two unless you give the east a handycap. Also if you ski at places like jay peak on the east you will be pretty good at BC

If you want to make this an argument over which coast has better skiers than I don't know what to tell you. Both sides produce good skiers in all aspects. You can't deny the west has every possible sort of condition, people who think its always nice soft powder all the time there is misinformed, yes they have much better conditions than the east but its not always great. The east on the otherhand does produce skiers who know how to use their skis. This debate is stupid because both sides put out good skiers.

winterton is really the only east coast photographer who gets his shots in magazines. even if you have a nice shot on the east coast, it wont get into a mag unless you get a big name photographer. Of course the west has more exposure

To all you saying east caost skiers can rip in the west but not the other way around. I've seen some east coast skiers try to ski pow, especially deep powder and they suck shit. It's hilarious, their tips diving like submarines. Also they always stick to the low angle stuff, anyone can ski powder if the slopes only 35 degrees. 45 or 50 degrees is a different story and east coast skiers can't handle it because they've never skied anyting that steep before. West coast skiers ski ice too. It's not pow everyday here.

first off, youre all retarded. youre all just comparing apples and oranges. the west has huge mountain ranges, where the east has tiny mountains. the west will probably tend to produce a more laid back skiing style, whereas the east will probably produce a skier with more of a technical style.

ive had friends from the west coast that are sick skiers come east, and werent able to ski as well as the rest of us east coasters becasue of the ice. but on the other hand, i have never been out west, but friends of mine that live on the east coast who are also very very good skiers, who have been out west, tell me that they ended up on their face because they werent used to skiing on west snow.

with this, its sorta like comparing the Ferrari F1 car to a Volkswagen Euro Van, both great at what they do, but one has alot more smart kids lives are ruined casue they smoke too much pot cause of it

anyone who has moved from the east coast to the mountains realized the west dominates in all aspects; terrain, snow, atmosphere, attitude, skiing ability, beer, and even park(not as icy in my opinion)
