Do you actually read freeskier?

SO i was reading the 11.3 vol. (its like the womens special issue) of freeskier...On page 24 there is and article from the Editor asking us readers if we actually read the content or if we just look at pictures. He says he want us to send him emails saying what we do.

the only thing i read is trick tips and maybe some bios...

same, and bios, reviews, letters to the editor, some small articles. i have never read one of the main articles mostly because they are on something that i am not interested in. i like articles like the mountain creek one, with good pics.

I read almost every article in FREEZE. Freeskier is like a picture book, how about writing decent articles? Maybe a few less ads? CONTENT? come on.

everytime i try to read an article in freeskier it is riddled with spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes, plus they are just not interesting or writin in a way that draws you in... besides that freeskier is 50% adds, so i dont read it anymore, check out powder, so fucking good

anything interesting i read but stuff like "backcounrty in b.c with dan tredway' i dont bother with just cause its all the same saying"epic pow and me and my buds just shredded it all day". but i still read like 50% of the mag.

I agree with the grammar spelling shit which gets annoying. Some of the main articles are good (I actually liked the womens edition one).

Mostly I just cut out the "epics" section and tack them to my wall.

Def don't read it anymore and the photography doesnt interest me at all. The photos have very little diversity.. I mean Half the 'epic' shots that are published are the photo directors own shots!?!? Not to mention there will be an ad right across the page with the same athlete, doing the same trick, shot by the same photographer. If freeskier went out of business I wouldn't give a shit. In fact, i might welcome it.... might give some talented individuals the opportunity to shine and bring back something core to this movement called freeskiing...

ha i just look at the pictures and look at the new gear that they're wearin...and the athlete bios and trick tips and jibardy...annnnd thats all i can think of

i like how you kept Mr. Harvey nameless, just refering to him at "the editor".

but seriously kids, reading is good. you should read the magazine, I mean, you're paying for it, it's about skiing... what else do you need for motivation.

I like reading the articles, but they're kind of boring sometimes.

It also doesnt help that 75% of the magazine is giant full page ads.

Really annoying.

needs less pictures, less ads, better articles, more articles.

i look over the photos then tossed it in the trash. how sad is that? i use to get excited and sit down and read powder and the older freeskiers front to back.

whatup freeskier, im writing to answer your letter from the editor asking if we actually read the content, or just look at the pictures... the honest truth is, i cannot even remeber the last time i actually read an article, and when i did it probably went in one ear and out the other. Sure, i get super stoked every month when i see the new mag peekin through the junk mail, but im startin to realize its pretty much only to see the epics, and the cover shot. i may be wrong, but if most freeskiers are any thing like me, they are totally ADD and just want to see somehting that is pleasing to the eyes, or an article of current intrest. I would suggest more epics, maybe some artwork/pictures from readerrs (i realllly think everyone would love that idea, and kids would be super stoked to get in it), more interviews with top riders aka gus kenworthy/henrik harlout/ pk hunder/ mike clarke, write ins on hot debate topics like nopoles (i think there was already one on this)/ purple the new color/ style or tech in comps/ who should be invited to X or other events, overrall better event coverage, or film company sections taking about how their movies are coming along w. pictures from the making. AND POSTERS/STICKERS PLEASE!!!

haha i still love the mag more than anything, just some construc crit and ideas.

keep it real,

Ricky Puzzitiello

eh, while i agree with what most people in this thread are saying, i dont really agree with you. to get all that stuff that you just posted, you can just check out NS ski gaber and NS Media and arts forum (and even the pro's post in ski gabber) and the top rated photos. it seems like a magazine similar to what you are describing would end up in an edited version of newschoolers.

i think the magazine needs to cut down on ads for sure and have more pictures (more interesting ones as well. i feel as if skiing photography hasnt really been to sweet as of late)

yea i read that too, i thought it was pretty funny...

but i usually read it cover to cover, especially this time of year when all i can think about is skiing, but cant actually ski yet.

NS is so huge now that i read/hear about most of th articles before freeskier comes out. i really like freeskier for the photos and use it to rip the photos out and put them on my wall.

I unfortunately do read Freeskier, all of it. IMO, some major changes are needed. They are trying w/ articles, but I think they really need just stop with them or up the quality of the writing. Freeskier should just do tons of athlete/industry folk interviews. They seem to know ski people pretty well so it would be easy to do this, plus no other ski mags are doing this.

That said, check out SBC skier. Great writing and hilarious.

For some reason i definitely read more of Powder than Freeskier. Actually, I read Powder cover to cover every single time.

i'm lazy and i usually don't read a lot. i look at the pictures (with the occasional trick tip or article), so basically all i have to say besides that the writing is mediocre is that there aren't many sweet pictures. so step it up! but i still love you.

Actually, the Freeskier December issue coming out, with Sammy on the cover, is PACKED with content. Probably the best of the year! - Rainville Profile, Colby Profile, Austria Trip, Japan Trip, Squaw shoot, etc ...no BS

Still littered w/ errors? Damn... Looks like they're moving up a notch though. Art is clearly better and the content is improving. What about the web?

sometimes i start reading ads, thinking theyre articles... and vice versa. but eventually i make it to the end because it's all full of skiing. i do feel a bit used afterward though.

Not sure about you but i'm not paying for it. They give away subscriptions like candy on Halloween man. I would be pretty disappointed if i was paying for it. If you know what you're doing you can get all the winter mags free. I get Powder, Skiing, Freeskier, Snowboarder all free...and a few others. The fact that it is FREE is the only thing it has going for it. My shop gives them away cause the owner doesn't even wanna bother ringing it up cause he thinks is crap, they get them free anyway.

sorry but you that sounded like you made it all up.
why would the owner of a give something away everytime if he is paying for it? Why would he order it again if he thinks it's crap?

Using Freeskier for anything more than wall or toilet paper has been shown in most studies to be hazardous to your health.

Powder, SBC Skier, and The Ski Journal are where people should be looking for actual content.

I do read the articles in freeskier. However they are not on the same level as Powder. Older issues of Freeskier had more well written articles that actually had some content. I feel freeskier has gone to almost advertising product even in their articles. I can relate to more articles in Powder because they content that has more depth and meaning to a skier. The most recent Powder issues has a rad article on Mark Abma.

Freeksier, if your listenimng (which you should be) I really dont care what eveyone is wearing on the hills, tell me more about what everyone is doing on the hills.
