Dumbest thing a shop guy has ever said to you....

bahaha, that's hilarious. maybe I'll call up dicks sporting goods or sports authority and ask them this to see what they say.

ok dumbest thing a shop guy has ever said to me, shop guy aka Noteefa

Me: alright heres my skis, bindings, boots, how much do i owe u?

Noteefa: Nothing get out of here

Me: no seriously dude thats like stealing

Noteefa: Get the fuck outta here my boss is coming

Ok the think that pisses me off the most about me local shop is they love to say i'm on "too much ski". Every time they say that or something like " the 190 katana would be more suitable for you, you could probably actually use that one" I want to fucking slap them. Next time they start on this (done it 3 times now) Im going to fucking tell them, "I'm fucking 6'4" you morons, i'm taller than 95% of your customers and you have never seen me ski. for all you know I ski like seth fucking morrision (i wish) and since I am the on of the biggest people to come into your shop and you still think it is too much ski for me, you obviously think that it is too much ski for everybody. SO WHY THE FUCK DO YOU SELL IT IF YOU THINK NOBODY CAN SKI IT, fucking morons". Actually I probably won't, I'll just think it in my head and smile and say "yes you're right, those 165 pocket rockets look perfect".

argh

I was a shop guy once. I said dumb things on a daily basis.

"Wow that _____ looks so cool on you"

"You should actually step up and buy the ________ its worth the extra money"

"Body armor? yeah that stuff is totally great for learning rails"

One russian kid left my shop wearing this HU$TLER hat, neon green raver shorts, a cammo facemask, aviators, and this desert cammo jacket because he would just buy and put on anything i pointed at. I am a horrible person. It was also -30 out.

the best is when u ask a question at a shop that isnt really freeski oriented and they just reply "i dont know"

thats the worst, when they are trying so hard to convince you that your poles are too short and they should form a "90 degree angle bla bla bla" I dont give a fuck, I know how I ski and I know how I like my poles

i had something to that extent. two years ago right after i got my 05/06 karmas i was skiing them at big mountain and this guy sees my skis and says "volkl karmassss niiiiiiice. good for skiiing the poooooooow."

I was riding up a chair lift with this guy a few years ago and hes like

him: twintips, eh?

me: yea

him: i invented those you know

me: cool

turned out though he went to school with mike nick and other line founders and made a pair for his science fair project.

haha yeah..gotta love it, one time my dad and i were on a lift (east coast mountain) and we was on vokl mantra's and i was on some salomon guns and the conversation went like this:

Us: hey how you doing today?

guy: Pretty good. Looks like you guys would be doing great if there was 14 more inches of fresh snow on the ground.

I disagree with shop owners not caring. They defiantly know that a good amount of there sales come from twin tips because of the "hip" graphics and media coving the events of pro skiers.A good amount people end up getting twins who don't even ski park. As someone who has worked at a ski shop and that has been affiliated closely with 3 different shops.

It's very true most guys don't know shit about the product besides what they are told. I found it amazing at how misinformed most shop salesmen are. Specifically with the damn marker bindings. The shop I worked at got fuckloads of them...there fine for the weekend warriors, but I had a big disagreement with another guy working in the shop about them. I think alot of shops get them because they are relatively inexpensive and a regular skier wont kill them. Theres a place for them in shops, I geuss your best bet is to go into a shop well informed about your product, esspecially if you 14 years old because nobody believes you at that age about anything. Parents help in that situation too....back in the days...

Mounting, this will never be fixed. I can understand fuck ups because those guys mount about 30 to 50 pairs of skis a day. And its quite the process if you have the right equipment. Your best bet is to go super early in the season and see if they will do them that day. and if you want centre...DEMAND it! They have no liability as soon as you sign the wavier on your receipt so they shouldn't even care. Its not there fault they are afraid of a lawsuit, morons try it everyday.

But yah, stick to smaller shops and get to know the guys that work there. Then people will hook it up.

no seriously shop owners couldn't give a shit about armada or line or 4frnt

they are well aware that most people simply go to sites like jibij or evogear and buy their shit off those sites, twin tips are still a very small portion of sales for the ski market, every year it grows bigger, but still carvers and race skis kill twin tips

so usually now shops only carry the twins of the bigger names (k2, atomic, fischer, volkl, salomon) because they're more likely to sell just cause their name is well known, and parents are more likely to buy it for their kids,

my local shop only sold about 6 pairs of spk boots last winter, they aren't even carrying them this year, i'm sorry to say but at least out east racing still dominates the market

shop guy, sounding surprised: "The factory center is different from the real center!"

after measuring it to double check where to drill for my bindings.

BTW my shop actually is pretty cool... they just don't sell a huge amount of twintips, and 98%of the people that buy them don't even know about center mounting. When my Bro took in a pair of symmetrical Line Invaders, they had never even seen taht before, but they knew what to do.

Me and my friend went into Dick's today just because of this thread and asked about the snowboards. the guy that helped us was a huge jock with a fag flip and pierced eyebrows.

Us: so whats snowboards would you recommend for the half pipe.

Him: ( while looking at the womens boards) basically this one because the front and end are the same width.

Us: really?

Him: you want a nice flexy and soft one that can also turn easy. you guys looks like boarders you propably no more than me. (you actually want a stiff board for pipe)

Us: no actually this is are first year we just wanted to see what you guys recommened.

Him: well these boards just came out and i dont no to much, but i no that youll have trouble turning your first few weeks, i sure did.

Us: really, well can you tell us which board is best for grinding poles.

Him: id say this one but im not to sure

then we just walk to the golf section and putted around.

I dont know why all you guys take your skis to shops to be mounted, they always stuff up and its easy as hell to do it yourself

me: hi, do you guys sell dalbello boots here?

shop guy: yes we do. (pulls a pair of dolomite racing boots off the rack)

me: ya, um those arnt dalbellos, those are dolomites, and theyr racing boots. im a freestyle skier and those wont work for me; theyr way too stiff.

guy: well just so you know theres no diiference between a race and freeride boot.

me: um, then why does it say race series on the boot?

guy: i dont know....

me: i think ill check out those rossi scratches over there.

guy: ya um i dont think you want those.....who would want a white boot?

me: (after trying them on) ya i think ill take these

guy: ok ill go ring them up for you

me: wait, dont you have to heat fit these to my feet?

guy: no, these boots cant be heat fitted.

me: then why does the boot liner say heat fit on it?

guy: why do you ask so many questions?

i get super pissed off and finally just buy the boots anyway cuz they were on sale for like 200 bucks

he's right, a 120 flex boot labeled race will most likely be the same as the boot labeled freeride. its also not neccesary to mold the boots, the mold better to your feet without the heat, it just takes longer.

dude you really shouldn't treat the guy like such an isiot, bucause in this case, you were acting like a stuckup dousche.

Im nice so I heard him out...

"The way the twin tip started was because shape skis aren't as fast as straight skis and people were having trouble outrunning long slides. Now with the twin tip design they are able to stay afloat from the rear if they cant out run them."

Thanks Old Man Winters at the Tukwilla REI in Washington State. You are a true Darwin Award winner. Continue to make us dumber with your amazing pletheria of incorrect knowlage. When you get tired of being an idiot I believe Walmart is hiring greeters.

ha ha, thats so true, at the shop i usally shop at, (its in the um... wealthy part of the state) people will come in and just say "i need skis for my kid'' without the kid, i once saw a person walk out of there with a 1200 dollar bill, just for clothing!

although the shop is smart about there stuff.

and were laughing with them, not at them... well not really, but i get your point.

bahahha, what is that guy talking about? I guess we don't have to worry about avalanches anymore, we can just ride on top of them!

so i work in a shop... and i ask one of the other store managers this

Me: hey man i heard that we are carrying oakley clothing agian this year?

Him: haha NO why would we do that? oakley stuff sucks!

Me: WTF?! i flip out all over his ass... haha

i am so tired of techs trying to tell me where to mount my skis.

me: mount these at +4

him: your supposed to mount these at this line (+7)

me: they won't ski swich as well like that

him: switch???

me: backwards

him: you dont need to ski backwards!

me: im pretty sure i do..

at this point a knowledgable employee came over and took my skis, mounted em up in the right spot and i was happy

Biran Putnam- these boots are awfull! you need new ones forsure! who the hell sold thsese to you?!?

My Mom- uhhh.... you did.

Bwahaha.

Now the real question...

Are some ski shops more or less dis-honest than car repair shops.

stopped by Mc sporting goods in mid january,

guy- can i help you

me- just curious what kind of skis you guys carried because i didnt know you did

guy- well right now i dont know

me-why

guy- well ski season is already over and they are all put away

me- im talking about snow skis

guy- yes i know

me-wow i knew you guys were stupid but not that stupid

other people in the store around me- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

almost a month ago i walked in and the guy was like freshtivals today.

me-dont think so

another time- this is scientists convo with him

scientist-are you guys gonna bring in idea

dude-whats idea?

scientist-one of the best movies this year, with ericpollard andy mahre pep fujas??

dude-whos eric pollard??

another with me

me-yah so im getting a gl2 pretty soon

guy-no way man gl1 is definitly the best camera ever

he also said that ever since look partnered with rossignol they suck?

so i went too a shop to get my seths mounted.

I got went to pick up my skis and stayed and talk to the shop tech cause she was a hot girl. She told me that the Marker people told her that if anyone came in with a binding over 12 DIN setting to take them from that person unless they can prove they are a pro. Only pros can have that large of a DIN and they are stolen if they cant show there a pro.. HAHHAHAHAHA best thing is that there store about 50 miles away caries the Marker Jester, which is a 16 DIN.. Funny though. Man, I need to go back and get that girls number.

Not reallly the dumbest thing they've said, but last week i got my scratch sprayers. 2 days later i got them back. I look at them and the toe-piece for the binding is not screwed down, i can stick a pencil in there! So i go to the guy and say "hey, wtf" he goes "our machine has a clutch and it didn't go down. "did you check it?" i asked. "yeh" he said. I proceed to flip out and get it redone and a free wax. Then my dad got his skis there 2 days later and his brake didn't have the screw in it and kept falling off. He saw the manger about this and we got 15% off.

haha, how stupid.

not something dumb at all, pretty pointless actually, but today I was looking at the retro crowbars..

me: can I see those?

dude: sure

me:sick goggles, do you have one with a hi intensity lens?

dude: no, sorry.

me: nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Not going to lie, I definitely brought some shit on myself when I was younger (putting in a IV in the skier type, because I was frustrated with my bindings always blowing off).

Back home, I would drive 30 minutes one way to get to The White Room. I have skied with the owners, and am psyched on the product they carry, and have always received top notch service and advice. I love small shops that actually care.

And now I need to find a new one. Blimey.

i was buying my new skis.i was lookin at 165 guns and telling my mom they are perfect. My mom not convinced asked the shop guy.he said they were way to big and they would fit him even though he was like 6 feet tall.my mom thinking that he was right dident let me get the skis.finally after about a week of explaning how they fit me good if enything a little small and saying that the guy was an idiot and dident know his shit she finally let me get them.

Goober: Well, I live in Michigan, and am thinking about some Prophet 130s. What would you say about that?

Goober: It seems that they would be pretty decent for that whole skiing on handrails thing, eh?

Karen: Those are strictly a powder ski

Goober: We get powder here, every once in a while.

Karen: They would be difficult in the park as well

Goober: At only 13 mm, they should be pretty nimble, don't you think?

Goober: Wait. You ski in a park? What's that?

Karen: Hand rails? riding rails and park right?

Goober: Wait. Who would ski in the park? There are trees and grass in a park.

Goober: I saw some kids skiing down a handrail the other day, and I want to do it too.

Karen: Ok riding rails you definitely want a smaller waist on the skis

Goober: Why?

Karen: Park meaning terrain park at the resorts

Goober: Oh. What's a terrain park?

Karen: Because these are a super big waist, and they would be very difficult to maneuver

Karen: Line Prophet 90 Alpine Ski--click here

Karen: These would be much better for you

Goober: Oh. So the only thing that would be a factor in manuverablility would be the waist?

Karen: Terrain parks have rails and jumps set up in a special area of the resort

Karen: Length as well, people who ride rails generally get a little shorter length so they can spin easier too

Goober: I dunno... the prophet 90s have weird graphics.

Goober: And they look brittle.

Karen: They are very close to the 130

Karen: And they are not brittle, they can definitely hold up for you

Goober: If they are close to the 130, why are they better?

Karen: They are not close to size of the 130, they have very similar graphics

Karen: ALso they are basically the same ski except for the dimensions

Goober: Oh ok. Thanks.

Karen: No problem.

today I realized that Poland (where I live) really is a 3rd world country.

in one of the best ski shop in my city:

me: I'm looking for some nice freestyle skis;

guy: We don't sell any FS skis, 'cause no one rides them.

than i started to laugh laudly.
