mik is awesome. he is looking at skiing in an awesome way. im so sick of what skiing is like now, competitions fucking suck dick. its all about doing the biggest craziest shit you can, honestly, some olympic aerialist could learn some grabs and enter the x games and destroy everyone, and thats not stretching the truth. and that is very sad, technical stuff is cool and all, but it has already gone wayyyyy too far. there is like no creativity, i respect people like jon, and dumonts skills (but i dont respect dumont as a person at all) yeah its cool they can do stuff that that crazy, but there is no creativity in skiing right now. you look at something like snowboarding, and there is soooo much more creativity, skiing doesnt even compare. people dont give a shit if so and so can do a tripple flipping 12, people get way more psyched when they see someone jib a bench or something in a cool way. and thats where skiing needs to be headed.
like 90% of snowboarders i know hate sean white, cause he is boring and only does stuff the judges wanna see. and movies are where its at in snowboarding, not comps.
mik is just doing his own thing, just doing what he wants to do, instead of letting some 40 year old judge decide for him. and if the big people in our sport start to stop being a bunch of competitive fucking football jocks, and start skiing for fun and being creative, it could totally change our sport and make it soooo much better, instead all thats going on in their head is "win win win, be the best!"
seriously, fuck comps, they are just fucking up where skiing is headed, maybe if people started trying to be creative and do what they want instead of what the judges want, then comps could be cool, but no everyone is to scared to be creative and different and its just allowing the judges to take over and turn freestyle skiing into aerials. like i had so much respect for cosco when he did that straight air kang and 180 at the open big air last year. there are all these people doing their insane technical crap taking it all serious, and he just went out there and had fun, which is what its really all about.
