EA skiing game

Again, I don't understand why you wouldn't use the right analog to pop off of jumps.
Why would you want two different "jumps"? It seems like that would over complicate things. If you're saying you'd just prefer all jumping to be assigned to a face button (ala Tony Hawk), I can respect that...I just disagree.
Have you played SKATE or Tiger Woods? If you pull back and push forward quickly, you get a small ollie/weak swing. That mechanic is literally perfect for a ski game in my opinion. Popping off of a small jib lip is just a quick flick of the stick, where as popping off of a 65ft. table requires a full on crouch and pop.
What exactly would you be opening up the right analog stick for? I'm not sure if you read my obnoxiously long post, but if you take a look at it (first section on general riding), I talk about ideas around buttering/pressing using the right analog stick (involves swinging the right analog stick in the "shove it" motion of SKATE, combined with throwing the Left analog stick in the same direction. My rationale being that in order to butter, you throw your weight out over your noses to flew the skis - right analog, and throw your hips to spin - left analog).

i really like that idea too with the whole starting out slow, you know dont spin as fast, aren't able to ski the best park and hit the biggest jumps right away.
basically tell the story of T-wall. starting out in Pennsylvania at a small resort like Wisp and make it big.
you should also throw in even some of the smaller companies of the industry like Uni Threads, EcHeadwear, Evogear and what not if you consider those small

and just to add on (i know ive posted a lot to this but im just that stoked) you should like i said just be the big name guy to all the locals you know the hot shot at your mountain and what not, do some smaller comps. then eventually like take a family trip to whistler or somewhere bigger or get some big company to randomly stop by your area to film or put on a comp or something and just somehow get more publicized as you get bigger and bigger and then eventually get on like redbull and win xgames just perfect layout

im suggesting using the right stick for ollies and butters. when you ollie, youre not popping like you would on a jump (youre not bending your knees and jumping straight up, youre gnna be on the backs of your skis and then using the ski flex to pop you up)...

what im saying is that when you hit a normal jump youre not ollieing on takeoff, youre just popping normally.

i think butters only need to be on one stick. you can use the right stick to butter and ollie and control your skis in the air and whatnot, and the left stick should be kept to movement and spins...

if doing a tail butter would require you to pull back on the right stick, then before every jump you hit, you would be doing a tail butter when you wind up, which is just not right.

i think youre trying to make things as realistic as possible, which is nice, but its making it too complicated... it'd be like having each analog stick controlling each foot in skate. sure maybe it'd be realistic but thats just too complicated.

I like where your head's at.
How about a film company, magazine, or even NS, is having a flim/photo session at your local mt., or a nearby mt., and you poach the setup and kill it. You catch their eye, and are invited to shred?
There should be multiple opportunities to get coverage, and the player should have the freedom to choose which opportunities to pursue or not. Your "career" will be affected by the choices you make, companies you decide to work with, etc.. NS, or an NS inspired website could act as a "challenge manager"...you could enter "on-line" edit contests similar to real contests. And of course, a mock superunknown.
The Gulch!! Stumble upon a shorthanded film crew building the Chad's takeoff....offer to dig/guinea pig it. GTS and boooyah.

ya that would be perfect just start out with a smaller film company like DOS media (no offense i love DOS but they aren;t like PBP) so DOS comes to your local mountain and sees you killin and asks you to film with them, then make a segment with them and keep blowin up then enter superunknown and actually be able to lose you dont just automatically win, and be able to edit your own footy and stuff like that and if you do win get in with Level 1 and so on so forth

ya and at one point he gives you a blowjob. and thats when the skiing stops and you become a pornstar

no not like tony hawk

only career options like a said. if the controls are like tony hawks then it will be gayy. MUST HAVE FREEROAM!! AND ALSO NEEDS REALISTIC JUMPS AND RAILS, NOT LIKE AMPED 3

NO 200FT JUMPS OR A GAY SHIT LIKE THAT

well they could make 200 footers but only on special occasions like a comp or sumthin and not every 5 secs like in amped or SSX.

Everyone has great ideas for this game so I think you guys should gather names to a petition so the EA could see that there is a market for a newschool skiing game.

ollies and nollies should be the same, butters should be the same as reverts, you should be able to customize what your grabs look like when you customize your character like how tweaked they are, or how far up the ski you grab, and you should be able to build booters anywhere you want in the backcountry and you should be able to change the kick and how big you want it to be, and depending on your skill level you can unlock bigger BC jump spots with film challenges. mountains should resemble themselves as they are in real life.you should start out at some small east coast mountain and then move out west to CO or Utah and then unlock other competitions and spots around the world , JOSS being the biggest one you unlock. you should also get picked up by companies to film like rage, Level 1, or poorboyz depending on your style.[/list]for urban, different legendary spots in cities that should be unlocked after you slay different spots, say like in salt lake city. you should have to get shots before police come and ruin your session.
different resorts:Squaw Valley
breck/keywhistler
alta
ak haines/valdez
are sweden
SLC rails
boulder rails
troy rails
snowpark NZ
park city
small east coast hills
mt snow
RETALLACK
summer camps like COC and windells should be unlockable and playable

i think every one wants to stay away from collecting points or some thing, but i dont see how they could incorporate into the game being only able to 7 then winning a comp then being able to 10. i think when you start you should already be kind of good, not just starting park(they do this is skate, your guy is already getting filmed). maybe as you get better your not just teaching yourself, other people can help you learn, you can pay money in the game to go to water ramps where you can learn inverts or pay money to go to camps( COC or something), another thing that holds you back in rl is confidence, should there be consequense for trying a double cork in the begining of the game?

Have it like gnarshmallow's stomped part and then if you stomp the tricks you do after bang. You can buy special afterbang in the store with money from comps. lolOh and do a racing career side too.. jokes

a simple but crucial thing is landing jumps on teh landings. i used to deliberately go too slow on ssx and amped, so that i would land on the landings, not 100 feet past them. if you overshoot, you should eat shit. hard.
one idea for the learning curve would be to not tell you how to do many tricks. in the manual it would tell you how to get on a rail, spin in a basic way, grab etc., but not cork or rodeo or anything complex. that way, you are limited to what you can do unless you start guessing, but as you move through the ranks, pros could "teach you stuff", like garrett russell could teach you that daffy double tip grab, or simon teaching a double front etc etc.
could work, dunno tho.
if not, have certain tricks unavailable, and you have to unlock them by beating pros or whatev, but still make them fucking hard to do.

Some more thoughts
-to help control how much you can do you'd have -attributes and you'd have to buy them with the money you earn -ex. with zero points in spin you can do a 5 at most. Then as you buy more points you can spin more
-this would also work for pop, rails, speed, straight up riding, ect
-money randomly around the mountain like in 'on tour' to help you get money faster-more spots/mountains should be unlocked as you get better -ex. start of in a small east coast mountain like mount snow. But then people notice you so you get enough money to move out to brek.-different opportunities to get noticed-have ns as the place where you can check what's going on -see the messages people sent you
-for example the people that want to sponsor you or your #1 fan
-upload your edits you make
-check the views on them

AND FOR THE EPIC STORY LINE

you start off as a no name kid who just tools around the mountain for fun. This will be the main thing for a while so you can get used to the controls maybe boost a few stats. Then one day Tom Wallisch is at your mountain, I chose him because he's hypy and most kids love him. CUT SCENE. You go in the park and you pull a sick line. Then when you finish the line your stoked and you buddies are giving you high fives, and then Tom Wallisch comes up, and says some shit like that was sick, how about you ski with me for a little bit. END CUTSCENE. Then before you go skiing with him you get like 2 or so stat boosts for free, and then of course you tear it up. After a little bit of shredding the mountain closes and Tom Wallisch comes up to you. CUTSCENE. He says some shit and then he says he wants to help get you noticed so he gives you some footy with him for the day and tells you to make an edit and he'll tell some sponsors to look out for you cause your going to be the next big name. END CUTSCENE. Then you put an edit up. After a little bit you get noticed after ripping it up on a vacation in brek when you accidentally cut into DOS filming. Then shit goes down, you keep playing it until you become a big name pro, you compete in events and bam instant game of the year.

Essentially, all the elements that exist in Skate in terms of story already exist in skiing. Magazine photoshoots, contests, demos, specialized pros with specific challenges (think Wallisch rail challenges, Morrisson big mountain challenges, Pollard backcountry challenges, etc). The physics of the Mega Ramp part of Skate are perfect for a ski game, the speed and hangtime is exactly what I would expect it to be for that. SSX had good amounts of change of "feel" for patches of ice versus powder, so to build on this is a great idea.
The controls have already been discussed, and honestly, butters = manuals, pop = flick it, orientation of skis = flick it. Grabs and such are all already there.
Also, a combined snowboard/ski game like this, though a lot more involved, would probably be the biggest possible success for the snow sports game market.
The thing that made Skate so good though, is the amount of dedication Danny Way, Dyrdek and other pros put itno making sure the game didn't suck. The same level of commitment would be needed by skiers if they wanted it to work.

they should take a lot of time to do this, they are so many thing going on in skiing now, EA game have to take the time to all undertand them to finally get a legit game on ps3; xbox or whatever.

this game have to be base on all what going on on NS

exactly that, and also for the grabs, make it like skate where if you tweak before grabbing it does a different grab then tweaking after, and tweaking before and after does another one.

Example: Right trigger then right stick right does a tweaked safety (RT = safety then tweak) right stick right THEN RT = for example mute, and if you then tweak it again in another direction, it tweaks the mute

im sure it was said already but just make sure he knows what AFTERBANG is and to add it to the game if its made lol.

DudE!!!! You know how in skate how they have like a book and it shows a picture of all the spots to get 'OWNED" or what ever? Well there should be a book like that with a picture of an urban rail and a description of it. Like Mike Henitiuk used to have a book of all handrails in calgary that had a picture and description. After you do a certain challenge, Mike Henitiuk could hand you the book for yourself to keep and you could pick rails by going to that page and clicking on it. Later on after you do the rail there should be a "Link" that shows you all your video footage of you on that urban. But the urban should be set up already so you juts drop in off a drop in ramp and go.

no!

this is a terrible idea. they need to make it like skate where everything is available right from the start, and you get better by learning the controls more... and progress just like you would in real life almost... rather than BS attribute points chosing how fast you spin.

Skate pulled this off perfectly, going back to the old style with attributes and points and whatnot = stupid.

I think that when you point yourself at a jump, a guage appears on the screen telling you what speed you need to clear it, case it, or overshoot it. That's the only thing I didn't like about amped 2, it was impossible to hit the landings. So just like a balance meter, it could change colours if you're going too fast or too slow. That way you can try to punch it to the bottom of a landing, but you'd be more succeptable to crashes. Or you could aim for the sweet spot and get less airtime, but have an easier landing.

i'm kinda freaking out picturing this game in my head right now with skate-like controls

please make it happen OP

Some great ideas bouncing around, next to no hate from anyone, and I think everyone's getting super stoked!
A couple of thoughts on what I've been reading.
1.) I'm really opposed to the "stat" idea. I appreciate the intentions: Slowing the progression so that it's more true to the "on the come up" feel...I mean, it does seem ridiculous to potentially throw a dub cork 12 in your first am slope run. BUT, I think that if the controls and physics are spot on and as in depth as some people have suggested, you won't be pulling dubs until you've reeeaaally gotten a feel for the game. I also sort of like the idea that having limited "stat points" to assign to different skills because it forces you to sort of "define" your riding and specialize (Jon vs. Will Wesson). BUT, I think it just sort of makes the game too arcadey and moves away from the organic, authentic feel. I DO like the idea of ski selection, ski length, and binding placement playing a role though. This could be a sort of compromise. Ski flex, sidecut, length, waist width, mounting location, etc. should all affect your riding.
2.) Storyline. Frankly, I think the quickest and easiest way to tank a game is a cheesy storyline/plot. This game's mechanics and gameplay should take center stage. I DO however absolutely love the idea of rising from obscurity to standing atop the freeskiing world. I think the "plot" should be really minimal. No gimmicky nonsense. I just want to be a talented young skier, looking to catch a break and ride along side my heros!! Gay, I know.
3.) Someone suggested bumping into pros who then act as tutors and mentors, ala SKATE. I love this idea. It's a good way to introduce some of the more complex and difficult tricks, as well setting up opportunities for coverage and attaining more sponsors.
4.) A huge part of skiing involves scoping things out. Someone threw out the idea for a speed meter that would help you find the proper speed to land in tranny on big jumps. I don't really like the idea, but it gave me another, haha...no offense bud!
Shaun White featured absolutely awful and incompetent computer controlled non-player riders. Here, they should really serve a purpose. They should stand at the top of jump in-runs, and yell drop. You should be able to see where they drop from, whether they scrub speed or sit on their tails, etc. It would be cool if it was necessary to speed check jumps, peep landings, and all around keep it real. You don't throw a sw 10 the first time you hit a 80 ft. step down. You should set a "sesh marker", watch others hit the jump, speed check yourself, straight air to find the sweet spot, and THEN go off.
If it's not obvious, I want a sim. hahaha

Depending on how many hits there are in a row and what the flow's likeYou don't want to have to stop between every jump. I know where you're coming from. It'd be sick in the free roam mode, so you could just bomb around the mountain.

i personally think any game where you have to speed check would kind of kill the fun. Sure it would be real etc, but really...no one wants to almost hit a jump 4 times, then hike back up. People want to be able to do like in skate where you can just cruise around stringing stuff together smoothly and flawlessly.

but who doesnt want to bomb the whole mountian and go for the next jumps landing or just get as much air as possible, i think they should not have like a speed limit, like in skate you cant get over like 45 ish mph, on a big mountian you shouldnt max out and only go so fast

gotta also have like pow days when the park is not groomed and its slow and you go slay the BC but i shouldnt be allll park gotta have some nice pow in there like filming with nimbus and such

Alright man, this is how it should be.

Skate 2 and Stoked combinded with more options!!!

CAREER- is pretty much the superunkown funneled down into a video game. You start out as the superunkown, and your goal is to obviously make it to the TOP. You start off at your home mountain (prefrebly the players choice from the mountains in the game) and your not very good you have no style and you just realized skiing is what you wanna do with your life. So you go through earning fame points and money so you can travel to new and better locations. You do it ALL, from city rail jams, to the best terrain parks in the U.S. for competitions and just shredding (Breck, Keystone, PC, Mammoth, Whistler, Are... etc.) to filming in deep snow in Rettalack in British Columbia? Not sure, but defiantly the place where tanner hall shreds the deep pow. You go through doing everything an aspiring pro would do. Trying to get noticed, and Earning the fame points and getting that Skrilla! (Cash Money)

CITY RAIL JAMS + URBAN MISSIONS- You earn small amounts of fame points from the rail jams and you earn a little money to travel to like one place so you can have a chance to earn even more money to travel even more from like a slope-style or pipe comp. As for the Urban missions you gotta GTS it (Get the Shot) for your superunkown! or promo vid. So there are multiple locations in the city of the resort for handrails, wall rides, gaps and jibs. After Rail jams you can go back and shred the set-up perhaps if you win the rail jam? i dunno! But the main thing that will get you noticed is your video!! It would be nice if there were just a shit load of possibilties! Endless ways of doing things.

PARK n PIPE- one of the key points of the game. This is your training ground, this is the place you will progress the most at first. Just like for most people in real life. Remember as the game begins you blow at skiing. So what do you do? You ski your ass off! and the more you do it the better you get! For an example you cant always get the right axis you have to try a few times, or you cant always get a true tail (Blunt) or you cant do all the grabs you have to start off with the simpler ones first (mute, saftey, japan, tail) But the more you play the better looking and steezier tricks you get. So when you get really good you can pretty much make anything look good like a tindy 9 like brogan. Even though orginally tindy's are gay looking. But you gotta make it so you can just pick the game up and get sucked in, you gotta be able to do a decent amount of tricks. Competetions could be Dew tour, Winter X games, and you have to have JOSS. that will be the biggest Jumps and features you can hit in the game. So maybe after you beat the game you can do your own competetion and you can build whatever features you want! Perhaps even a little bigger than JOSS. You should also be able to take your skis off if you wanted to hike a rail or jump in the park. Or you could just set a respond point so you can just restart from that point.

POWDER- I feel like this might be kind of hard to grasp. This should be one of the best and funniest parts of the game. It should be ridiculously fun to just shred through some trees in deep deep snow. Obviously you will need some powder skis for this. You dont get to shred pow until your sponsor pays for your trip to ski pow. So this may come a little later in the game. Trick will be much harder at first but again the more you do the better you get. You wont be able to 180 a 20 ft cliff right away you gotta get better at skiing pow and landing switch. It would be cool to be able to build lips off cliffs and cornices. And there are a few gaps and specific spots to build jumps at the different back country locations. LIke pyramid or chads gap in utah. Which would make your superunkown that much better! It would also be key to have locations like in stoked (Alaska) for Heli Skiing. You could also have skins to hike up something real short.

CONTROLS(xbox360)-

Left analog is for rotations

Right analog-

Air- use the R- Trigger for your right hand and the L-Trigger for your left hand. At first the Right stick is used to make various grabs depending on the direction pointed. used in conjunction with the trigger gives you a sick grab trick. and once you have the grab, the stick is freed up to tweak the grab, or click the R-stick and poke the grab in the air.

Rails- once you ollie or nollie on the rail you can use the the Triggers as your feet (Right and Left) to grip the rail or box so you can switch up, spin-off and pretzel the feature. you can use the right stick to nose press, tail press, nollie switch ups/ nolle spins out, ollie switch ups and ollie spins out. You figure out the more technical tricks as the game plays out.
