Dfresh lose it buddy. MSP makes the best films hands down. Murry, Scott, and Winter are all great guys. They have all done so much for athletes over the years.

When there are hundreds of thousands of dollors at stake and you have been working for something for over 10 years, you would be suprised what you would do to your competition. It's buisness bro and you know anything about it. Nice guys loose. I ganrantee there is a reason why these things were said on that answering machine. I don't care thats between them.

What happens when Josh gets that big and there is a new crowd that comes in to snatch what he's been working for ten years? Do you think he is going to be a nice guy and say here, film my guys, take my cover shots from VAS, and take the money away from the sponsors that I have been working with, I dont care? No I don't think so.

Your are simply trying to harm a company that has given so much over the years. This will come to haunt Josh in the long run. For every action there is a reaction.

Bottom line here some of you seem to think that MSP's 'business tactics' are indicative of legit comeptitive methods of clawing for the biggest piece of the pie. Turns out that they're not. MSP is simply scrambling to hold on to their dwindling market share (sponsor support, public interest, athlete relationships) and because of their lack of raw intelligence and business savvy (yes, you Steve, Murray), these pathetic attempts to undermine their competition are the best they can come up with. Sad really. If they really were more than a group of over-funded former ski-bum stoner/coke heads turned wanna-be filmmakers, maybe they would be able to use their position to help GROW the industry. Competition is a mutually beneficial situation if handled effectiveley boys, simple business dynamics. If you knew how to effectively handle it, you would have every advantage. Go down to CMC next spring and take some classes, you could learn something. And keep pulling your hair out too.

There was no reason for that phone message to Josh, but I 'garantee' there is a good reason that phone message ended up in this video...

Winter went to DNA, a sponsor of Bermans since the begining, and told them bluntly that they were wasting their time and money sponsoring Berman. To validate that assertion, he told them that MSP sells X number of videos a year, where X is some crazy over blown number, and that berman only sells Y number of videos per year, where Y is a gross under estimate of his actual sales. Fortunatly the guys at DNA are inteligent and saw through the BS.

And guess what also, guess who MSP wan'ts so bad intheir films they would go to these lengths, and guess who will never film with them... because everyone sees what they are doing... it seems berman has the coolest crew to film with, he takes people from nowhere and showcases them and believes in his riders...and they all do it for their love of the sport and MSP wants to ruin that.

While I'd normally agree with TAK, this thread is the most important to hit newschoolers in a damn long time. I'd heard rumours along the lines of what's been posted in this thread for a long time, not to mention more, and to see that many of them are, in fact, true, is enlightening to say the least. I've never liked MSP for their movies, but I can now honestly say that I'll never go to another MSP premiere, buy another one of their movies, and perhaps more importantly, SELL another one of their movies.

I wonder what the athletes think about what MSP is pulling, and will re evaluate their opinion on said company.

it will be interesting next year to see the influence of this thread. I think we should keep it alive until then, and someone should report figures on the sales of each video. I predict MSP will have a slight decline due to the growing trend of supporting the core companies, Level 1 will increase as they would have either way, and pbp will remain untouched for the most part... they seem to branch out and grow a bit more every year.

Other companies will be growing bigger in the scene aswell...

Theory 3 for a mix of progressive back country and jibbing...

Plehouse will have a huge growth and the quality of the movie will be off the hook next year...

I forget many of the other companies but...

And all the smaller companies are going to take the position level 1 had when they put out strike three...

It is going to be a good time for skiing I think... I can't wait.

well, i must say first off, thanks Phrosty. oh and dave thank you too just cause you are dave levin. oh, and i say fuck vas, i am starting my own distribution deal.

Basicly there is pleanty of room for all the ski films, but when companies try to play god, they take away from others out there....like Off Trail, SAS, Rage, Theory 3...ect. just think what we could do if sponsors would give us even a quarter of what they give MSP to make the same idea of a movie. the future is here, if only certain people would realize that the future isn't the past, but yet a futuer that we actualy haven't even thought of yet.

compatition leads to creativity. back in the day MSP and TGR were realy it. now that there are all these start up companies out there (Off Trail included) ski films are changing, and that is a given. if they don't evolve, then you will be watching ski movie _ whatever in 5 years and be stoked. lets open the want and hope for new more creative films, so that we can evolve as snowboard films have over the past few years.

What did MSP do to piss everyone off? I mean just because the guys might be 'assholes' doesn't make their movies any worse. I don't see Seth Morrison or Shane McConkey with any other film company. Those two guys are the ones leading the sport. Like with skarachuting, I will say it got a little out of hand in Yearbook, but i mean c'mon, skarachuting is going to open up all sorts of insane lines. What exactly did the MSP guys say in high five?(i've never seen it.)

JD, film quality has everything to do with the bad business ethics. MSP's bad business ehtics are a direct result of their film quality. If they made movies that were true to the scene, they wouldn't have to pull stuff like this to sell. But more importantly, I think if Winter really cared about skiing and the industry then things like this wouldn't be happening.

In any question of business, isn't it necessary to look at the products? We look at the products and we can make better judgments about what's going on.

^You have a point... but it's not like PBP is out undermining the TGR films to try to sell to that audience. Some people are going to like MSP-style movies, and those people will buy them. When you make a movie which focusses on a certain type of skiing, you're appealing to a fan base. If MSP wants to expand their fan base, they should do it by changing or expanding their style, not by adopting shady business tactics. If they don't want to do that, then they're just going to have to settle with sales to people who want to watch what they have to offer. Plain and simple.

you know what sucks? The fact that there are good people skiing in MSP's movies who will also be somewhat punished by the punishment of MSP. My bro owns Yearbook and I was just watching it. Seriously, Abma is the fuckin' man! I was stoked on his seg and the segments of many others in the movie, including Ingrid, shane, tanner, and others. So I guess I'm all about watching it, but not paying for it. I hope those people put the heat on Winter for being a hack-show toolshed poser fuck

Major props to the skiers in his movies though.

 
I dont really think that a handfull, maybe 50 people here on NS is going to severely affect MSP's sales. Also, if MSP were to have umpteen amounts of urban, almost all park, and hardly any big mountain, then I think you'd be finding a lot different response in this thread. MSP makes movies for SKIERS, having done premieres, the people coming to the premieres are not just jiblings, but perople pushing 40 and 50. So no, i doubt that this thread is gonna affect MSP in the least. But ill call Wais and ask him if you want to know anything from the MSP side.

I am honestly confused by that message. did winters actually believe that Berman would not tell any of the riders what was told to him. that 'the future' will see less money to small companies and that some of the 'better' riders should be in MSP's movies? like why in hell after hearing this information would those certain riders go over to that D bag and his company. how can someone try and come off nice about that kind of issue, it honestly blew me away
