I'd agree. I have no problem making them harder to get. Perfect example is Australia. They had like 7 mass shootings (more than 2 people shot) in the 10 years leading up to their gun control reform and like 1 in the 10 years since. Those numbers are not perfectly accurate since I don't remember precisely. My favorite part of their gun control is as simple as forcing anyone who purchases a gun to give a reason. Simple yet I think would be a huge deterrent for a lot of people. Once again it doesn't really stop anyone from getting one but is an extra step where some of the bad people who are legally buying firearms might have been stopped.

Even if you need a reason, everyone's just going to always claim protection... I mean, even in Breaking Bad, homie buys an illegal revolver under the guise of protection... (yes, I know, it's a show, but still)
In my perfect world, this would be the thing.
-Hunting rifles, shotguns, and non semi-automatic weapons will have about the same amount of control they have now. The gun-show loophole will be closed, however.
Semi automatic rifles and Handguns will need a license to own - similar to concealed carry. Any unlicensed firearm will be treated like if they found you with some illegal drugs. Any illegal firearm will be treated like you have a lot of illegal drugs. Expanded magazines and other shit that increases the lethal nature of a weapon will require weapons safety certifications and shit.
...Treat it like cars. Yeah, getting your basic license to drive a car is easy, but if you're driving a truck or something more serious (and dangerous) you need additional examinations, and it takes longer to get your certs. If you're going to use such weapons for protection, it should be documented.
Yeah, I get it... Red Dawn. The commies will look on the list and see who has weapons, and intern them first? That shit ain't happening. It never happened. It won't happen. Get over it. If somehow I'm hilariously wrong and all else fails, fine - storm the Bastille, right?
I understand there are plenty of guns out there that are illegal and circulating and stuff... why not transfer this war on drugs funding and bullshit to a war on illegal guns that are legitimately intended to maim and kill people? Sounds a lot more productive than going after peaceful potheads.
