Dubai and Ski Dubai

They're in the middle of the fucking desert. Arabs skiing are just trying to act like the western cultures they claim to hate so much. The level of hypocrisy is limitless.

if theres a generation of kids thinking like that, then the worlds gonna be pretty fucked i think. i think/hope its not like that though.

if u wanna promote skiing, maybe organise like a freestyle ski night once a week or something, where everyone can ski together, then they can feed of eachother and peeps can bring friends etc...
 
let me outline it like this to you. my grandfather was the British ambassador to Saudi Arabia way back. he personally knew Bin Laden's father. of course the rich Arabs generally don't hate the west but thats basically because they're rich. Who ran planes into the WTC? The majority were Arabs.

OPEC and the Gulf States are laughing at how royally they are screwing the west right now.

Screw Dubai, that extravagant shit does not impress me.
 
Ill let you guys in on a little secret, ill probably get thron in jail or somthing for this, But i happen to know a guy who usd to work for the ministry here and he tells me that the Giverment actually pay Al quida and terrorist groups like that to get out of Dubai, I mean look at saudi the arabs are bombing the expats there all the time and considering UAE is 90% expat it would be a bad place if that did happen. Now all shut up with the pretty boy debate and get back onto my question.
 
SO if i fly to Dubai to visit and ski and spend money, i would be supporting a bunch of radical Islamic extremists who want to destroy Israel and America too? no thanks
 
Its a shame that this thread has turned into a political debate. The question was:

With Snowboarders outnumbering skiers 10 to 1 - you have a tough road to travel.

You need rail jam type of events or sponsored comps for skiers only. If I were in your shoes, I would contact the major manufacturers and ask if they will send you product to toss and or award for best trick or whatever the criteria. Once you have a commitment, then ask the manager of the slope for a date to host the event. Hopefully they will do the advertising for you.

Obviously that is the short version, but if you want more park skiers, then you need to get them more interested to come out through marketing/advertising. Free stuff gets peoples attention.

i dont know where you got the idea to say its one of the nicest parks in the world...

but at the same time i dont know why everybody's hating so much. things like that are pretty incredible, and its not their fault our economy is fucked. last time i checked, dubai didnt have oil.

Dubai has plenty of Oil, But its going to run out in 30 years they think so there using the money from the oil to build tourism so the money will keep flowing.
 
Dubai and its excessiveness like having an indoor ski slope in the desert is the same reason why we will not have REAL skiing in REAL mountains one day. Its things like this that contribute to global warming. This planet wast just NOT meant to have skiing in some places, golf courses and massive air conditioned buildings in the desert. I dont even want to know how much energy that ski resort wastes. And for what? So some tourist can say, OMGZ I went skiing indoors on my vacation! The skiing will be shit anyways.

I personally will never go to Dubai, because I do not support the idea. Anyways, thats my rant.

 
Yeah, as i said becfore they use the condesnation and left over water from the ac units and pour it onto the slopes to make the snow, last time i checked that was recycling, i am correct?
 
this planet was just not meant to have skiing in some places,

it was also not meant to have cars and planes and and big heated indoor swimming pools with wave machines so that tourists can say OMGZ i went swimming indoors.

I dont really understand why so many are hating on dubai in this thread??
 


I can't even imagine the ungodly amount of money that probably went into that thing, or the energy costs of running it.

And if its about the whole global warming thing, then boycott Australia (qantas airlines), Japan (japan airlines) and every other country too (dubai is not a country btw...).

Those countries actually have something to offer, Scotland is particularly nice. Dubai is just a fake, glitzy, incredibly extravagant amusement park in the middle of the desert. And I enjoy reading the people who are so stupid as to believe that the Arabs built Dubai, the West built it. The Arabs simply reap the rewards of our labor. If you don't understand that then don't bother respond.

The Arabs have simply brought in large amounts of foreign labor that they pay horribly, once the labor has served its purpose they plan on sending all the cheap labor back to the country of origin.

Why do we pay $4.00 a gallon? Its for this. Fuck OPEC.

I think it is a sick idea. It is 100 degrees outside and u walk inside and its 32 degrees that amazing. Plus its giving the people of Dubia a chance to experience skiing. The only thing is your park could use some work and it seems damn expensive. I would not pay 80 dollars to ski a mountain with a tiny park that isnt that great and only 2 or 3 runs. I would do it if it was cheaper. I think u could put in a bigger jump with out people hitting the roof. And put in better rails the place could be sick. But i like the concept of skiing in the desert.

Dubai was built on the fact that the western nations are addicted to oil. Western labor to earn this capital is leaving our economies and going into the economy of the UAE.

The Arabs did not build Dubai. They used American and European money to have near slave labor from India and Indochina build this ridiculous city.

In conclusion, fuck Dubai, and fuck Ski Dubai. One can spend probably less than a quarter of the money they'd spend to go there to go ski on real mountains on real snow in Chile.

Dubai is a fucking joke. I actually hope something goes wrong in the Persian Gulf just so their real estate plummets.

But your public transportation is leaps and bounds ahead of ours. When you look at it, we spend about the same. Americans buy more gas, Europeans buy less. We each end up spending the same amount total.
 
Here are some fact for you guys-

Dubai produces around 240,000 barrels a day

Abu Dhabi produces around 2 million barrels a day

12 million barrels per day produced in al jubyl saudia arabia

So does Dubai really produce alot of the worlds gas? No.

I don't care that the UAE exports oil, they're just lucky that god forsaken desert is filled with black gold. But don't try and let the west get fucked again spending ridiculous amounts as tourists in a fake city, that would unethical.

They build ridiculous buildings for the main purpose of outdoing the world, very similar to the ridiculous buildings Hitler had planned for the 3rd Reich. Like I said in the other thread, Dubai would be Hitler's dream vacation destination.

What the fuck even goes in those gaudy buildings? Office rooms? I can''t imagine they're receiving enough tourism already to fill them all with hotel rooms.

 
There are too many tourists here already, and plenty of jews live here they just say there muslim when entering the country, we also have churches not just mosques and alchohol, not so arab more westerized. as i said before 90% of this country is expat, meaning only 10% were bron here and still live here.

America mad assumptions when they said it was and arab who ran their plane inot their buliding, ok it may have been but they suddlenly decided to invade afghanistan because of it almost with no proof. And yes its mostly indian and philipinos working on construction here but they did have a choice unlike the black africans that were forced into slave labour in the 1800s, they could have stayed in india earning next to nothing.

global warming should not be in this thread. It is not caused by a big air conditioner in dubai. Humans dont have that much control over our climate. Besides, the world will enter a cooling phase soon do to decreased sunspot activity on the sun that is directly related the earth's temperature(this is from nasa)

okay great so you arent using water to make the snow, big deal (you use enough for all your golf courses already). Plus its indoors so its not like you need to constantly be making snow.

Its the AC units that I am concerned about. I'm sure its quite a bit of electricity to get a massive building in the desert into sub zero temperatures.
 
your not seeing the bigger picture man. obviously its not this one air conditioner that is the problem, but it is the entire concept of Dubai. Of trying to conquer the earths barriers by putting perfect golf courses in the desert, skiing in 40 degree climates and making man made islands. I just hate how the regular joe blow is so impressed with this when you can go elsewhere where things are natural and 10 times better.
 
Ofcourse natrual is better, i spen whole seasons in proper mountains, but i assure you if you lived here a needed a regular fix of skiing you would go to ski dubai. Iran, which happens to be just across the water, aslo has the best powder skiing in the world in my opinion, but them having nuclear bombs doesnt stop me. Also i bet if you added it all up ski dubai only uses less energy than a conventional ski resort, think of all the power fro snow macines and all the lifts, gotta be more economically friendly inside.
 
Dude...you guys are ridiculous. Dubai is not perfect and yes the labor comes from 3rd worlders and yes Dubai is extravagent, sometimes ridiculously so, but NO! Arabs from Dubai are going to Iraq to "blow themselves up". While western/Arab relations right now are at there most strained in history since the crusades, Dubai is doing the most to stay out of the fracas, as well as ally themselves (yes on an economic not cultural platform ignorant dicks)with the western world. And oil is pretty much a non issue. They have already run out of oil (SINCE OIL IS BOUGHT FOR THE FUTURE, WHICH MEANS THAT THEY HAVE SOLD ALL THEIR OIL ALREADY EVEN IF IT STILL COMES OUT OF THE GROUND FOR A FEW MORE YEARS). I understand that every oil rich nation is making a profit off of everybody else who needs oil, Dubai included. However, considering their physical location and ruling ethnicity they are doing a visionary job of being friendly towards the western world, for whatever ends (money).

I dont see what your finding fault with except that the people with which we are in a conflict of beliefs in happen to be the same religion and general ethnicity as the rulers of Dubai.

Wow. All you need is somebody who actually knows how to build a park. At my local indoor in auckland, the park can be sick sometimes. Right now we got 3 streets at the top, a flat down flat box next to a rainbow, a small kicker (is bigger when theres not as many rails, sometimes good enough for people to get like grabbed 9s and flips off) a C box, a wallride, a fat box, battleship butterbox going over a VW and a small rail at the bottom.

Obviously you guys have got the facility and just don't know how to use it. Hire somebody who actually knows how to build a park and get some proper rails in, a decent jump (it's pretty hard to hit the roof) then you might get some more people through. Its just a matter of managers and who's running the place.

Hmm interesting that this has turned into an argument about oil. Ill just point out that Canada is actually where we get most of our oil from and saudi arabia is another one, and the reason we do it with saudi arabia is cuz we signed some peace treaty with them about 50 years ago agreeing that we would buy there oil. I bet Dubai is not on the Top 10 oil importers to the US.
Just thought i would point that out, im not here to argue politics.
 
Lets just take this into account, when bush visited the UAE there were 0 threats or attemted attacks on him, whereas in nearly every other arab country he viseted there were atleast one.
 
That does not mean the bad sentiment is not there. Terrorist threats would be bad for business, I'm sure the government of the UAE went through great measures to keep them quiet. In the other countries the leaders care less because those countries are not trying to become tourist destinations.

I live in Dubai, I'm Canadian and I've been all around the world now. If one thing's constant, it's that every country has organized crime/terror, racism [like the 'guy' in this thread.], 'human beings' and everything you can imagine.

Ski Dubai is a great place. I'm big into skiing, and it's nice to be able to practice all year round. Then, if you get tired of skiing on the indoor slope, you can walk out to the beach. The place is for tourism, just like Cairo, Niagara Falls and so on... that point doesn't mean anything if you're trying to demoralize the place. The structures here are holy, there are no taxes [a nice plus]. In fact, if you want to know another way to promote this place, show some pictures of where TGI Fridays is man lol, people will love that in relation to the slope. Do you know how fun it is to have windows in TGI to the slope and watch the noobs fall :D Then I must argue that some guys/girls [locals to] who go off the jumps are pro... to the point where they even scare me. Still though, I live 2 minutes from the mall it's in and my school is 1 minute from the mall, that's freakin awesome.

Anyways, I want to go on, but I know some peeps here are just going to be negative. I'm in an international school with Muslims and guess what, they don't have bombs. Just stop with this generalization bullshit. It's like me saying that a kid brought a gun to school in the USA and therefore no school in the US is safe, it's plain stupid. I've had so many good experiences here with the locals helping me out and lending a hand like you'd come to expect in any country.

Btw, everywhere is meant to have skiing. It's not a western thing, and now that it can be spread to the most unexpected places, hotdamn lol.
