good response.
this is probably one of the greatest problems this country has faced. with the new industrialized nations using more oil and not just china and india either. all the pacific asian islands are developing as well (mainly manufacturing and telecommunications). pushing the global demand for oil further and further.
Since oil is up, everything else goes up in direct correlation as well, thus (in our situation right now) has created an inflation problem and tied in with a weak economy creates a huge problem that Jimmy carter faced in his term.
however, getting back to your point, keeping and holding the oil is not all that bad of an idea either because it will only make our country a big player on the oil market in the future. however, given our current situation, i don't believe there will be a "future" if we don't act now. I honestly dont see America moving away from oil too soon ( we all know it people its time to admit it).
i am all for alternative energy and fuels, i have said it over and over again but in all reality we still need the oil to ween ourself of of oil dependency and into the new alternative fuels world which is coming soon enough. We can see this change happening already but it we as a nation will not be completely off oil for the next decade or two.
i think it is time we tap into our supply, increase supply on the home front and decrease oil dependancy off of other nations.
