EA skiing game

wow sounds amaze cant wait for this game to come out if it even does. skate was such a succesful game and i dont see why they woudnt want to make some more of games like this type like skiing/snowboarding. tho i do think that if they had to only pick one they would go for snowboarding just becuase its more popular than skiing in the general publics view plus it would probably be a lot easier to make much more like skate since its only one board

most people think that it's a small market, when really it's evenly matched with the skateboard market.

but it's a big company. How much influence does he have? If he was, I dunno, executive director, I'd say, yeah, this proposal could work.

Yeah a summer or two ago Enlighter came on here with some input seeking, and he even set up a forum that was really active for about a month. Then it kinda died down, but I PM'd him a couple months ago and he said that it's still in progress! They just need some more financial backing I think.

Right.. I've been thinking about this more and for this idea to have the chance of being accepted we need to put together some sort of report on the market. It's fair enough having all these Ideas on a thread but it all needs to be consolidated into a persuasive piece of writting that can be submitted to EA.

We'd be doing work that they pay people hundreds of thousands to do by showing them the full potential into the market.

1.) the game would have a plot similar to skate. Not like shaun whites etc. those bad games
2.) Mobility. A good thing would be if you could walk around similar to skate. you can get off your skis, hop into a car and ride around town to find something you would like to hit such as urban rails. This would work in a way like this: -you hop into your car, you find a rail, walk up to it and you press something that makes a mini kicker pop up. it automatically restarts you at a perfect distance on like a drop in. you ski up, jump, do whatever and grind the rail.
-the walking would not be how like GTA or skate has it where when you slightly move the thumbstick, your guy like takes 5 steps. it would be on a COD layout where you can walk easily and not all edgy.
3.) mountains/cities. The game would have options that you can go to a mountain, but while your at the mountain, you can leave and go to the city. This would not be possible with every mountain b/c not all mountains are near a city. But there should be an option where it would be urban only such as NYC where there are no mountains.
4.) This game should not be all freestyle based. There should be some backcountry when the snow pours in and the trails arent groomed. This will lead to a more variety of skiing as we have now adays.
5.) snowball throwin? i think it should not be in the game. though some ppl may think its fun, it really isnt as in shaun whites. THOUGH, there should be a massive snowball war like there is every year at mt.snow. -this would work like this: There would be one day or more in your career mode where a massive snowball fight is planned. The point of the mission during that time is to take out as many people as possible, but also get hit as little as possible. So you can be skiing down and chuckin snowballs or you can get off your skis and throw them.
-my opinion though is to not really be able to throw them as much as possible bcuz that just ruins the fun of the game bcuz u dont do it so often.

6.) progression. when you start out career, you should not be able to do every trick in the handbook. You should be able to progress. the more you play, the more challenges you complete, the more you learn. -there should be an option for camps. the more comps you win the more money you win. but what do you do with that money besides spend it on gear. A CAMP. you can use your money to get a session at windells of COC. there, you get exclusive tutorials on tricks that would be difficult to learn by yourself. lets take windells for example: you would have lets say 3 choices when you sign up; beginner, intermediate, advanced. Each skill level would have a different set of tricks you can learn. But if you just started the game and you sign up for advanced, you wouldnt be able to pull off the tricks no matter what bcuz you still havent progressed enough as i stated about progression earlier.

7.) MONEY. so theres the question about what you can do with the money you earn. here are some posibilities: -a camp so you can learn more skills ect.
-Gear, so the more you ski, the better you get, the higher the standards you will have, the better the gear you will need.
-Filming: this would be the big up of the game. You wont just get sponsored so easily. This is where you take your filming skills and put them to the test. While you ski, you will have an option that will be an option to record your skiing. You will take segments of you skiing and then you would go to the editor, thats where you can take all you segments, and put them into a promo. the editor will be much like editors on your computer with options such as slomo, special effect that make a screen with your name ect. You will then pick a couple companies(about 5 max lets say) and you send them your promo. Cross your fingers and hope you were good enough to get sponsored bcuz becoming sponsored will make you known. Being know means more opportunities, free gear, more comps, more recognition, more fans(ill talk about that later), and especially more money.
8.) Fans. i think that a cool idea would be having fans. The more fans you have, the more recognized you are, the greater your chances are in success. The computer of the game will give you fans the more you play. The more comps you will, the more fans you will have and the better your "karma"(haha just like NS baby). the more karma means the better you are respected. But watch out. Losing a lot will make you lose your fans and that may not be good if you want your name to be known.
Those are my ideas for now and i will possibly have more coming soon.

dude those are sick ideas but do you know how much money it would cost to make a game with all of that in it?

a lot

just like in skate use the "flick stick" to ollie, and nollie. wont be any flip tricks though obivously. Like skate put real pros in there, with real features, real companies, and real places. go as far away from shawn white snowboarding as possible. Make the game realistic and fun. no need to do 5 frontflips that gets old in a second. Ive had skate since day 1 and it only get more and more fun.

yea im just sayin thats wat i think would be ideal.
and to anders f: i think the thumbstick thing would be cool. but to do like a grab, you would hold the right trigger to grab with right hand, left trigger for left hand, and both to grab with both, and when you grab, if you move your right thumbstick in a certain way, it will do a variation grab

some one may of already stated this but if they are saying the audience isn't big enough but half of my friends who play skate dont skateboard if its as fun as skate people will buy it

ok listen to me on this. im not trying to hate on some of these ideas but seriously do you think a skiing game would come out with cities that you can search for rails. I mean id be a big fan of it and all. But that is a whole other thing. First they would have to design the mountains then the cities. I would love it but think realistic. And half of the people that would buy the game dont know what an urban rail is

i completely understand wat you mean. it was my idea with the urban rails and not hate from me. i was just sayin my opinion from a skiers standpoint and what i would like to see in the game. not everything is possible but that would be cool but u do have a point

dude we should totally make this game called real life... it would be sick you wake up in the morning and drive an hour to the resort. then ski all day and have to drive home shower and got to work so you can pay for it allll. it would be suck a sick game i would play it

Have a park editor, lots of people, (t-hall, jossi well, dumont, ect). Also have a feature where you can hike for your lines. and have lots of different places, like AK and BC. Also, have the snow and sound and ski reaction be different when skiing pow vs. park. Tell him to give it as many realistic features as possible. All of my friends would buy a game like this, we have been mad that there isnt one, and we're stuck playing Sean White Snowboarding. I would buy whatever console just to play this game (i have an X-box). Anyway, good luck.

Also, you should be able to walk or skin around in the backcountry and ski lines. You should also be able to build jumps with a shovel wherever you like

Sorry to keep posting, but i keep getting more ideas once i hit reply. lol. last one. have real skis, such as hellbents, jjs, invaders, ect. or if you would have to pay k2 the companies money, model skis after them, and have them perform differently, and be able to mount where you want. There should also be a mode where you can start a career, and at the end, your pro, with signature skis and stuff. once again, sorry for posting 3 times, good luck

i love how these people are proposing ideas... its a video game, its not real life.

i dont want to have to put on skins and climb up a mountain for 5 hours in a video game, then spend a day building a jump, then hit it and climb back up in deep pow for 20 minutes, then tear my ACL and have to sit in a hospital for a few weeks...

for christ sake.

worst.

ideas.

ever.

Hey I have an idea! In the game you can have your own house and buy stuff there. Then you could buy a computer and have access to the internet where you can write stuff on this board called Newsch... wait.

the skis you use should make a real difference.

have fat bad ass ski to land switch in pow, and some invaders for urban...

Handrail mission:

You drive up with your crew to a spot, and you have like two minutes to land some tricks for the camera before the police shows up.

you need to land a 2on, a bs switchup and a 4out. you have 2 minutes. When the police arrive, you need to negociate...

Random mission:

You may found this stupid, but...

Those are missions where you are not skiing.

example, you are at orage master, and people are asking you things, like go find me a tape for my camera, go wax my ski. You earn money and you meet pros.

Follow cam:

A film company hire you to make sick follow cam with pros. you need to control the camera movement with the analog stick, and you can't cut off any parts of the skier, you need to take a good speed too, and try no to land on the pro.

a mission were you run around and find things is really dumb why would you ever want to do that. but a follow cam mission might be cool. and the urban tthing but i think it would be cooler if you didnt know how much time you have and like depending on where the rail is located and stuff you get more time but like the cops just randomly show up and you can try to run and get away.

i agree with this...the follow cam is a sick idea. you would have to follow a skier while hes goin off jumps and all and you have a little lock on target on him. you have to keep the target on and if you lose your target you fail the mission.

most of the idea of "real life" are just dumb. i dont wanna get injured in a video game and spend time rehabilitating. thatd be like them making an ns game where u lurk and post on ns

they should make it so that you start out at like a whistler or someithing get good get sponsered and unlock real gear and pros and go to real comps like joss and the x games and stuff adn it has to be realisted to not like ssx

if if if you guys want, i can make a word document with all the best ideas and send it as a proposal to EA....? it might take a while but id be up for doing it. id say that these are the ideas from newschoolers, a online ski community with 125,000 members..

im just gonna stockpile all this info into one response
Possible Name: steeze or ski
I'd like to see a complex control scheme ala SKATE, that features a fairly steep learning curve that encourages trial and error. I think what's so special about SKATE, is the sense of achievement you feel upon mastering tricks. I like the idea of aping the "different buttons correspond to different body parts" system used in skate.
I'm definitely in favor of a behind the skier view.
(XBOX360)
Riding:Left Analog (Body/Hips): Left and right control turns (pressure sensitive). Holding "up" causes the rider to take an aggressive stance/tuck. If the rider is in the flats or has completely stopped, up skates. Double tap to holding up causes the rider to sit on his/her tails for maximum speed into jumps. Pulling back (down), causes the rider to scrub speed (pressure sensitive) by snowplowing, or quick speed checks, to an all out hard stop by pulling all the way back.
Right Analog (Skis): Left and right, in conjunction with the left analog being pressed in the same direction, makes as sharp a turn as possible. Pulling all the way back or forward, causes the rider to prepare to pop off of either tails or noses respectively. A quick "SKATE ollie/nollie"movement=small pop, where as a slow and deliberate movement that allows the "crouch animation" to complete=max pop. Pushing halfway forward or back causes the rider to enter into a press. The degree/duration of press is dependent on skis used, and snow type. Buttering is accomplished by pulling halfway back* (*while riding forward, everything is reversed for switch riding/tail butter spins), then swiveling 180 degrees (left or right) to forward accompanied by pressing the Left Analog stick in the same direction. Amount of spin is affected by speed of movements, and terrain (doing so off of a knuckle or over a roller will cause you to spin more).
Digi pad:Player chosen gestures. Ideas: Down=rideaway/bang Up= fist pump/claim Right= Goggle fix/Headphone adjust Left= Pull Pants up/crotch grab thing others: Candide one arm behind back-slight crouch, pole clap, bird, sarcastic racer/gaper tuck, etc.
Back: Toggle i-pod controls --> at which point LB and RB skip through playlistY: Toggles TrailmapB: click in/out of bindings when stoppedLB/RB: Look left/right while skiing straightLT/RT: Handplant WHEN "quick" ollieing over a jib/knuckle. Player must pull back on left analog stick and press LT/RT/both to handdrag. Timing is critical. Releasing the trigger to late will cause the rider to fail to "pop" of his hand(s).X/A: Zoom in/out
In Air:Left Analog: 2 of the 3 rotation axis. After ollie/nollie Left and Right will cause the rider to spin upright. For bigger spins, the player must quickly throw the left analog stick in the opposite direction of the intended spin just prior to takeoff before throwing back in the other direction (direction of the spin). For non inverted off axis spins (bios and corks), the player rolls the left analog stick either forward or back respectively after setting the spin either left or right (at about 180). Up and Down cause the rider to flip. Diagonals control inverted spins (d-spin, rodeo, misty).
LB/RB: Control the 3rd axis of rotation. When pressed without the Left Analog stick, the rider will do a "ear to shoulder" lincoln loop. If used in conjunction with Left Analog, depending on timing, the rider will over/underflip. Experiment.
Digi Pad: customizable. Goof/old school tricks. up=superman, down=laid out backie, left=spread eagle, right=screamin'. others: urlacher, boner, mannequin (for zeros), rollin' the windows up, etc.
Right Analog: Controls "orientation" of skis. When not grabbing, left and right cause the rider to shifty/twist at hips. Pressing the Right Analog stick in the same direction as a spin will make the rider spin faster. Pressing forward will bring the noses up and forward towards rider (think lifting toes), back will drop the tips and bring the tails closer to the rider's butt (think curling toes down). "Orientation" of ski affects which grabs you will do....
LT/RT: Left/Right hands. Grabs! Either LT or RT alone will do a safety, both will do a truckdriver. When combined with the Right Analog stick, the rider will do different grabs. I won't list them all, and I think the "arsenal" should be customizable, but here are some ideas.LT/RT and down = Blunt/TrueTail, LTandRT and down = Octo, LT/RT and up = true nose, LTandRT and up = rocket/double nose...you get the picture.
B: bail!
On Rails:Case sensitive, controls affected by surface type and width.
All controls still apply, and jibbing is really just an extension of the control scheme and is open-ended.
For example: Popping and spinning onto a wideish box. If the rider 270s onto the box, he will continue to spin on the surface. Unleeesss......He grips the edge!! Which brings us to:
X/A (Left foot/Right foot): Scissor/grip jibs. Rider pops, spins a right 270 onto a flat box and lands right foot forward. Pressing A will cause the rider to grip edge with front (right) foot, thus stopping the rotation. This allows the player to straight slide and simply "fall off" the end of the box and spin 90 degrees in either direction to land switch or reg, OR pretzel 270 (and up) out. This is done by quickly ollieing with the right analog stick and spinning (in this case left). Same principle applies for any sort of swap. Front or blind (on a box) is determined by which side to the box the rider lands on. Popping onto a box left foot forward to the right side and pressing X will initiate a blind swap toe dip. Landing left foot forward on the left side and pressing X will initiate a front swap toe raise.
Rails are essentially the same, scissoring is still done with the front foot's corresponding button, but the player must also push either left or right on the left analog stick in the direction of the desired swap/spin out. Example: Urban style down rail on the skier's right. Ollie(nollie) spin right 90 degrees to left foot forward skier slide. To front swap, I would press X (left foot) and left on the left analog to drop my heel. A quick ollie, and a left 180, and voila. K-feds and any combo of swaps/spin outs should be possible.
Back to the initial example of the wide box hypothetical.
If the player takes too harsh of an angle in approaching the box (box on skiers right, starts waaay left, and takes a sharp angle to his right) he will slide off to the right. Landing on either a box or rail directly under the bindings will produce the most stable slide. BUT, landing behind or in front of them allows you to do presses, IF the corresponding direction (up=nose press or down=tail press) on the right analog is pressed.
That's all I got control wise for now.
The option to design parks, move objects, build urban lips, bc jumps, wallrides, etc. would be fantastic.
Obviously, extensive rider customization (ala SKATE) is cruuuuucial. Sponsorship by ski manufacturers, boot cos., outerwear/accessory cos., etc. is important. Ski choice should affect rider's abilities i.e., stiff skis are better for jumps/pipe, soft skis more playful/buttery. Riding Bents in the park should feel different than Walls. Riding a rockered pow ski should feel different than a more traditional big mt. charger. In addition to this kind of customization, there needs to be a "style" feature. Sleepy, steezey, lazy VS. Athletic, aggressive, technical. The style choice should affect animations such as landing jumps, making turns, skating, popping, etc.
I think the inclusion of pros similar to SKATE feels about right.
For the love of god.....no collection challenges!!! I don't care if they're letters, coins, or fucking guitars...it's never fun. Ever. Challenges should resemble those in SKATE and focus on particular set-ups, tricks, photo ops, etc. They should involve all of the skills in the game and should serve the duel purpose of helping the player progress. There should be essentially 2 career paths. Comp skier vs. Film skier. Player chooses his focus. Ultimate goal to have Segment of the Year/Athlete of the Year at Powder Awards, or alternatively win JOSS/X/Dew. Get photos, make edits, earn sponsors as you progress.
Big focus on on-line multiplayer. Also, the ability to freeski and to set "drop in points". Real-time weather simulation.
Environments should be varied, and resorts should feel like living, breathing places. Strong balance between big mt., tree/pow/bc booter, park/jib.
Jibs/Rails: In addition to the Right Analog allowing you to press (by pressing forward or back assuming that your bindings are where they should be for either a nose or tailpress), Left and Right on the Right Analog stick should allow you to "crook slide" (pressure sensitive). Halfway = solid crook, whereas throwing the stick left or right quickly and completely should perform a surface swap.
Taps/bonks should be achieved simply by ollieing (whether already on the rail/jib or not) and "orienting" your skis with the right analog stick in the desired direction. For example: I'm skier sliding an up flat box left foot forward. At the kink, I ollie (quick pull back on the right analog --> quick flick forward) and spin 90 degrees left THEN I quickly push the right analog stick forward at the apex of the ollie, thus "lifting my toes" and tapping my tails on the flat section, before continuing the spin to switch out.
As I said before, X/A would be responsible for gripping rails/boxes (based on the lead foot). Maybe the rear foot further modifies the trick....one footers? Andy Parry style trickery? hmmm... Example: I'm sliding a rainbow rail right foot forward. I press and hold X (left foot) beginning at the apex of the rail and the skier lifts his left foot for a gnar gnar onefooter. OOOORRRR, I'm on a flat box right foot forward and I press X and it initiates a hippy killer or jack knife.
Something I didn't mention about grabs: As in SKATE, grabs can be modified after the fact by pressing the right analog stick in different directions. Example. I'm spinning a right rodeo 5 and I grab trailing safety by pulling the LT (left hand). While holding LT I NOW press up/forward on the right analog stick (remember ski "orientation") and my boring safety becomes the poked out high safety that Sammy Carlson does. Booyah.
Story Ideas:
1.)How about a film company, magazine, or even NS, is having a flim/photo session at your local mt., or a nearby mt., and you poach the setup and kill it. You catch their eye, and are invited to shred?
There should be multiple opportunities to get coverage, and the player should have the freedom to choose which opportunities to pursue or not. Your "career" will be affected by the choices you make, companies you decide to work with, etc.. NS, or an NS inspired website could act as a "challenge manager"...you could enter "on-line" edit contests similar to real contests. And of course, a mock superunknown.
Different Mountains:different resorts:Squaw Valley
breck/keywhistler
alta
ak haines/valdez
are sweden
SLC rails
boulder rails
troy rails
snowpark NZ
park city
small east coast hills
mt snow
japan

Randoms:1. Have powder skiing along with park2. A super unknown like thing3. A large amount of clothing, skis, boots, ect that you can choose from4. Sponsors including smaller companies like ninthward, moment, sweet5. Realistic tricks (no quad backies or 1800's)6. A sick story line7. All the main stream pros and then the smaller guy's like LJ and Steve Stepp8. Different career paths you can take9. and of course AFTERBANG

of course....

We should all bombard their email center with similar requests and maybe they'll understand the market they're dealing with.

i think it would be more convinving if we all, the ppl who want to send emails to EA, that we all send the same ideas, basically everything that ws mentioned, but kindof in our own words. just change up a couple words or so or you dont even have to change the words. just so they know that everyone is agreeing on the same ideas. Hubsta, howabout you post your entire letter you are sending them so we can all sed them the same email and bombard them with the same email from about thousands of us.

Yeah! I wanna take action too! Only difference is that I want it like Wii's version of Skate, like with the option of using the balance board.

i definitely think that to cross your skis in a grab you should just click in the analog stick while your choosing your grab in air, so like if you did a true tail then clicked the analog stick in then you would do a sick toxic grab
