Do you own an iPod touch? How do you like it.

"likely" was the key term in my sentance there. It was speculation on my part based on how Apple seems to operate. Ship products with subpar-software and charge for the apps later to fix their shortcomings.

wow, i just spent like 2 hours reading ipodtouchfans.com and all the cool stuff you can do with a hacked touch. Theres so many cool apps already out, and theres going to be a ton more soon with the new store. Its like a mp3/video/gameboy/internet all in one, this thing fucking rocks. I'm def gonna pick one up, what size is good tho? I'm thinking 16 gb is good, but for only $100 more you get double that... i have like 20 gb of music and 10 gb of ski movies and then a ton of normal movies. I could prob live with like 5 gb of music and 5-8 gb of movies.

For anyone who has a hacked one, how much space do apps take?

it makes more sense to get the 32, it's double the 16 and it's like 100 bucks more especially if you have 30 gb worth of shit, you're gonna want it all on the ipod because it's so good for watching movies and shit, i feel like when i'm going somewhere i don't even need to bring a computer, just buy an apple wall charger and a touch and you're fine

also, everyone, get a case for your touch, most important thing, it just gets scratched and fucked up if you don't, spend the extra 20 bucks for the case and the extra 60 bucks for the warrantee. also TIP: BUY IT AT BEST BUY: they give you a 40 dollar off card which isn't valid for the ipod but is for the warrantee so you end up saving 40 bucks off the warrantee which is cheaper than apple

with all my gba games/apps/and themes total. only 650mb are taken up. gba games and ps1 games take up the most like 15-50mb per game

very true, but if you cant get that $100 extra 16gb is well suffiecient. 2500+ songs is more than you need and youll still have 6gb for movies, enough. And you can always easily switch movies songs out.

Also look on craigslist and ebay, i got my 16gb for close to $200 off, when the 16gb v2 first came out, from craigslist, so there are so great deals if your strap for cash, you just have to look around.

im really thinking of getting one. i have an ipod classic, but would love this to watch movies, play games, and use the wifi. but om not really sure how much i'd use it. i'd totally get an iphone if i had at&t. plus i'm looking at getting a blackberry curve, so this might have to wait.

when they came out with the iTouch, i was amazed at the fact that it didn't suck, unlike every other iPod they've come out with. enjoy it (=

hahaha thats sick as hell!

now i want one real bad. Anyone wanna buy my 4th gen 40gb ;)

but serious...

bought mine online from best buy and got it the day it came out, spent $382 and haven't missed a cent of that money. Its so worth it once you jailbreak it. If you need help with anything if you do decide to jailbreak it let me know. I thought i used my old ipod alot, but my touch comes with me 24/7 anywhere I go, i would recommend getting a good case for it, and guard it with your life too.

What is considered a "good case" though? SOemthing tough, something soft? Screen protector?

Well that depends, if you are clumsy and drop stuff, you're gonna want to go with a heavier case, if you take good care of it, go with one of these:

http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/StoreFront - look great, tough material

http://www.bodyguardz.com/ - also looks great and is very tough

http://www.zagg.com/ - more like a covering but its military grade - would suggest this one if you want max protection without losing sexiness

or obviously a leather case, but i had one of these when i first got my touch, and dust got all over it but they look good. plus it wasnt covered completely for scratches

then if your a klutz, lol , get:

http://vibevault.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16203&cat=0&page=1- still looks okay imo.

Oh and btw ipod touch second gen is rumoured to be coming out late this year, but i doubt you can wait that long, i wouldn't

do not buy a case from an apple store or walmart/target/kmart/ect. if you want a really good case buy a capsule touch off of ebay. they are the best hard case ever. u can read reviews off the site i posted on the first page. for a soft case just buy a silicone(ipod condem) case. and just buy the screen protector pack of like 7 at any store but put one on the back so if you ever want to sell then there will not be any scratches. pm me if u got any othe questions

I can't afford a full priced one as it is so I'll stick to the first gen likely :P

Unless they stick a decent camera in the second gen that is.

If the ipod touch 2.0 has a built in camera like the iphone, I'd have it on me 24/7

Go big. I bought the 16 gig and totally regret not getting the 30 gig. You will end up using it for way more than just music, even if you don't plan on it now.

He mentioned earlier that because the textbox is made with Flash that you can't reply to threads until the Touch supports it.

He also mentioned that you can reply to pm's on NS.

we will not see an ipod touch 2.0 for like 2 years. apple is putting there whole ipod team into the iphone cuz they really don't care about the touch.

a: you can not add a camera via a firmware
b: we are getting charged $10 for the 2.0 update
c: the only way to add a camera now is to have an after market one that plugs into the dock connector which would cost a shit load
d: don't most of us have cameras on our phones?

this is true. but in todays world a cell phone is almost a nessesity(sp?) so unless you are like 10 or are super poor, then most people have a phone. and if they are that poor then they should not be buying an ipod.

i got a hard case. my friend who works at the apple store said people who bought soft cases came back wanting a hard case cause the soft one stretched out.

and as for responding on NS, everything works on my ipod

Well im 22, going into 4th year of university and I see no point in spending an absurd ammount of money per month to txt friends/call on a cellphone when I can use MSN to talk to people or my house phone to call. Everyone else I know has one so if i need to make a call I can always use theres.

To be honest, I think most people who have cellphones barely warrent its purchase (or mommy and daddy front their bills). Is it really nessecary to spend hundreds of dollars a year so you can sit in class and text friends...not really.

As you can tell i'm not a cellphone guy :P

Before you buy anything Apple, it is worth checking this out:

http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPod_touch

That should jump you right to the touch portion, but all hardware products are listed. If you are buying a touch right now, I wouldn't buy one new. Get one of eBay/craigslist or buy one (with warranty) for the Apple refurb store online.

yeah it would definately be a used one i'd buy.

How accurate does that site tend to be with its predictions?

Honestly, i went into a "the source" paid i think 39.99 for a pretty sick case, but it was overprice, walk out of the store, passed one of those cellphone stands that they have at malls and saw so cases for the ipod touch for 5.99, went back to the source and got my money back and then got the 5.99 one. But since then, i've gotten tired of having a case, because honestly this thing is very durable. If you have read the review i did you would have seen a durability test by PC magazine where they dropped it to find out just how durable it is. Also it looks and feels sexier and sleeker. Now i havent droped mine yet but its been about 5 months and its not gracefully touched everytime i've had it, so that just IMO.

the stress test of the ipod i was talking about earlier

i bought an ipod touch thinking it would be a bad buy but it is totally worth every dollar. I like everything about it however the back scratches easier than anything but i got a simple rubber case and its perfect. the picture quality and vid quality are better than any other mp3 ive seen. The wifi is amazing. If you have a good connection its faster than most average computers.

im not sure about mac but i know how its done for pc, but its different depending on whether its the 1.1.2 or 1.1.4 version

I found a 32 gb new for $400 on craigslist, is this a good deal? Will the warranty be good as long as its brand new, or do I need to know where it was bought? Is the apple warranty enough?

Youtube is blocked at my work so i just got to peep that PC World test, pretty damn impressive!

the internet is actually really nice for a wifi device. and if you go to www.meebo.com on your touch you can get free aim with your entire buddylist with no lag. you can also hold up to more then one conversation at once. but the keyboard does take some getting used to, i find it when you tilt it sideways it is alot easyer to use with the bigger buttons. but yeah it is worth the purchase.

i can't wait till the 3G iphones come out.. gonna get either an 8gb or 16gb of that and put on my favorite music and i got a 80gb ipod video that's hella dope and can fit everything i would ever need for the next 5 years.. going to be a dope combo.

I have no need for a cellphone with ridiculously overpriced plans like the iPhones.

Yeah but you HAVE to sign a 2 year plan to buy a phone which I've read on here is ~$10 more a month or some shit. You're paying just as much in the long run...They just did the marketing clever...

Besides....it should have shipped originally with 3G...tons of other phones have had it for longer....IMO, its a really weak marketing ploy from a tech point of view, but the dumb consumer eats it up because its Apple and it looks cool.

I just wanna bump this thread and ask a question.

How is the durability on the Touch? I'm interested in one but want to be able to use it for skiing. Is it highly recommended NOT to ski with it?
