but ya that was some pretty disrespectful shit. just because one trick has less of a rotation that another trick that in no means makes it more "technical". technically, it makes it a lot less technical.

his whole attitude was that his style is the right style, he's keeping it real, he's the man. I didn't really like the interview, wasn't very impressed by the footage, and personally think he came off like a gigantic asshole. don't think he was necessarialy trying to be a dick to the dudes (keeping it real to what THEY think newschool skiing is all about) learning completely new tricks (who no doubt had a blast learning them). but he sure seemed like it

Mik D has good style on skis, it speaks for itself, no need to whore the forums everytime his name gets dropped. He hasn't done that much since Exact Science/1242, I've seen all those "hazin boys" edits like a yr ago and that new interview footy is mediocre at best, ceryainly not "the true progression of the sport", if so, groms in the PC park should own every ski movie next year.

i lost an enoumous amount of respect for john syms while reading this thread...

how is spin to win progressing our sport? a double front flip 360??? come on now you see that shit in the aerials. its plain and simple retarted looking. and double flips are just hucking your self. yes some look cool but to me they are turning our sport into the wrong direction. there are a lot of kids out there that are good enough to get a major sponser or eventually go pro, but they will never because they cant do a double rodeo or a hucked 1440.

mik d is doing what he wants to do, not following the same thing everyone else is doing. hes got his own style and own way of skiing. who cares? hes fucking good. and fun as hell to watch.

with that being said. who care how you ski. just ski...
 
yes! someone else realizes that clean is not the definition of style, i mean not that style is easy to define but, yes this kids on point.

Mick got flavour, what alot of pros lack, because skiing is so focused on competition and perfection. Mickaels an artist with his skiing, not a football player or figure skater. Get real people, its skiing, not a traditional rigid competition based sport, or atleast it shouldn't be, and that was the whole point of "freeskiing" ten years ago.

ps, i got nothing against competition, its human nature to be competitive, just dont come on here talkin shit about mickael cause he's not pushing that side of the sport, in his interview on some internet tv show no ones ever heard of if it wasnt for him being on it.
 
mik d and symms both made equally dumb foolish arguments. they both are talented skiers and i have immensely enjoyed watching them ski (symms less so) but thats where it ends as soon as they open their mouth just turn on the mute button. their are so many other skiers with id say more talent out their kye, sage, pollard, pep, andy for instance. do you hear them making talking the same bullshit? that being said this whole thing was probably started intentionally for entertainment, i dont think either of them give a shit.
 
PhaedeD9th: I total agree with ya shit, but don't speak mickaels thoughts on NS. Like sayin that mickael whould think simon is a good skier. Cuz Simon really ain't that good, just ask any professional skier. His grabs are bad, he doesn't pull of anything sick on a kicker, his rail-tech ain't nun' at all, he does tricks like fronflip to fronflip 360 (which I think is hella gay). The only thing about simon is that he can boost in the pipe like nun' else, and he's all over in the media because of the battle betwean him and tanner every year in x-games halfpipe (which he happens to loose every year lol). So mickael is probably just one of many pro-skiers which has realized that simon really ain't that good.

I know that a lot of idiots are gonna hate on this tread cuz they love Simon, but it really is the trough.... sorry

 
Yea that's right, style ain't obut holdin the grab 'til ya land on your hand. It's 'bout lookin natural and chill. It's no definition of style, but the best example is deff Deschenaux. Just take a look at his sw d-spins or rodeos... He doesn't hold the grab too long but it's maybe the coolest things ever done on skis.

First of all if Mik is gonna call out Simons front to misty 7 (practice footage) then i might point out his shitty flaily 5 with no grab in his practice footage.

Doing 1s and 5s is not technical at all, go to any park and there are 100 kids who could do what hes doing.

Second he dousnt like octos yet he wants to learn new grabs? how the fuck does that work. "I just learned nose grabs"... really? the dude that won the USFO big air just learned nose grabs... seems odd to me.

What he is doing isnt progression

Doubles are progression

Crazy new grabs are progression

Taking shit to the BC is progression

1s and 5s on medium park jumps... not progression. theres a reason why u arent the top skiier in the world anymore bud

progression doesn't have to be about bigger, crazier, ganrlier.

It can be about smoother, flowier, more sexy.

I hear a lot of people saying that Mik D kills it and is still a superstar on skis. But if you are a world class skier you should be able to stomp a 5 nosegrab without not even trying. You dont see Jon, Andreas, Sammy, Jossi or any other pro have troubles with a 5? Come on, i got friends that are like 13 years old that can stomp a 5, not that it has anything to do with it, but just so you get my point.

I also hear a lot of talk about his AMAAAZING switch 10 for like... five(!?) years ago. SERIOUSLY, it was F-I-V-E years ago!! You don't see Tanner talk about his domination in the X-Games, cause he has MOVED ON! So why live in the past and cover his back for something he did ages ago. Yeah yeah he was really good back then, but that was back then and there is so many sick skiers out there today that deserves the publicity and the props more than this guy does at the moment.
 
thats precisely what i was saying. find me a pro out there who cant allready do super smooth 1s and 5s. oh man *ghasp* they might have even learned nose grabs! the next step is taking that smoothness and style on those 1s and 5s and taking them to 9s 10s 12s doubles etc. or taking them into the BC.

Hells no son. When I say smooth and flow and sexy i don't just mean landing solid, I mean being SEXY.

Mickael is way sexier than a double flip.
 
maybe the others can do nose grabs, but that doesnt change the fact that they arent as sick as Mickaels.

So while they have decided to go learn some double flips, mickael is doing the sickest nose 5s around and Im loving it.

 
ok so its a sicker nose grab... i still dont think that necissarily means progression. somoene else might have a sicker blunt or critical or any other grab. for that matter what makes his nose grab sicker. its an opinion thing, u might like his i might like Sammys.
 
I agree.  Had the same shots been of Simon and Tanner or someone like that, guys here would have gone off on them for 10 pages about how ugly some of those tricks were, and yet people here are just so quick to drop to their knees for Mik D.  On top of that, every trick he did in that vid is something 200+ people can do with the same or more style, but no one mentions that because he's Mik D.  This place is funny.

I'll give credit to him in making a comeback because I think he's got some serious talent that has been wasted in the past few years, and I'm not going to go off on him, because all the shots look like they're from one day and you're only going to get so much in a single day--something few people here recognize in these video blogs.  

 
So, I just read the rest of the thread, and it looks like ^ I didn't add a whole lot new.  All I know is that there might just be 500 kids who can throw 1s and 5s as steezy, with as much flow as Mik D NOW, but most of you can't even recognize or conceive that reality because you're so in love with Mik.  As far as progression?  Let's see...A 5 that 500 people can do or an additional 3 or 5, going huge with just as much style that just 5-30 people can do (I'm fully aware a HELL of a lot of people can throw sw 10s and 12s, but I'm putting a cap on the numbers because only so many do it with the same style they can do a 5 or 7).

Of course, those lined up to suck Mik D with just say, "Dude, get a clue.  No one can do a 5 like Mik."  That's because you're blind.  He's good, but he's a little in the past and has some catching up to do.

really? what makes his 5s any sicker than Jon's flat 5s, or Olenicks misty 5s. or anyones for that matter. i can think of a ton of ppl with sick 5s... its a 5
 
When I watch all those other people do 5s its like Ok I guess that was pretty smootha nd cool.

but sometimes, like with some of Mickaels shit, its like OMGGGGGGGGGGGG SOOOOOOOOO SIIIIIIIICKKKKKKKK like oooooh mannnn... you can just feeeeeeeeeeeeeel the steeze.

i for one think olenicks misty 5s are the most disgusting thing put down on snow, and the same year he was wearing triads with 50 rags hanging out of his pocket doing heinous mistys mick put down a 5 blunt at wsi thats arguably the best one ever done.

here's my argument.

steeze is something you feel. it's about flowing your tricks. Its about getting that FEELING of like just so much smoothness and like just like UGH.

so its like... not something that I can really describe. If you dont feel it then you don't feel it.
 
if you hold the grab the majority of the spin i would say that counts as steeze

for example if you throw a 7 and hold the grab for 540 degrees of that spin then that would

be pretty steezy. thats the problem with theses comps is if you throw a switch 10 and hold the grab for only 540 degrees its going to beat a standard 9 where the grab was held for 720 degrees of that spin and i would argue that they are comparable in difficulty
 
you fail. you fail to understand steeze. you dont get the concept of steeze. you do not see the most steeziest skier of all time as being the steeziest. he might not throw huge tricks but everything he does has more steeze than you and your favorite skier could ever imagine having.
 
i never said i had more steeze than him. i dont have more steeze than any pro skier. thats why they are pro and im on here. but by your argument steeze is whatever u think is steezy.. no. steeze can be whatever u want.
