Dear Matt Luczkow

I was going through and watching the super unknown edits. Sure the kids destroy park features and afterboner the hell out of every landing. I was getting bored and was ready to eat a sandwich when I clicked out your edit. Though heavy on the slow motion, thank you so much for putting an edit together with some solid skiing. My personal opinion is that you have the most original edit, and I wish I could slay BC like that. I was hooting and hollering the whole time. Mad props dude, and put some more edits together.

Matt's edit is sick. I was super stoked when I saw that edit earlier this afternoon.

Definitly my favorite superunknown edit. I was pretty bored with all the other park edits, you have to have some sick BC IMO. Although not the most technical trickster, it is still my fav.

wtf...bc booters, pillow lines, urban, park rails, triple stagers, double backflips...and a quarterpipe? best edit by far. he should win just on the fact that he made a quarterpipe hit.

and he actually skis.
my guess? he won't win superunknown, but we will see him doing some bc stuff with them next year.

As I watched all the super unknown edits I kept hoping to see one with some powder/big mtn and I was pretty bored with the edits till this one. Some of those cliffs are huuuuge. He should definately win. Im getting sick of the thug park edits where everyone is doing the exact same thing.

That was such a fresh change - i'd definitely be stoked to watch that very same edit as a movie seg.

Matt you are bodagan as shit. I hope to see ya in some vids in the future
what was the first song in this edit?

Great edit, very solid skiing, really well put together. Odds of him winning = 0.0000%.

I am going to start by saying that this is my favortie edit of the contest. Buuuuuuuuut.....Berman's program starts with urban and park shoots, and then you work

your way to the BC. It is exactly what Rainville, Stefen, Clarke,

Downey, Hornbeck, Steele, T Redd, Wallisch (currently shooting BC

booters for next years movie) and many more have ALL done. They do not

bring in a Superunknown to shoot int he BC because they have a long

list of athletes that have worked their way up to that position through

years of getting broke off on urbans and dialing in switch 9s in the

parks first. The Superunknown shoots urban with Level 1 because they

can start to get shots early in the season and the guys at Level 1 can

see how things are coming together before they start to shoot in the

Backcountry sometime in mid-late January. If they are skiing well and

their park game is on lock, then and only then, do they get a 1 shot

chance in the BC with 2-3 other skiers on 1 trip. If they blow up

landings or rag doll all over the place, they get pushed back to the

next year to see if they have gotten better. Some guys never get to be

on the BC crew with Level 1. But one thing is for certain, unless his

edit inluded all kinds of switch 9s or rodeo 7s in the BC off

legitimate jumps, it won't win.

They feel as though kids who are sick in the park might be able to

learn how to ski BC. Kids that are sick in the BC rarely learn how to

slay urban rails. His rail game does not have the basis for what is needed to gets shots when you are on a trip with Ahmet, Wallisch, Wesson, etc. And, if Matt were to win, who gets bumped off the next BC

shoot? Rainville??? Bibby??? Clarke??? The answer is none of them

because they worked their way up to it. His rail game is not good

enough, and his BC stuff is well below that of the other Level 1 guys

that already shoot pow. Matt is unfortunately stuck in a shitty position where he is a super sick skier but not good enough in the areas that Level 1 looks for imo.

That being said, great work on the video because it was a totally

refreshing selection with great skiing and editing. Nice music choice

and camera work!

definitely my favorite edit. he is an extremely well rounded skier that i would like to model my skiing around, as i like to do everything. unfortunately i dont know if his edit will win, but i sure as hell would love to see it win.
and i was 100% totally incredibly surpised with chris laker's edit, that shit was rediculous. a 15 year old from IA doing that shit? wow.
but matt luczkow...thats a crazy last night, is pretty fuckin sick

I disagree. If someone is good enough in everything they really should bring him in. It'll be a fresh change of pace for level 1 and it could easily be one of the sickest seggys in next years movie if they get enough shots.

Hahaha I came on to say pretty much this, wherever this dude is skiing, I am jealous. Probably the most enjoyable edit up there, though he should have just cut out the park stuff altogether because it's obviously not up to the level of a lot of the other entries. Still it's literally the only vid on the page that has actual skiing in it and thank god for the ratatat, I couldn't deal with anymore bad rap mixed in with the occasional crystal castles track.

That was sickkk. Kid kills it everywhere. Especially because it's more difficult to film BC, rather than park...IMO.

yeah that was sick.

just change a few of the shots and

maybe just a bit better lighting on some of the shots

but hands down most entertaining for me,

powder

pillows

cliff lines

and all with style.

SLAYING IT

you seem to be referring to "BC shots" with the single mind-set of BC booters. which isn't really skiing. its going down a stomped out in run, off a jump, and then fandangleing your way down a pow landing until you run out of speed.

you also seem to carry the bias that rails-to-bc booters is a natural progression. so Level 1 would rather have a rail slayer who has never seen pow, rather than someone who rips BC lines and is comfortable-although-not-the-best-ever on rails?

this here missssstah luczkow was actually skiing. ever aspect of skiing. did you miss how he pillow tapped on a rock - sucked up for the double stager - then was still able to turn 45 degress to match the tranny? did you miss how comfortable he looked in the park? or the sunset booter session? the spinny flippy things off the roof? or the triple stager where he appeared like david blaine out of the powder blast? the big spins off the cliffs at the end?

sure Level 1 has dudes who rip in the park; but can they ski a nasty big mountain line? or can they just jib the shit out of anything be it in pow, park, or urban.....and never really got to develop the fullskillset of skiing?
moz-screenshot.jpg
just people that excel at one or two elements and can barely survive in the park or a nasty line. correct me if im wrong, but it appears that you are laying it out as a jib-based company and someone who can make turns is not needed?

i'd challenge Level 1 to produce a more enjoyable one-skier 6 minute segment that showcases all elements of what we take skiing to be. or admit that it appears Berman's program cannot fathom the all-around skillset of Matt Luczkow.

well that was amazing. his style reminds me a lot of tanner rainville, but looks even more comftrable in the park. those spinny house things reminded me of sammy carlson, and all around, that was sick. if i saw that segment in a movie, i would be fucking stoked

wow! never heard of this kid but that was phenomenal. he could be the next mark abma- very similar skill set i'd say. whether he wins doesn't really matter coz he'll make it big one way or another for sure. i guess he's more in the theory 3 mould than level one, but i'd love to see him in berman's movie for sure, that was sick.

haven't watched any of the others, but then i'm not really big into the afterbang extravaganza that they sound like. matt ftw!

I think this kid could ski as well with any of the Level 1 athletes in the BC. Wiley Miller being and exception. Give him the opportunity to film under perfect conditions and I bet he would produce some quality stuff.

the 1st song is 'lights and music' by cut copy

that edit was really sick, personally liked your style in the bc more than the park, but it was an awesome edit all around. those sunset shots were nasty. scooter hit me up next time you're shooting sunset shots jeeeeze !!!!

Yeah that was sick, had everything. Would be great to see him win.

Just what I was thinking, it would amke a great segment in a movie.

there is so much more involved with shooting all that BC shit, its a lot harder to get a sick shot in backco when u only get 1 chance to ski a line and make it look dope.... and all the other kids had all day to hit the jump and stomp their shit... Luczkow is a straight g, he can fuckin kill any aspect of our sport which is hard to come across.

I agree, actually i probably couldn't of said that better myself..That it gets me really stoked for some reason and his type of skiing fits perfectly what rainville, vanular, bibby, etc.. were doing in the whistler seg in turbo...This guy should win it.
