DONT SUPPORT GRENADE GLOVES!!! read inside

thanks I didn't know who I was for a second. thanks for the reminder.

with that said, I have a lot to offer to companies yet we as athletes, or photographers or anything like it unfortunately have to deal with meatsticks that somehow make it into the industry. I guess it is all in "who you know"

a little naive of the photographer; but completely unprofessional and certainly illegal of the Grenade executives.

i hope the photographer had his attorney send a cease and desist letter to the Grenada execs and lawyers.

so lame.

you actually think you are sponsor worthy? no offense man but you are on the worse side of average. there are dozens of kids at every hill that are better than you and arent 28 sorry.

that makes me cringe with anger, what a fuckface

why doesnt he sell his fucking iPad and pay the photographer back for his stolen property

ha! This isn't a matter of opinion. You would have to be a self-destructive retard to just let something like this slide, because it affects other photographers negatively if he doesn't do something about it. Just because you pretend something isn't bullshit doesn't mean it's not bullshit. It just makes you an idiot. If a company has poor business practices, I say go ahead and burn bridges. Fuck 'em; we don't want them around. That applies to the ski industry as well.

If your idea of saving a company is getting it sold in Zumiez then you sir should not have a company, let it die while it was great.

Karma for a good quote

Company is fucked, "grass-roots campaign" won't get you shit if you piss off your consumer base and it ends up as a rant thread on TGR and Newschoolers. And I highly doubt anyone on EpicSki has Grenade anyway so not looking good for them.

this post will be overlooked, but its worth a try.

you all need to realize that the photographer is talking to TWO DIFFERENT people in those e-mails/ one of them is the CEO and the other is a TM. the CEO is actually kinda trying to help and understand the situation. the TM is just being a dick. its not the CEO's fault the picture got used, its the TM's, althought the CEO is now responsible for the TMs douchery.

Wow potato boy you either misread those emails or are genuinely naive that CEO is being a grade A C.U.N.T. No excuses.

they are both in the wrong to an extent, but joseph cordelli or whatever is a huge dick, and jordan brown really is trying to be a nice guy and make amends. i just read it again to make sure i wasnt confused. the photogropher even makes a not in between some of the emails to say that jordan is trying to help. he isnt doing everything he should, but hes not being a total dick like joseph is.

the snowboard industry is full of dickbags and theives

^this made me laugh

That's so unprofessional of him it just makes him look like a pussy who doesn't give a shit

This is a huge problem in the industry. If one shot from an entire day of riding gets used, how much should the photog make? Think of it this way. If a photog only gets one usable shot a week over the course of a season, and they get in 30 weeks of shooting over the course of an entire year, you are saying hat they photographer should only make (at the most) $3000 a year...

...So in your logic, ski photographers should live 10 times UNDER the poverty level??
In reality, a very good photog will get around 100 sellable shots a year. in order to make a living, they would need to make about $500 per photo. And thats to live a pretty basic lifestyle, not assuming they have any bills.

wow, you guys are crazy. I dont even know where to start with this one. by my logic i hate photographers i guess, and i want them to live in poverty. Everyone really missed my point here, seems like people just read the responses to the quote and not the original message. Thats the only way i can comprehend being this badly misinterpreted, without questioning peoples reading level. But please continue to with the passion you've shown in support of photographers everywhere, i can support that.

It might be tough if you aren't a photographer who has had their work used without permission.
The bottom line is that the photographer should have never had to even email Grenade. He should have been contacted by Grenade via Dustin as soon as they wanted to use the image. He informed them it was his, sent an invoice, and a check should have gone out in the mail.
It didn't, and in addition to taking legal action, he reached out to the snow community that he is a part of. Instead of saying "Dude, you shouldn't have been so confrontational" we should all be saying "Grenade, where is the dude's money?"

Man, the douche bags are coming out of the woodwork today. I'd appreciate if all the idiots would please shut up. This argument is clearly about copyrights and not contracts directly. Sure the dude should have created a low res with a watermark but nonetheless, if YOU took a pic that you know could make some money and found it on a site being used (regardless if it was a blog or not, you and everyone else here knows that blogs are becoming the next big marketing engine.) I'm sure you'd want your money to, especially if you have a copyright on your work.

Would the all the big douche bags, please shut up, please shut up.

Well Im pretty damn sure that Danny Kass' brother was the "CEO" for a while, but then decided that this wasn't what he wanted to do or something like that(I think he just hated the job/grenade or something like that). Then Grenade hired a/some big executive/s from Microsoft or something (that had been laid off) because they knew that these microsoft guys could make Danny way more money. Once these microsoft guys(I'm pretty sure the CEO is one of the microsoft guys) came into grenade a lot of their business quality(they treated shops like pieces of shit) went down the shitter. This is why my shop stopped carrying grenade a couple years ago.

I'm pretty sure that is what happened or atleast is a rough story of what happened

Wow, some serious words of wisdom. Not even relevant. I hope you don't have any actual sponsorships because statements like this are embarrassing for anyone you "represent".

As a fellow photographer, that guy made me mad just reading the email, trying to make excuses about not knowing where the picture came from, well it was taken by someone other than the athlete. Hope you get your money! Glad I didn't but the gun show gloves.

Just as trash-like in my mind. I was told by one of their reps that they don't support skiers because they are homophobic.

To be honest, I doubt the photo had a watermark... So really, the photo isn't copyrighted and is up for free advertising anytime. Always put your name on your work people. Especially if you're giving it to your buddy to show his sponsors. All this seems like it could have been easily avoided. If grenade actually cropped the photo so the copyright wasn't visible... I would've sent one email only saying I had contacted an attorney on the illegal use of a copyrighted image of mine.

Just because a photo doesn't have a watermark doesn't mean it isn't copyrighted. Do some reading before you post such nonsense.

lolyoumustbefuckingdumb

just because you don't have a © on your image doesn't mean it's not...

With your justification I can take on of Ansel Adam's pictures that doesn't have a © on it and use it for my marketing campaign?

That's why I meta data every picture I take - it has the © in the image's property so it can't be removed.

get-the-fuck-out.jpg

Seriously
