Do Girls Have An Easier Time Getting Sponsored?

I discredited no one. The last part of my posting was in agreement with what you are saying. I do believe our gender is capable, the female athletes just aren't there yet. As time continues, they will be. How did I say my gender fails? I just said there are more reasons as to why we haven't yet, than just "we need to ball up and do it."

Will our genders ever be 100% equal?... Likely not. Even in gymnastics, the sport people reference the most, the hardest moves in men's are still more powerful and difficult than in womens. Not by much, but they are.

If you don't believe any of my initial statements in regards to men's vs women's bodies, please by my guest and do some research.

A pretty obvious choice? Between what? freestyle skiing is an extremley small sport in comparison to other sports (all extreme sports are) first off which guys dominate. Also significantly less girls decide to huck themselves off jumps etc... than guys. And you all need to actually do some background checks on what you're saying. Title IX wasn't passed until 1988. until then there were basically NO GIRLS SPORTS in or outside of schools. They weren't funded whatsoever. So why on earth would they decide to do something like freestyle skiing even outside of school? It wasn't a normal thing for girls to do. Soccer wasn't even a normal thing to do. so no... they didn't really have the same chance to pick up a pair of skis and flip off of shit when they were younger. now that there are winter sports clubs and whatnot, more girls are getting into it.

my point with aerials is that that as there is more of an opportunity to join a sport or program when you're younger, you're have the chance to get to that level. aerials has been around as a girls and guys sport for longer than freestyle.

Of course everyone who chooses skiing does it because they like it. That doesn't mean everyone likes freestyle skiing, or that they like to compete, or that they like or even want to do the same thing guys are doing. There are actually several excuses for the skill gap but the only thing you're focusing on is that there is a gap, not that is starting to close as more girls get into it. but it seems like no matter the skill gap, you'll all bitch about it anyway... this is becoming a pretty pointless argument.

1988? In 1995 there wasn't even Freestyle skiing. When I was a kid I used to get kicked out of the park all the time because I wasn't a snowboarder.

exactly, that too. Title IX is what gave womens sports and programs equal funding as guys which is why I brought that part up. Slopestyle and half pipe was purely snowboarding until the late 1990's and the first pair of twin tips wasn't until like, 1998.

Girls were extremley blessed to have skiers like Sarah Burke to step up and finally make it possible for girls to compete and *want* to do something like freestyle skiing. Anna Segal was the first girl to win gold at X Games slopestyle when it was introduced in 2008. And guess what? That was only 5 years ago. So like I've been saying, of course there is a gap. New girls have only recently really been getting into the sport and the sport alone hasn't been around that long in the first place.

That is such bullshit, Girls only look up to girls. When I was a diver There were quite a few girls I dived with they used to do some amazing triple twisting flips And they inspired me to try to learn it. So I'm going to say this in the nicest way possible shut the fuck up quit bitching, and look up to the best skier I don't care what race or gender You are. Girls shouldn't look up to other girls if they suck at their sport.

1. in the nicest way possible... you all blow at reading what I *actually* wrote. I never said i didn't look up to guys, quite the contrary. When I'm skiing I would much rather go with my guy buddies because they inspire me and push me the most to improve. But GIRLS like Sarah were the ones who had to fight to be let into competitions and expand the sport.

2. Are you actually implying Sarah sucked? Also people are entirely allowed to look up to whomever they want to look up to, why the hell does it matter to do you who inspires someone else to be better? You should support the people who love skiing regardless if they are they best or if they are working on improving.

This exactly. Girls shouldn't be looking at the five tindy that won the xgames slopestyle, they should be looking at the dub 16, and aspire to be like that. There are girls out there that can shred, but they need to be pushed in competition to legitimize them in this industry. There is no pushing in competitions for girls.

Winter X Games 2010: Women's Ski Slopestyle: Kaya Turski a Ski video by xgames

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:8887689

Can't embed the third, but these are the three most recent winning runs in the X-games. The jumps have basically gone unchanged. This is the problem. throwing 5's shouldn't be good enough, to be taken seriously, the girls have to want a lot more than that, because as lisa zimmerman shows us, it's possible.

Lisa didn't do that dub in a competition, the jumps in X are built for men's weight. I can clear freeway in breck IF it isn't windy at all and it would be extremely difficult for me to get enough speed to pull around something greater than a 5 without knuckling. Find the size and the the distance between jumps that Lisa dubbed off of because I would be shocked if it was the same or less distance. Anything done at Nine Queens is built specifically for the girls skiing there and isn't comparable to a competition where the jumps specifications aren't even meeting somewhere in the middle between girls and guys.

I am NOT saying girls shouldn't aspire to do better at all. all you're doing is complaining about how girls "suck" at skiing and THEN you are shutting down any ideas for girls to progress without breaking themselves on jumps that were built for guys that weigh 50+ lbs more.

Oh and you're sponsored by netik? In that case I'm sure you know Alexis. She is the most passionate skier I have met of all my friends, girls and guys. She broke her neck this year, and had to give up counseling at windells this summer to recover, but she has never stopped smiling and is still competing with our team in the winter after she's better. PLEASE elaborate on why even though she's not the "best" that people shouldn't look up to her for inspiration?

excuse me, I meant it wasn't done in a competition where girls and guys were on the same jumps. Nine Queens is all specifications that the female athletes there want, so they can take their tricks to the next level on a jump that was built for them. Jumps and the amount of space between features in X and dew tour are built for the guys, which changes the potential for girls runs a lot. and yet again, i agree that girls should be pushing it past the minimum it takes to win. I don't think we should just keep the winning run where it's at but there are other obstacles you're blatantly ignoring too. sorry for the triple post.

i feel like most of these body weight/strength arguments are negated by the fact that 12-14 yr old boys are doing this stuff. are 12 yr old boys that much heavier/stronger than a 18-20 yr old girl? I very much doubt it.

rep sees attractive girl goes heres a free pair of skis now ski with me every day so we can make an edit and maybe someday a porno. park skiing is shit for girls, and embarrassing to watch just like womens snowboarding. the problem is they always seem to ski with other guys and i think that holds them back because they can be like i cant do it if a guy cant do it or if a guys learning that trick there is no way i could do it. straight up girls in park skiing are pussies (literally) its a lame excuses that hold the girls back cause they can do almost all the tricks guys can do in gymnastics and ariel skiing maybe not with as much strength but definatly as much style and proper form. still girls have no reason to progress because they get all the shit a pro guy gets with doing the tricks they do. maybe introduce best trick or big air in xgames for girls and that will push the sport because thats generally how it goes for the guys. somebody does a big trick in big air one year then the next its in a couple slope runs the next.

I'm not arguing the skill level i'm arguing the jump size. thats why kids that age aren't allowed into the big competitions and can only fore-run for them

ok this is complete bull. Why the hell does it matter to you or anyone else who looks up to who to be better skier? you're saying people shouldn't look up to others if they aren't pros which is just ridiculous. I can look up to my girl friends who shred because they're getting past all your bull shit and doing it regardless of how much you say girls suck AND i can look up to my guy friends AND i can look up to guy skiers like stept crew for style/ not competing at all AND lisa for fucking slaying. most of the things you guys are saying are hypocritical as fuck. quit saying how big of a gap there is and then shut down every girl skier out there.

Shocking that's what you took from my post. Yes I know her and if that's the case I probably skied with you multiple times as well. I'm saying you should look up to the best tricks being thrown by a skier. If you want to look up to someone else for motivation I don't care. But you should not be looking up to professional women skiers throwing nines, You should be looking up to people throwing doubles and triples and aspire to do them if you want to become a professional at your sport.

If you wax your skis you can clear the jumps on the in freeway. I've hit jumps in freeway on my five-year unwaxed 1080 Solomon foils and I've been fine.

You suck at reading.

It's OBVIOUSLY A choice, as in it's obvious that that was one choice of many... not AN OBVIOUS CHOICE.

What the fuck are you talking about title IX? Freeskiing as we know it wasn't even around then, so why did you even bring this up?

Since when does freeskiing have anything to do with schools? Sure there are schools that do it and have half assed leagues and shit, but we're talking about xgames / dew tour / film segments, not high school or college BS sports clubs.

Why wouldn't they decide to do freestyle skiing outside of school? I did. So did most everyone who loves it today? Since the sport has been around women and men have had the same options for making the choice to freeski.

I don't really have a clue what the fuck you're talking about. All the girls that I have skied with since I bought my first pair of K2 enemies back in 2001 have had the same chance to buy twin tips and hit the same jumps, rails, cliffs, etc that I was hitting. It's not like girls would walk into a store and not be allowed to buy twin tips, or not be allowed in terrain parks...

Your "point" doesn't have any basis in reason, at all.

I didn't ever say that "everyone likes freestyle skiing"

It's becoming a pretty dumb argument because you're arguing against things that were never said, points that nobody ever made, and ignoring common sense realities.

I'm trying to get better at my sport definitely, probably not professional but I agree girls should be wanting to be better than the current pros, not just as good, if they are actually trying to be pro. Looking up to someone in general though, that person doesn't have to be a pro. and someone not being a pro doesn't mean they aren't still talented or worth looking up to, guys included.

i brought in title ix to show that for girls before then, it wasn't

popular or any sort of normal to get into sports, especially extreme

sports and that the girls who are pros now were kind of the first girls

to really get into it after it was an option. since then it's become more popular. More guys have been doing

some crazy stuff since long before that, hence why guys were the initial

pioneers of freesking.

I said in and outside**** of schools. the type

of groups or clubs or whatever on anyones mountains that would get

anyone stoked on doing it. and it really hasn't been the same option

since the start. I'd think now it is, but not from the beginning. a

handful of girls got into when it was only a guys thing and after that

it opened up doors for girls to actually want to compete in it and go

pro after they were actually allowed to be in competitions.

I have

never said girls haven't been allowed in parks or

buy skis or whatever. I've just been pointing out how social norms used

to be at the start of the sport that you're ignoring. i agree that there

are the same chances to get into and get

better NOW. I'm saying at the start of it that wasn't the case. but also

that it's damn intimidating to go into a park or be into skiing as a

girl

and only have guys like you, shut it down constantly and then turn

around and complain about a skill gap.

Is it physically possible for a chick to ski at a high level? Yes. Torin Yater Wallace does it all the time. But the gap will never close. Why does it fucking matter? If a chick doesn't want to hit the same jump as me I'm not going to force her to.

Maybe what I am seeing is a cross dressing man, but I am pretty sure there is a woman at my local mountain who could show like any of those pros up, I mean I have only seen her in the smaller terrain park, but she is throwing fronts, backs, and lincolns on like a 5 foot jump. I have seen her 900 before, so maybe there are some girls out there, all I know is that she shows me up on a continual basis haha.

This has nothing to do with weight. I could easily name you 10 pros that are lighter than your average woman. You're lame excuses are what's wrong with womens skiing.

you're basically using the "im a girl its okay if i suck excuse"

im like 5 foot and 110lbs and can clear freeway fine.

i think you need to wax up

I'm not saying that at all, just saying i could throw a better trick on a slightly smaller jump. Clearing freeway usually isn't an issue, its spinning it that i come up short because of speed and weight. i'm 5/3ish and 110. i'm getting slightly longer/ heavier skis this year so hopefully it'll make a difference

ok lets face it. Its like comparing horseshit and bacon. not to be sexist or anything but what the fuck. steve stepp can out ski all women in park and thats a fact. this shouldnt even be a relevant topic. Sorry women, I love girls, but and skiing with them is fun, and some women are better than me but pro women are no match to pro men

Men and women are built differently and "wired" differently in so many ways (thankfully). I coached female DI college gymnasts for 20 years & they are absolute BOSSES! Strong, courageous, fit, extremely coordinated, mentally and physically TOUGH as nails & just incredible athletes. I guess I don't understand the hate female athletes get from guys (in any sport). Women like Alexi Micinski, Lisa Z. and others ARE killin' it (IMO), just like Gabby Douglas kills it in gymnastics. People don't say Gabby sucks because she doesn't do the same tricks some of the male gymnasts are doing. I also observe that the better the athlete, the more respect he or she seems to have for athletes of the opposite gender in their sport. Top athletes tend to respect other top athletes, regardless of gender, because they know how hard it is to compete at that level, whether you are male or female. Vive la difference! And lp, you are very patient. Keep up the attempts at enlightenment. Men have been encouraged to compete in sports since before ancient Greece. Women weren't even ALLOWED to do so until relatively recently, and they certainly weren't encouraged or rewarded until VERY recently. I believe the gap will narrow.
