Do Girls Have An Easier Time Getting Sponsored?

95%? Hah, no. I think your numbers are a bit off there.. I have seen a grand total of 3 different girls 360 in person, in edits that number goes up to 10, 11 if you count Trevor. In X games. maybe 12, with a lot of overlap with the girls from the edits. I'm sure there are more out there, but nowhere near 95%

Yeah I've never seen a girl 3, although I've seen a 17 year old girl 2 on 2 out of a box, and I'm pretty sure she can at least do 7s, but still never seen a girl spin more than a 180 afaik, that includes snowboarders.

I accept the fact that all pro women can't throw double cork 12's What I don't get is why their's style isn't exactly the same as men. Everyone's 720's should look the same.

Girls may have an easier time getting sponsored, but they have a harder time skiing.

Have you ever watched a girl ski? they don't bend their fucking legs

There are definitely females that kill it and we're always hyped on seeing them push their limits. The hard part is the amount of them that buy product because of other female skiers. It's still a pretty small demographic compared to males. I realize that if there are more girls sponsored and putting out content that inspires other females it can grow but as a company you have to look at the bottom line sometimes, what is going to actually going to help you get your target market buy your product.

The argument about females not being as "good" as guys is pretty irrelevant. You have to think of it in terms of the level of women's skiing/snowboarding. If a female is doing 360s and 540s but inspiring others to buy product because of her talents then it doesn't matter what tricks she's doing. The same goes for males. You don't have to be the best skier/snowboarder, you just have to be someone that inspires others to become hyped on your brand.

It's a harsh way to look at things but in the world of operating a successful business you have to make tough decisions sometimes.

The take away from this is both males and females are pushing themselves respective to their gender constantly and helping them do what they love is the goal. We all love what we're doing and want to see it grow and progress. It's just there are currently far more younger males involved in the sports at this time.

I agree there are some girls that do "kill it" and that the whole female scene isn't that big but honestly would you sponsor someone who could land really sketchy threes at best? And I'm not seeing any girls on your team right now

Sorry my mistake they can't spin past 540 and their biggest rail trick is a 270 off. I don't mean to be sexist but for being sponsored that is pretty bad.

At the world championships at Voss, Norway, some of the girls who where in the slopestyle final did straight air`s on all jumps, and some of them even bailed on straightairs!I think`s that It is quite embarrassing that the girls who is some of the best in the world, are doing straightairs in the World championships..

Sponsoring female skiers is about finding those individuals that can help inspire future generations of female skiers and grow the sport. It has absolutely nothing to do with guys or what guys can do so much better than girls. It's about having enough charisma to be an ambassador for the sport.

Just because someone has talent doesn't make people want to follow in their footsteps. Many world-class athletes in nearly every sport are total d-bags and are hated by millions. They want people who are role models within the lifestyle.

Progression in womens skiing won't take the big leaps that mens skiing has until there are more and more female competitors to drive each other forward. Continually putting women down in posts like these won't help inspire anyone, it just builds resentment.

Alright then kaya. I find it more a problem when women demand equal prizes in big comps, even though the men are taking way bigger risks. And also wtf are you talking about? Shaun White = huge d-bag, yet who is every 13 year old aspiring snowboarder with mommy's credit card buying their shit from? Burton, and mainly due to him. Same with Lindsey Vonn. Huge egotistical bitch, yet has tons of talent. And thats who every little girl who watches the olympics wants to grow up and be. And im saying the reason there aren't more women skiers in the pipelines is that women's events suck dick to watch. No one cares, so no young girls ever care, so they never get into skiing in the first place. If a chick went to sochi and stomped back to back doubles in the pipe, it would be all over NBC and ESPN, and i can almost guarantee a bunch of little girls are going to be interested in freeskiing that wouldn't have been before. OR you can go stomp a straight air to 540 to 180, and no one will care, and no new girls will give a fuck about this sport.

Unprecedented talent = inspiration = $ponsors

Extreme lack of talent + great personality =/= inspiration = less sponsor dollars for everyone

There are a lot of people we sponsor that aren't listed on our website or team roster. We choose to only list our top people to keep it meaningful to be listed as one of our team riders. But there are about 50-70 other skiers and snowboarders not listed on our team that we actively sponsor and promote through social media.

Yeah I thought that was the case, What's the reason grant donald isn't up there though? given he's your only british sponsored rider from what I've heard.

Like I said, there are a lot of people we sponsor and support but they aren't on the program that we are trying to promote on our highest level. That spot is reserved for only a select few.

Less brains=bigger and steezier tricks. Obviously women wont try everything that men do. and for good reason

It depends what your definition of our "team" is. We sponsor several females but none of them are listed on our team page.

Mogul skiing chicks on WC are doing backies and D7's on the reg. If a couple of those chicks busted over to park skiing they would kill it. I have no idea why they don't. the only people who care about moguls are the people competing.

Some girls are just lazy and have the "I have a pair of tits and a vag so I'm entitled to X" mindset and their are the rare girls that actually give 'r and send it.

Yea.... and guys still do quads. this thread isn't about quads or aerials.

I'm making the point that the talent difference isn't quite as large in other sorts of skiing, and that girls in aerials are doing triples on HUGE jumps. There isn't such a huge gap in ability between genders.

The fact that girls are throwing triples and 1440s in aerials shoots a hole in the idea that somehow women's bodies are making it impossible to do big tricks or be stylish.

LOL you ever heard of the world cup race circuit? most the women, if not all are almost pretty much up to par with the dudes. And are fucking ridiculously built, its insane. Lindsay Vonn (pre-blown knee) was built like a tank, and still is.

I generally only read this while I'm taking a shit so I'm sorry to offend you by waiting a whole day...

I was also a little busy supporting my coworkers and my company's team by volunteering at the Bike MS150 event and then watching my nephew play baseball. Then I got up early today to go for a swim and a run to train for an upcoming triathlon. I hope you had fun being attached to your phone/computer all day while I was busy living though.

You say Vonn is an "egotistical bitch" so remind me again what it is that she is getting every one to buy? And how many girls do you think are getting the full-on sponsorship ride? I would guess its around 1% of the highest level sponsorships in all of freeskiing. So what is everyone bitching about? Most "sponsored" athletes that I've met get some help paying for their season pass, maybe a new deck or sticks each year, and a few hoodies/shirts/hats in exchange for repping a brand or local shop. Great for them but hardly something to start such a big squabble over. All you clowns feel free to fight over the three or four major girl sponsorships that are out there, total. What a wasted argument. Support their cause and help bring their progression up to the level you all believe it should be at if you feel so strongly about their lack of performance.

Closing words: R.I.P Sarah Burke.

That girl could send it.

This post was even less clear....also, I don't think you understood my post. I didn't offer thoughts on why women are lagging, I just told you what I thought about you're ideas.

Well good for you for supporting your family and ms, i've been busy trolling 12 year olds and convincing them jiblife was released a few months ago.

But to your point that there are 3 or 4 big time sponsorships in women's freeskiing, im saying there could be more with the right person performing at the right time. At one point skateboarding was barely a sport with a few real sponsors up for grabs, but when they started doing things that impressed the general public, the public wanted to be part of it. Now skatewear, boards and chains like zumiez make millions on millions, providing many many more large sponsorships for many more people. Do i want skiing to be totally corporatized (new word)? No. But i do believe that womens skiing can go much further and become an issue worth fighting about, its just going to take someone who is willing to do big risk tricks without having to, and without the guarantee of a big reward. And if that is impressive enough to entice the public eye, then more money will be available to aspiring female skiers and to the veterans.

Also i want to be clear that I am proud of the females that our sport does have. They have come along ways in a sport that can be very hostile towards females in particular. They have been willing to perform for less, both in recognition and in dollars. But it isn't enough. Unless female pro's are content with where their sport is, in which case straight air's to 540's are perfectly fine.

And vonn sells things like si magazine subscriptions and cars. She really sold out, but people pay attention when they see her name because she impressed them.

The only thing that men and women are close to in the freeskiing world is big mountain, few women shred hard like Ingrid backstrom

Disagree. Ingrid rips, but she is the only one on that level, and still pretty far behind the top men.

Yeah the lack of muscle mass makes a big difference in sports like football but we're talking about freeskiing here, it doesn't take a ton of strength. Look at most professional male skiers, most of them aren't even close to as fit as professional athletes in other sports. Also I've never understood the whole center of gravity argument, women have a lower center of gravity and typically have better balance- why is that a handicap for skiers? I really don't see any physical reasons that women can't throw triples in freeskiing, women throw them in aerials.

And yeah the typical women isn't as ballsey as the average man but there are tons of women who have the courage to throw a triple. Look at climbing, Steph Davis free soloed the diamond on Longs Peak (no ropes or protection, you fall you die) four times.... that takes a lot more courage than hucking a triple (if you mess up a triple there's a possibility you can die, if you mess up free soloing there's no question you're going to die.) And that's just one of many examples.

Come on women, there's no physical or psychological excuse that justifies the level of women's skiing right now. It's a combination of low participation and little competitive incentive to improve but the field's wide open for women to stop limiting themselves and start skiing at a much higher level.

There's not a large market for female riders but they don't have to one-up eachother as much to earn a spot on a team.

The bottom line is that you need to have money to compete. My sister couldn't afford the astronomical gear, travel, entry fees plus the time to "train". The winnings are pathetic and don't even come close to covering expenses to be an athlete let alone make any profit so it is pointless if you're pursuing it as a career.

My dad wasn't rich, my sister had to work full time to survive and be able to ski. Being injured meant she couldn't work so she couldn't pay for rent or food.

Also, a lot of you guys sound like jerks. I bet if any of those girls in the competitive circuit were your little sister or your daughter, you'd change your shitty attitude.

No fucking shit. I would do what any parent would and lie to them about how great they are. But they're not my sister or daughter, so im going to be honest.

one word. Testosterone. I gives us more muscle, thicker bone mass, makes us quicker and more agressive, allows us to Manufacture more adrenaline, and suppresses fear.

I like seeing Pro hoes. It was cool to see mixed teams in West coast sessions. its not just the skiing it made the team dynamics more watchable and fun. Lisa Z is better than I'll ever be, hopefully women skiers can get stoked and follow her and start to progress their side of the sport.

This shit is so fucking ballsy. Seeing how high and far and FAST he goes, I can't even imagine how terrifying that must have been.

And no helmet, either.
