Great edit, very solid skiing, really well put together. Odds of him winning = 0.0000%.
I am going to start by saying that this is my favortie edit of the contest. Buuuuuuuuut.....Berman's program starts with urban and park shoots, and then you work
your way to the BC. It is exactly what Rainville, Stefen, Clarke,
Downey, Hornbeck, Steele, T Redd, Wallisch (currently shooting BC
booters for next years movie) and many more have ALL done. They do not
bring in a Superunknown to shoot int he BC because they have a long
list of athletes that have worked their way up to that position through
years of getting broke off on urbans and dialing in switch 9s in the
parks first. The Superunknown shoots urban with Level 1 because they
can start to get shots early in the season and the guys at Level 1 can
see how things are coming together before they start to shoot in the
Backcountry sometime in mid-late January. If they are skiing well and
their park game is on lock, then and only then, do they get a 1 shot
chance in the BC with 2-3 other skiers on 1 trip. If they blow up
landings or rag doll all over the place, they get pushed back to the
next year to see if they have gotten better. Some guys never get to be
on the BC crew with Level 1. But one thing is for certain, unless his
edit inluded all kinds of switch 9s or rodeo 7s in the BC off
legitimate jumps, it won't win.
They feel as though kids who are sick in the park might be able to
learn how to ski BC. Kids that are sick in the BC rarely learn how to
slay urban rails. His rail game does not have the basis for what is needed to gets shots when you are on a trip with Ahmet, Wallisch, Wesson, etc. And, if Matt were to win, who gets bumped off the next BC
shoot? Rainville??? Bibby??? Clarke??? The answer is none of them
because they worked their way up to it. His rail game is not good
enough, and his BC stuff is well below that of the other Level 1 guys
that already shoot pow. Matt is unfortunately stuck in a shitty position where he is a super sick skier but not good enough in the areas that Level 1 looks for imo.
That being said, great work on the video because it was a totally
refreshing selection with great skiing and editing. Nice music choice
and camera work!
