Dumbest thing a shop guy has ever said to you....

this isnt the dumbest thing is more like a funny thing. This was when i was ordering my jacket.

shop guy-so what size?

me- ahhh xxl

shop guy- fucking idiot(while laughing)

me- hahahaha

shop guy-those are nice skis, we have some just like that, we have k2 twintips and burton twintips

haha while my friend was getting his mounted

i just read this whole god damn thread and all i have to say is some shop people are idiots.

i'm a lucky kid in that my shop person isn't a complete retard.

gettin a pair of jib skis

me- so if these skis will be used 100% percent park shouldn't i get them true centre mount?

guy- oh no, you should have them at least 3-4 back from core centre that way youll be able to turn much easier when your NOT in the park

....some people are just stupid

i was at a shop looking for some 180 armadas and the shop didnt have any...

so i was alright thanks for helping me and he says y dont u get these 160s these are the exact ski that t hall rides on. i said u dumbass he has a pro model and rides size's that are in the 180 region.

what they will do to sell you something..

and heres another story. i was in a ski/board shop and i pick up some skis to look at him.. and i guess the guy thought i snowboarded but he was like man dont u hate thos faggot skiers? i was like wtf? i ski... and he was ohh sry man i thought u boarded from the shirt u were wearing ( it was a burton shirt).

^^Thall doesn't ride his pro model for some reason, he seems to be riding the ARG's, the JP v.Juliens, and the pipe cleaners (for park/pipe).

this happened a while back...like 2001..at "la poubelle du ski" on st-laurent in montreal(went for fun)

i pick up a pair of skis, start flexing them

some guy comes running from the back, and screams:

shop guy: "hey you can't do that!!"

me: "uhm, are you serious?

shop guy: "only qualified experts are allowed to flex our skis"

me: "ok, can you describe the flex pattern to me then?"

shop guy: "whats flex pattern?"

I immediately left

Haha.. this happened like 2 years ago when I was shopping for some new sticks...

I picked up a pair of dynastar Troublemakers. A guy came over and was like

"ah, checkin out twintips eh?"

Me "yeah, just checkin these out.."

"yeah you shouldnt get those if you want a really good twintip ski"

"Why not?"

I remember the guy then told me I shouldnt get dynastar because they are going out of buisness and they make really shitty skis that are horrible quality. Then he tried to show me K2's. I was like

"you know K2's are made in China and Dynastars are made in Chamonix right? Why would Dynastars be worse quality than K2?"

He goes "where is Chamonix?"

"Its in France"

"well, thats the problem.. they are made in France.."

"why would that be a problem? Skiing is HUGE in France"

"I wouldnt say huge man.."

"are you serious here?"

"yeah?"

"dude... do you follow skiing at all?

"well yeah.. I do ski.."

"so you've heard of Candide Thovex.."

"....whats that?"

I laughed and proceeded to leave

Its so funny too.. because now I work at a shop that competes with the Sports Authority accross the way... I always hear the funniest shit "well they told us.... (insert bullshit here)... so shouldnt we get these?"

For example... on black friday this family came in... two parents and their son... he was like 17 or something.. scrawnyer than I am.. kid weighed like 120 lbs and was about 5'9. (I remember because i did the shop work)

Anyways... they were looking at boots and pointin to stuff. I came over to help them.

The dad was like "wow, you have a big boot selection here."

Me: Yeah a lot of these are last years models though, so its not as big as it looks..

Kid: I just got these (points to a pair of Dalbello Krypton STORMS... A womans boot)

Me: Wait.. You know those are ladies boots right?

Kid: what?! no.. Thats not what the guy at the other shop told me...

Me: Yeah, those are totally womans boots.. they are good, but they are womans boots.

Father: uh oh... well, can you help us size him for some MENS boots.. (laughs).

I sized him up to a size 25.5, and immediately pulled out a pair of last years krypton rampages for 199 dorrah.

kid slipped them on "they feel way narrower, and they are way tighter in front.. my toes are touching"

Me:"are they bunched up? or just touching..."

"just touching, but they arent supposed to do that right?"

Me: "well lean forward like you're skiing, are they touching now?"

"no"

Me: then you're good

Mom: "the guy at the other store said they should never touch the front of the boot though..."

Kid: "ow.. they are also wayy too small man.. way narrow"

I had her pull out the boots that they got the kid at TSA... they were equivlant to a mens size 26.5. a full size too big. I showed them with the boot shell fit stick...

either way.. the kids foot didnt even fit at dalbello boot at all... its far too narrow for him.

I got him into a technica Agent 100... a much wider fit for his much wider foot...

"these fit PERFECT!"

Another satisfied customer...

This idiot in Beaver Creek, CO was telling my brother that 167's were to big for him. he is 5' 3". I was like can we just get some 167's and hes like thats not a good idea, and im like well we are buying them, thanks for your advice bitch

a while back last sesion maybe i was at a ski/boardstore just looking and this guy comes up to me and starts talking about how much he hates skiers and im like dude fuck you and walk out

at the same store last month

shop guy, hi can i help you?

me,um no not really im just looking at twins

sg,you really dont want those

me,well i do a lot of jumps and rails

sg,well those will really slow you done

me,speed really doesnt matter to me

sg,umm why?

me, beacause i like to do rails and jumps and stuff

sg,you know your really not soppused to do that stuff on skis even twins are made to turn better

i just walk out

So steriotypical man. I have a local mom and pop shop that is almost completly dedicated to freeride/freestly skiing. I would quess that probably half of their skis are freestly oriented twin tips. And they know their shit better than everyone i know.

haha this thread is enjoyable.

i remember when i first went to get a bootfit and after telling the guy i wanted something flexy for park what can also be used to cruise the groomers etc..so he sizes me up and brings out a pair of salomon course boots (100% race boot 130flex which you can't even more in)..i said uhhh no way manthese are a race boot, so then he gets be a pair or salomon performa 4's to try (TOTAL opposite, absolute bottom end boot which anyone could flex to the ground)..he tried, but obviously the guy wasn't the best bootfitter around..i couldn't bear it so i left.

Maybe he was just trying to get rid of the course boots that a re so hard to sell..but me asking for soft and flexy, and then him putting me in the stiffest boot salomon make was just ridiculous haha..

I work in a ski shop so I'm sure i could get myself on this thread with the shit i've had to say when people come in the store asking for race skis and current FIS standards etc which i honestly have very limited knowledge on..so everyone makes their mistakes.

Making shit up to someone that knows what they are talking about is a recipe for disaster though haha

B i assume is US outdoor. A is ski chalet??? yeah... well US is better. ski chalet tried to rip me off with boots

Dude, I get so annoyed with those people that come in and bitch about racing shit.

Just 2 days ago a guy came in looking for some atomic race ski that we obviously dont have. He asked me what I know about it. I came out all honest "I knownothing about ski racing, other than the skis are super stiff, super narrow, and you can go ridiculusly fast on them" he then was like wait.. you probably snowboard dont you...

I told him absolutely not, I've skied all my life.

he then decided to tell me I wasnt a real skier, and asked what skis I had. When I told him, he denounced my skis as weak and that they are not stable enough at high speeds. I told him I was no racer, and I wouldnt be caught dead in a speedsuit and thats just my style. he walked off all pissed.

I mean, I was honest, completely honest that I know zip about what he was talking about. I'm the only guy with lots of racing experience at that store as it is, and even when I WAS racing, I was on Kent Kreitler pros haha (this was definitely a while back). Its just annoying when racers like that basically call freeskiing lame...

if u were making a refernece to the puffy 3.5 anti- freeze pants......as the odd colored poncho

then u sir are mis informed.........oakley's duribility 3 years ago with todays colors, designs, and selections.......would equal

THE GREATEST OUTERWEAR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Umm thats the entire purpose behind sponsorship and the reason that companies pay their athletes the amount they do.

- because they ARE influential.

for being honest he knew nothing about racing and for sticking up for himself? what should he have done? sold him the most expensive atomics and given him the stiffest boots?

So i give the shop my skis after bending a break:

Shop guy (50 years old plus): Try to land more straight

me- walked in to the shop

him- let me know it you need any help.

me- thanks ill let you know

me-then i go to look at the new SPK boot

him- you looking for a new boot?

me- no just looking at the new spk

him- well what kind of boot do you have?

me- salomon foil

him- well the solomon foil is probly the best boot ever made

me- not for me i would rather have the spk because all i do is ride park and their so much more comfortable to me

him- what kind of ski do you ride?(thinking about powder and trying to second guess me)

me - i ride the rossignol sprayer fs centered and they would'nt fair well in powder and I live in North Carolina where we hardly get any fresh powder.

him-? confused look

me- then i just left

The shop I go to has a lot of guys that mount the skis that know their shit, and they do a great job, but I remember the manager of the store trying to convince my friend to sell his Bacons and pick up some Elan QuadOnes. So silly. But we walked into this shop with 7 pairs of skis to get mounted and we just sat in the shop talking about skis with the guys and they did a great job on all the mounts, one guy even through in a pair of super old school Marker MR's to put on my rock skis for free.

friday i went up to richmond hill to try on that spyder suit bibby's been rocking...

me: hey i'm looking for the spyder revy suit...i called earlier.

softgoods chick: oh sure the mediums just over here on the maneqin.

me:actually could i try the XL first?

chick: you're funny!

(i'm 6'2")

Ya that gets me so angry, every time I've gone into my local shop to look at skis somebody comes over and tries to tell me I ride "too much ski."

Heres the situation: I'm 5'8" looking at a pair of 171 AR6's prob should have even gone 176

SG: Lookin at some twins

ME: Ya

SG: What kind of skiing do you do?

Me: Pretty much 100% Park

SG: O then those are way too long for you, you want these (Pulls out 160s)

Me: No definitely not those are wayy to short

SG: Well if you get the 171's you wont be able to spin or get onto rails

Argued with him for a little before buying the 171's as I intended to which they proceeded to mount 2 back after I specifically told them CENTER  one hundred and forty times.  I was so pissed.  But after that they felt bad and hooked me up with a free pair of binders so it was ok.

Aight well i was at the sports authority looing for my new board. The guy comes up and says, i say hey whatsup while im looking at the board i want. he goes not much man, is that a good board your looking at? I say ya it got the good wood award this year by tws. Him, oh really it must be pretty good than, you wanna buy it.....

I was going to buy my PE a couple years back and this asshole tries to sell me a pair that are already mounted, they were mounted something like a foot back leaving almost no tail.

-me: bro these skis are mounted funny

-asshole: what are you talking about they're perfect, we set them back so you can go faster and do jumps and railings, its called feeskiing

-me: dude Ive been coaching freeskiing for a while now im not an idiot and those binding are not for my weigh AND they're garbage because you mounted them wrong, unless you give me a discount for redrilling them im not buying

-asshole: doy...

And then I roundhouse kicked him in the face and left

this was a long time ago like 2003 or 2002, when dumont placed in the x games, and in maine it was kind of a big deal in the shops. i was at hill top ski and bike, looking around at all the new gear for the year, and they had a newpaper clipping of dumont from when he placed in x games. one of the workers just looks at me and says man that kid sucks, they just found him in a gymnast and slapped skis on his feet, he cant ski outside the park. i looked back at him and i was like really? well when i saw him ripping the shit out of bumps at the sunday river last year looked like he was skiing way better then must people ripping bumps. the guy and his co worker both rolled thier eyes at me and one of them said he will be a no body in a year or two. and needless to say he dumont is huge, and that shop went under. Also that shop tried so hard to sell me the shity must $ skis every time i went in, I'm happy they went out of bussiness, they sucked

i'm just glad that at my preferred local shop they don't give me the bull shit "you're on too much ski" they even recommended 189 seths to me as an awesome ski, so i'm glad i don't have to deal with that bull shit, but any other store i roll into usually asks what size i'm on and what i what size i want and then look at me like i'm crazy, one tried to tell me that if i wanted to center mount that i should down size, they're fucking morons i swear to you they really are dumont is like 5'4" and rocks a 176 yet i'm 6'1" and they're trying to pawn off 160's on me? fuck that shit

So i was at my local shop and my little bro is trying to pick out skis.My mom was there also so she was asking the questions.

My mom- "So which one of these 8 skis are the best??"

Sales guy- "Well...... you only wanna pick a twinitip based on its looks."

I told my mom the guy was an idiot, and we bolted out of there.

I used to race. I ordered in some skis and bindings, and they mounted them up for me and my dad picked them up and put them in a ski bag. I get to pre season camp and pull out my skis, only to find they are junior skis not the adult ones I had ordered in. I call up the store and ask wtf is going on. They told me they had decided the adult skis were "too much ski" for me. Yet still charged for the adult version...

When I took them back to the store to get the skis I had originally ordered, and watched them take the bindings off. I noticed 8 extra holes on each ski, hidden by the plates and bindings. They obviously weren't gonna tell me that they were remounted.

Another time, I was in a cheap sports store and was checking out the skis. I picked one up and started flexing it. The guy flips out at me and tells me I'm gonna break the ski. He proceeds to flex it BACKWARDS, ie by putting pressure on the base. I laughed.

There are plenty more, but I forget.

here, you should check out these new salomon boots...just came in today, theyre called the spk and since theyre park specific theyve got more flex than any of our other boots
